1 Newsletter No.5 23 rd October Dear Parents, As always Book Week was full of fun and great stories! Image Musical Theatre presented the Snow Queen by Hans Christian Anderson. The children really enjoyed Bonfire Stories and songs told by the teachers. Everyone enjoyed dressing up as Hans Christian Anderson characters.

2 Year 2 studied Princess and the Pea by Hans Christian Anderson. When they completed their books some children read them to year 1 and year R. They all got house points for their super writing and their presentation. Accelerated Reader for Years 4, 5 and 6 - As promised at the AR meeting with parents held earlier this month, we have now looked at the average scores that the children get when completing the follow up comprehension quiz for each book that they have read. Children who 1) have worked hard and are 2) demonstrating a good understanding of the book are getting generally 80% or more of the questions right in the quiz. So, we have therefore decided any child that has achieved 4 or more 80%, when taking the quiz, has earnt the Star Reader reward for this term, which is a Magic Show. This will be held on Thursday 6 th November Star Reader for Years 1, 2 and 3 All children who have worked hard and completed their Star Reader Award will be sent a card to announce the date and time of the Magic Show and invite them along shortly. Rotary Shoe Box Appeal. If you did not use your shoe box we would love the empty boxes back to send to another organisation. The boxes do cost the charity money to buy and they want to ensure every penny gets used wisely. Thank you. We are still hoping the Pro- Kick footballs will arrive before half term. Everyone has their fingers crossed. Well done everyone we raised Of this 50% goes to the Pro Kick Charity and the other 50% goes to AHA.

3 Universal Free School Dinner At present we have 73% take up of the Universal Free School Meal Offer. We d like this to be higher still so that the government do not claw back funds that we have put into the budget. If you want your child to try school dinners but are unsure you may book to join them on the following dates; EYFS Wednesday 5 th November Yr 1 Thursday 6 th November Yr 2 Monday 10 th November Year 4 had an adventurous time at Grafham Water last week. I love these before and after photos which show the children helping string the canoes together - looking unsure. Then we see the joy on their faces after facing their fears when they returned. Brilliant! Sometimes you really do have to be very determined to succeed and that just what these children are showing. Real determination to complete a given task. Fantastic, well done everyone.
