We believe Humber College can be a valuable partner and resource for the City of Toronto in the realization of the Music Strategy. - to help operationalize and sustain some of the goals outlined in the six areas of the Strategy - to offer ongoing support as a partner in the development of the music industry as part of building capacity for Toronto s creative economy

6 Bachelor of Music degree Integrates classes in Music Business, Marketing, Technology and Production with Performance and Composition classes While the performance program is strongly rooted in jazz training as a means to learning their instruments, in years 3 and 4, students pursue any style of music they want for their senior concerts and recording projects (rock, pop, folk, R&B, Hip-Hop, electronic, country, jazz, etc.) 50 ensembles spanning jazz, choral, latin, fusion, R&B, pop, rock, rhythm, world drumming, world jazz Degree students accrue 450 hours of industry experience during their first three years Culminating recording project combines all skills musicianship, business, marketing and production

9 CENTRE FOR INNOVATION IN CREATIVE ENTERPRISE a strategic partnership between The School of Creative & Performing Arts, The Business School, The School of Media Studies & IT, The Centre for Entrepreneurship, and supported by the Office of Research & Innovation a cluster of innovative activities, programs, research, and services in which creative thinking and business expertise combine to facilitate economic growth, development, and leadership to solve problems and build capacity in the Creative Industry Economy enhancing industry partnerships and networks while supporting the direction and development of our national level programs in the creative industries the future renewal of our performing arts facilities presents an opportunity to create interdisciplinary spaces that will bring together research and industry partners with programs and students to focus on creative problem solving, complexity and entrepreneurship in the new economy
10 The School of Creative & Performing Arts Partnering with the City of Toronto on the Music Strategy Support an environment friendly to music creators Humber could partner with TMAC to create professional education programs that the industry needs; these could be anything from full time post-secondary programs, to Continuing Education courses for working professionals, to one-off workshops or info sessions Encourage the business of music in Toronto Through the Centre of Innovation, Humber could support the research and data collection needed for the creation of new Bylaws and Regulations, Business Networking, Business Education and Seminars, or the creation of a Music Hub, Humber resources in Music Business, Arts Administration & Cultural Management, Research, and Media Studies could help realize these goals
11 The School of Creative & Performing Arts Partnering with the City of Toronto on the Music Strategy Support music education Humber Music currently visits roughly 10,000 TDSB students each year through our Jazz in the Schools program. We would like to expand this and play a role in the deeper development of young artists in many styles. We have a very successful Community Music program that serves hundreds of kids ages 3-17 with high level music training while providing a link to youth in the city Promote Toronto s music scene locally & internationally Humber serves as a strong ambassador for Toronto; with annual success on the national stage, and a growing number of internationally active alumni and faculty, we are well positioned to serve the City of Toronto in the larger community
12 The School of Creative & Performing Arts Partnering with the City of Toronto on the Music Strategy Alliances with other music cities Humber is active in many of the Music City Alliance partner locations through student, alumni, and faculty participation in events, conferences, festivals, and other industry initiatives around the world; they could simultaneously travel as Music City ambassadors Research & Monitoring The Humber Office of Research and Innovation, together with graduate students in our Arts Administration & Cultural Management program, could partner with TMAC or others to research data sets on capacity, impact, diversity, or any other measurable to serve the Strategy
