1 Cleaning out the Pump Basket 1. Turn off pump. 2. Visually inspect the basket for debris. 3. Rotate the valve in front of the pump so that the off position is closest to the pump. (You will need to loosen the screw on top of the valve and lift up on the handle in order to rotate it and additional 90 degrees.) 4. Move the multi-port handle on the filter to the closed position. 5. Remove, clean, and replace the pump basket. (Gently tap it against something or rinse it with a hose.) 6. Reposition both valves back to their running position. 7. Turn pump back on. Filling the Chlorinator 1. Turn off the pump. 2. Open chlorinator lid by unscrewing it. 3. Fill chlorinator to within a ½ from the top. (Remove tabs from plastic) 4. With chlorinator lid still removed, turn the pump on and allow the water inside the chlorinator to fill close to the top. Then quickly screw the chlorinator lid back on OR turn the chlorinator valve off. 5. Replace the chlorinator lid. 6. Remember to turn valve control back to original setting. Setting the Chlorinator Valve Control 1. If your pool has an automatic cover you should start between 1.25 and 2. If you do not have an automatic cover you will start between 2.5 and From here you will need to adjust the chlorinator up and down. 3. Test your chlorine level: - If continually low. Turn valve control up.25 of a notch. - If continually high. Turn valve control down.5 of a notch. *IMPORTANT: If the chlorine level stays above 5ppm for more than a week, you will need to turn off the chlorinator and remove the chlorine tablets. Excessively high chlorine levels will cause damage to the pool, pool equipment, and swimmers.

2 Heaters Gas Heater: Make sure that the gas to the heater is on. Pool pump must be running for the heater to run. Press the mode button twice to move from the standby position into the pool position. Set thermostat to your desired temperature and you will hear the igniter and then a few seconds later the burner tray will fire. Your pool is heating. Common Problems: If the filter or pump basket are dirty then the heater will not run. First backwash the filter, then clean out the pump basket. Now try running the heater again. If this does not work call Tredway Pools Plus for service. Heat Pumps: Press the button that says pool then adjust the temperature to your desired setting. Heater may take five minutes to start. It is normal for the heater to appear to be leaking as it produces moisture while it is heating. The higher the humidity the more condensation will appear. Common Problems: if the filter or pump basket are dirty then the heater will not run. First backwash the filter, then clean out the pump basket. Now try running the heater again. If this does not work call Tredway Pools Plus for service. If the outside air temperature is below 45 degrees then the heat pump compressor will not run and the heater will go into a hold pattern. Where the temperature is normally displayed the letters LP will appear. When the heater goes into this protective mode, you will need to wait until the outside temperature goes above 45 degrees and the heater will automatically reset. You can manually reset the heater by turning the heat pump electrical breaker off for 5 minutes then turn the breaker and heater back on.

3 Vacuuming the Pool 1. Lay out the vacuum hose, pole, and vac plate. Attach the swivel end of the vacuum hose to the vac head. 2. Extend the vac pole, place the vac head and pole into the pool. Push the vac hose into the pool making sure to hold onto the loose end. 3. Walk over to the closest return (where the water is rushing into the pool) with the end of the vac hose. Then hold the end of the vac hose over the return until the hose is full of water. (The vac will stop bubbling) 4. Then cup your hand over the end of the vac hose so as not to lose the water out of the hose and walk over to the skimmer. 5. Place the end of the vac hose under the water and press the vac plate onto the vac hose. Important: You must attach the vac plate to the hose BEFORE to putting it into the skimmer. 6. Then in one motion, flip the hose and vac into the skimmer. Now you are vacuuming! 7. Rotate the valve in front of the pump so that the off on the valve handle is pointing to the main drain side so you are sucking entirely through the skimmer line. If you have two skimmers you will need to turn the 2 nd skimmer off also. Some pools have too much suction with the main drain off and it makes it difficult to move the vac head about the pool. If this is the case then skip this step.

4 Backwashing your Pool Filter When to backwash? You will need to backwash weekly or if the pressure increases. You will backwash when the filter pressure raises 4 to 5 pounds higher than its normal pressure or at least once a week, whichever comes first. Normal pressure is determined after a good backwash. 1. Roll out and extend the backwash hose. Make sure the hose and water are flowing away from the pool. 2. Turn off pump. 3. Rotate the multi-port handle 180 degrees to the backwash position. 4. Turn the pump back on. Allow the water to run for 1 to 3 minutes or until the water in the sight glass runs clear to mostly clear. 5. Turn the pump off. 6. Rotate the multi-port handle to rinse position. 7. Turn the pump on. Run in rinse position for seconds. 8. Turn the pump off. 9. Rotate the multi-port back to the filter position. 10. Turn the pump on. 11. Roll up the backwash hose. Other multi-port positions: 1. Closed: this will not allow water to move through the filter. You might use this position when you open the pump basket to clean it out. 2. Waste: this is a way to quickly remove water from your pool. Make sure the backwash hose is rolled out and flowing away from the pool. 3. Recirc: this position is a service position. Chemically clean filter mid-summer and closing. * When backwashing or wasting water out of the pool you are draining the pool. Do not walk away from the pump when doing this procedure.

5 To Lower Water Level Why would I need to? The pool water level is too high from excessive rain Over filling the pool Winterizing the pool 1. Turn pump off. 2. Roll out backwash hose. Making sure the water and hose are flowing away from the pool. 3. For Winterization only (if you have an automatic cover, skip this step you will not lower the level prior to closing). Rotate the valve in front of the pump so that the off position is pointing toward the skimmer. This will allow you to lower the water level below the skimmer opening. 4. Rotate the multi-port handle to waste position. 5. Turn the pump on and lower water to the appropriate level. Remember you are draining the pool. 6. Turn the pump off. 7. Rotate the multi-port handle back to the filter position and turn pump back on. If you are preparing to have your pool winterized you can operate the pool from the main drain until the pool is closed.
