1 Transportation Safety Director Red Deer College Certificate Program Program Overview: The Transportation Safety Director Program provides the basics of safety and health for the transportation industry. This program focuses on the information and skills you need to become a designated health and safety representative the safety director for a company in the transportation industry. This course should be looked at as the base course the starting point. Experience in the transportation field and further specific training will help you in your chosen career path. Every effort has been made to make the information as current and as practical as possible. As you work through the modules, you will be able to apply what you are learning in your day-today operations. The program has three main components: 23 On-line Independent Study Modules 12 Online activities/assignments Two Cumulative Tests All of these components must be completed in order to complete the course and obtain certification. 2 Course Delivery: All modules, assignments, and exams are on-line. You will also be able to particiapate in discussion boards with other students in the class on-line. Therefore, access to the internet is required in order to complete this program. Textbook: All course materials are on-line Course Descriptions: There are 23 modules that have been designed for independent study. Each module contains a Comprehension Check so that you can make sure that you have understood the material. As much as possible, each module is self-contained. At times there are other required resources (such as the National Safety Code) as well as recommended resources that can provide further information. 3 s There are twelve assignments in all. Some of these assignments take only a short time to complete; others will take longer. Information needed to successfully complete these assignments is online. All assignments must be completed to obtain certification. These assignments are associated with one or more modules and should be done upon completion of the designated modules. Throughout the course, you will have technical support to help you access the online information and activities. You should call your instructional support person to discuss these assignments if you have any questions concerning format, length, sources, etc. Some of the assignments require you to visit a work site (either your own or another company s). Your instructional support person can advise you concerning suitable companies that you may be able to visit in order to complete the assignment. The assignments will be marked and returned to you. An unsatisfactory assignment will be returned with suggestions for improving it. You will then have an opportunity to discuss the assignment with your instructional support person and redo it. All the assignments must be completed satisfactorily in order to obtain certification. EXAMS There are two exams that must be successfully completed for this course. All of the modules, assignments and activities that related to each exam must be successfully completed prior to writing the exams. The exams are to be completed online and supervised by your proctor. Each exam will be scheduled once an approved proctor is secured. More information is available in the introductory module online. TSD Exam 1 This exam covers Modules 1 to 11. There are 27 multiple choice questions and two questions that can be answered in point form. You will have 1 hour to complete this exam. TSD Exam 2 This Exam covers Modules 12 to 23. There are 30 multiple choice questions and one question that can be answered in point form. You will have 1 hour to complete this exam. These are comprehensive tests based on the content of the modules and the assignments. A passing mark is 75%. Transportation Safety Director Page 3 of 5

Prior Learning/Approved Equivalencies: There will be no accepted prior learning or approved equivalencies at this time. Attendance Requirements: You have six months to complete the entire course on a part-time base. It is the responsibility of the participant to inform the Program Coordinator if, for any reason, they cannot complete all required components of the course. 5 Grading: You must achieve an average grade of 75% on all online modules and have a minimum of a 75% pass mark on the two comprehensive exams in order to receive your Red Deer College Certificate. Transcripts: As per the Red Deer College grading policy, percentage grades will be converted to the grade of S (satisfactory) or U (unsatisfactory) for non-credit career development programs. Certificate: Once you have successfully completed the required courses materials you can receive your certificate by completing the parchment application form which is available online or by contacting our Continuing Education Department. Registration Information: The total cost for the program is $ which includes online access to all course materials, support facilitator, exams, and certificate. You may register for each course in one of the following ways: On-line at click on continuing education In person at the Registrar's Office: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Thursday, 8:30 am to 6:00 pm By telephone We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Cheques (sorry, no post-dated cheques), Cash **Course fees are due at the time of registration. Refund policy: Please note that no refunds are issued for this program. This program is offered in conjunction with the Transportation Training & Development Association (TT&DA).
