Welcome to We are an individual and vibrant performing arts college on the London/Essex border. CPA is renowned for producing a natural, multi-skilled performer who is able to work in all areas of the performing arts industry. To achieve this we have recruited a strong team of committed tutors and practitioners and in turn demand dedication from each student. This combined with the supportive and professionally disciplined environment is proving, to be the key to the college s success. Past students have gained employment in West End shows, on UK tours, cruise ships, in TV and film, the commercial sector and the music industry. We hope that you enjoy reading our prospectus. For further information please feel free to visit our website at We look forward to hearing from you soon.
The Course CPA Studios delivers a three year Professional Musical Theatre Diploma Course. The curriculum is focused on equipping all students with the necessary tools to enable them to meet the current and future needs and trends of the ever evolving entertainment industry. The faculty is of the highest calibre and tutors are recruited from the widest spectrum of the profession. All have in-depth training, experience, and knowledge as specialist tutors, performers, choreographers, and directors. There is a tight infrastructure of resident tutors that provides consistency and an ongoing process which is complemented and enhanced by visiting tutors who run master classes on current West End and TV performance projects. All students work daily from Monday to Friday with specialist workshops and rehearsals on some evenings and weekends. To ensure that each student receives thorough and suitable training for their personal needs the Course Leader prepares unique timetables for each and every student on the course. All students are expected to attend every timetabled class, with separate ballet, jazz and singing classes for male students. All students have a personal fitness instructor, private singing tutor and a nutrition advisor. In addition to the normal timetable it is also possible to take external examinations with the ISTD along with associated teaching qualifications. Stephen Mear Patron West End/Broadway Director/Choreographer CPA is an outstanding college and I am honoured to not only have an award given every year in my name but to also be their patron. Rochelle Humes Patron The Saturdays CPA have always been there for me through my training and performing career. I am very proud to be their Patron.

Additional special skill classes are also held, such as Stage Combat, Puppeteering and Character Voices.
What happens in Year One? During the first year all departments focus on the core technique of each subject so that the students can learn to develop strength, control, and placement in each discipline. Core technique is essential for sustaining a long and healthy career in the physically demanding world of the theatre. The practical training is complemented by weekly contextual studies classes where students learn about the history of musical theatre and gain an understanding of the people who have played a part in its development. Students will also have lectures in anatomy, physiology and nutrition. Students classes are streamed depending on their current ability for each subject. Regular assessments continue throughout the year to ensure that each student is making the appropriate progress, and to highlight areas where a student may need more assistance. Personal feedback will be given to each student on a constructive one to one basis. During the third term of the first year all students will be involved in the CPA Studios End of Year Show which is performed in a London theatre. All students, regardless of year group, have the opportunity to audition for pieces created by visiting and resident choreographers and directors. This process provides the opportunity for students from all year groups to mix and replicate the feel of a professional company. 1st Year Performance Opportunities include: Internal Performance Projects Presentation Evenings End of Year Show Year One The amazing tutors help you push boundaries that you didn't even know you were capable of. 9 What happens in Year Two? During year two all subjects are studied at a more in-depth level curriculum. The second year is also seen as an opportunity to consolidate the techniques learnt in year one. Second year students will have more access to external guest tutors and will be involved in more workshops and master classes tin order to begin preparing them for their graduate year. Contextual Studies continue to support vocational classes and will include a music study module, research projects on composers and lyricists, and continued development and research about past and present industry practitioners. Regular assessments will again take place throughout the year and feedback will be given on a one to one basis with individual subject tutors. Assessments will be followed by a meeting with the Course Leader. As an addition to their year one performance opportunities, second year students will rehearse and perform a professionally directed musical play which will then be developed into a Theatre In Education project and taken into the community. 2nd Year Performance Opportunities include: Internal Performance Projects Presentation Evenings Professionally Directed Musical Play End of Year Show Year Two I started my training at CPA and I would like to thank them for being there at the beginning of my journey JAY in THE INBETWEENERS James Buckley
What happens in the Final Year? The third year is designed to bring the personal talents and strengths of each individual student to a professional level which will enable them to gain employment upon graduation. All students will continue to attend regular timetabled technique classes alongside master classes given by leading figures from the world of theatre, film, and television. These classes are designed to give graduating students a working insight into how to present themselves at auditions, and the skill, discipline, and maturity needed to work as a professional. As well as the rigorous practical lessons, final year students will also attend lectures on theatre contracts, personal tax and insurance, how to approach agents and casting directors, presenting a CV, networking, sourcing work, and other important issues associated with being self-employed in the performing arts industry. The Musical Theatre Professional Diploma is awarded at the end of the year to all students who successfully complete all modules on the three year course. 3rd Year Performance Opportunities: Internal Project presentations Assessment work presentations Professionally Directed Play Professionally Directed Musical Graduate Showcase Graduating Year The CPA tutors taught me so much ENSEMBLE/1ST COVER ELPHABA WICKED WEST END Natalie McQueen Stephen Mear Award Winner
Agency/Management During their 3 years with us, all students are represented by CPA Agency. The aim of the CPA Agency is to enable students to gain valuable experience of working in the performing arts industry by securing short term professional contracts which will complement their training. In the final term of their graduating year, students are then represented by CPA Management. CPA Management will provide the vital support required to a graduating student. Prior to graduation, casting directors, producers, directors and other industry professionals are invited in to personally meet with the students and hold audition workshops. This personal introduction to key industry professionals enables the students to gain invaluable knowledge and advice as well as the opportunity to be considered for professional experience in the industry. Students in their graduating year will be considered for longer term contracts and CPA Management maintain strong links with casting directors to ensure graduating students have every opportunity of auditioning for suitable roles. CPA Management has guided many of our students from graduation to the West End stage. 12 Funding The Course CPA Studios is a privately funded college and annual fees cover tuition only. Fees will not cover associated costs which include uniform; exams; travel; and theatre trips. FINANCIALLY ASSISTED PLACES (FAP) Four key areas are taken into account when awarding a FAP: Talent Whether accommodation is required in the local area Families who still have dependants in full time education Household income (applicants will be required to complete a means test questionnaire and may be required to attend a short interview to discuss funding related questions) These awards can be partial or full awards. SCHOLARSHIPS Part Scholarships are considered for the most talented students and will be means tested LOANS There are various funding options available to students aged 18+. Professional and Career Development Loans are commercial bank loans that can be used to help pay for work related learning. You can borrow between 300 and 10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year s relevant unpaid practical work). The Government will pay the interest on the loan while you are training and for one month afterwards. You will then need to start repaying the loan as you would any other commercial loans product. The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses. You can also use the loan to supplement other forms of support such as grants or bursaries. As the Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, you should make sure you have investigated all the funding options that may be open to you to ensure you make an informed decision about whether the loan is right for you. Please visit for further information. OTHER FUNDING OPTIONS It is possible to obtain private funding through local companies, private individuals, fundraising and sheer hard work.
