5 Testing & Analysis Outdoor Natural offshore marine exposure sites for material degradation testing Originally designed for testing and demonstrating prototype devices for harnessing ocean energy prior to their full-scale commercial development, it turned to be an ideal location for offshore material degradation exposure tests as well. Located near the village of Armintza- Lemoiz (Bizkaia, Spain), covers a total surface area of 5.3 km 2. The nearest point to land is 1,700 m away. Fully equipped with modern subsea infrastructure for onshore grid connection and a comprehensive remote monitoring and control system for the systematic compilation and analysis of data on the systems being tested at sea. Tecnalia placed two degradation testing exposure sites at BIMEP: Buoy HARSH LAB BiMEP (Biscay Marine Energy Platform) 5

Easy to manipulate racks with place for up to 160 standardized coupons (80 in splash and 80 in immersion zone) Coupons and components assays in splash zone Coupons and components assays in immersion zone 6

Immersion zone in floating jetty (no tidal). Easy access and monitoring of environmental parameters. Estuarine port conditions with a mix of sea water (Cantabrian sea) and fresh water (Oiartzun river). Average environmental conditions (Jul 15-Jul 15) Salinity: 27.4 usp Water temperature: 16.8 ºC Dissolved oxygen: 69.0 % sat ph: 8.0 Transparency: 1.1m 8

Atmospheric corrosivity category established as C2 (according to ISO 9223:2012). Test bench for services to industry and own developments and technologies.
