3 MARO was established as a family company at Our aims were producing seeds of forage crops such as alfalfa, sainfoin and vetch; developing new varieties and supplying certified seeds of these crops in and out of the Turkey based on farmer s demands. With the participation of the 2nd generation, in addition to forage plant, MARO started operating in turf grass seeds segment at Since then, the company has been supplying high quality turf grass seeds of the varieties and mixtures, which are worldwide known and admired. All of our turf grass seeds have EU standards and ISTA certificate. Through the demands from the farmers, the company was also focused on research, breeding, producing, processing and marketing of field crops such as wheat and corn from the beginning of 2000 s. Today, MARO is involved across the whole range of agricultural and agroprocessing business including seeds, agricultural supplies, cereal harvesting, animal feeding and flour milling. The company aims to encourage on local producer s business based on sustainable regional development values. Our company is currently dealing with plant breeding; production, processing and marketing of seeds and grain; and also milling and marketing of wheat flour for local and foreign markets. To complete the organization for all agricultural activities MARO has daughter companies such as Bmn Agriculture Ltd, foreign trade company for export and import of grain and other products located at the Free Zone of Mersin, Turkey; Combined Trade Ltd, flour milling factory for producing and marketing of wheat flour inside and outside of Turkey, located in Turkey; Agro-Mar Agriculture Ltd, located in Northern Iraq dealing with the distribution of seed, grain and flour.

8 Alfalfa Seed Gea medicago sativa GEA has an exceptionally high level of protein content and is in pole position among the varieties on the market. Its exceptional stem fineness is the result of a selection effort that guarantees an excellent quality for forage. GEA has a good frost tolerance and is perfectly adapted to frequent cuts. Its production is constant and well distributed along the whole harvesting period. Verko medicago sativa VERKO is a dormant type with medium thick stems. VERKO offers good resistance against Verticillium wilt with hiegh yield of dry matter and high protein content. The high protein content is combined with a high digestibility, which allows higher animal production. Planet medicago sativa PLANET is one of the best alfalfa varieties. It has a good resistance to verticillium and fusarium as well as high persistence and stable yields. Another advantage of PLANET is its high green matter and protein yield in all cuts. PLANET can be used for three continuous years and is especially useful on sites susceptible to Verticillium. 6

9 Forage Crops Seed Peschanyj 1251 onobrychis vicifolia SAINFOIN is a very strong perennial specie, cm tall. Coarse stems, more or less empty. It is particularly suitable for dry clay soils or poor sandy ones with permeable well drained subsoils. It is normally cultivated in hilly soils not suitable for alfalfa. The seed is sold unshed (sowing rate of about 100Kg /ha) derusked (sowing rate of about 60 Kg/ha) Common Vetch vicia sativa Common vetch is an annual specie highly adaptable to different soils and climates. It is moderately frost resistant. The grass meadow that it produces is normally used fresh but it can also be hayed or silaged. Hungarian Vetch vicia pannonica Hungarian Vetch is cultivated as an agricultural crop for use as hay and fodder. This is an annual herb producing a hairy, climbing stem supported by the tendrils on its leaf-tips. It has high resistance to drought and cold conditions, therefore mainly cultivated in Central Anatolia. 7

10 Forage Grass Seed In Turkey, the usage of forage grasses are barely used in agriculture, however in foreign countries it is widely used. It plays a huge role in development of animal breeding and control of erosion. Widely usage of these crops in Turkish agriculture will provide benefit both our agriculture and national economy. Forage grasses actually have an huge importance in fodder production. It completes the considered ideal protein and carbohydrate values in animal nutrition with the other fodder crops. Mixture of grasses within these two groups is ideal for animal nutrition in nutritional values and economical sense. Being salt tolerant and high cultivation capabilities in arid conditions enables the usage in agriculture on wide areas. The variety can be used as a main crop and as an intercrop; it produces high yields under both systems. Other characteristics are a quick development and a high vigour. It is well adapted to various ecological conditions. The variety has a winter hardiness to a certain extend, it can overcome mild winters. It has high resistance to rust. POLLANUM also has high yield potential. Sorghum-Sudangrass sorghum bicolor x sudanese Sorghum-Sudangrass hybrids offer a solution to producing forage dry matter when an emergency occurs. They have large stems. They are warm season grasses. Sorghum- Sudan grasses yield slightly lower than corn when harvested for silage, but they have the advantage that they can be cut 2-3 times during the season. They can also be harvested using a strip grazing system. 9

14 Activities The main aim of MARO is fulfilling the certified seeds needed by Turkish farmers. The company is collaborating with agricultural faculties and public research institutes in order to supply certified seeds of high yielding, good quality and resistant cultivars, which is the most important inputs. These collaborative research activities have been continued since Through these; several cultivars of fodder legumes, fodder grasses, turf grasses, wheat and corn were tested and some of them registered. For some of the others, MARO got seed multiplication permition. In Turkey, our company has the biggest shares of seed market for alfalfa and sainfoin. In addition, we annually multiply and supply tons certified seeds of field crops. Meantime, breeding studies and technological developments around the world reviewed with joint studies by agricultural faculties and research institutes to be optimized and adapted to the Turkish conditions. MARO continues research, breeding, field trial and preregistration studies across Turkey especially on field crops. 12

15 Grain and Flour Grains are the main ingredients of bread making and animal feeding, staple food for many civilizations as direct and indirect use. Therefore, they have to be available as adequate amount for human been. To achieve the above aim, MARO cooperates directly with important national and foreign producers and distributors in order to supply wheat, barley, corn and soybean. This fact assures a satisfied quality level of production and services. Besides supplying grains, we have the possibility to mill flour at our own factories in Turkey. MARO has the variety of products, which meet all the requirements of our costumers.
