INTRODUCTION TO EASI The European All-Terrain Vehicle Safety Institute (EASI) is a non profit making organisation, founded in 2002 to implement a national programme of all-terrain vehicle (ATV) safety education, training and awareness. Andy Heitman, founder and principal of EASI, has been heavily involved in ATV's and training for over 20 years. Right from the launch of the original Suzuki Quadrunner four-wheel ATVs, Andy has been active in promoting and presenting safe riding and training programmes as a retailer and ATV safety consultant. EASI's primary goal is to promote by education, awareness and training, the safe and environmentally responsible use of ATV's, thereby reducing accidents, injuries and environmental damage that may result from improper ATV operation by the rider. EASI has 6 main operating areas:- 1. Activity and Trekking Centres. EASI have developed a range of training courses and qualifications specifically designed for staff working in outdoor activity and trekking centres. 2. Corporate Training EASI work with a large and growing number of organisations throughout the UK to provide ATV training courses for non specialist users. 3. Specialist ATV services. Amongst a number of services, EASI act as Technical Expert for Hampshire LEA and provide expert witness consultancy and safety advice in legal cases. 4. ATV Dealer Education Programmes EASI provide an education and awareness programme, backed by the leading manufacturers, for around 1,000 ATV dealers in the UK. 5. Environmental Awareness Training All EASI training programmes promote a responsible approach to environmental and countryside issues. 6. ATV Rider Courses EASI Instructors across the UK provide ATV rider training for the general public either direct to the general public or via dealers supplying Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki and Yamaha ATV's at a subsidised cost.

4 2. ACTIVITY AND TREKKING CENTRES EASI have developed a range of training courses and qualifications specifically designed for staff working in outdoor activity and trekking centres. These qualifications range from a basic, non riding, Supervisor Award for enclosed track operations with children from 6-16 to more advanced qualifications for trekking operations. EASI can also provide these operations with other services, including: * Operational procedures * Risk assessments * ATV and safety equipment advice * Quality assurance criteria * Technical assistance.

5 3. CORPORATE TRAINING EASI work with a large and growing number of organisations throughout the UK to provide ATV training courses for non specialist users. Organisations EASI have worked with include the Police, Military and Coastguard as well as a number of public and private companies. EASI are working towards forming partnerships with other recognised ATV training organisations in order to develop additional bolt on qualifications for specialist users. 4. SPECIALIST ATV SERVICES Amongst a number of services, EASI act as Technical Expert for Hampshire LEA and provide expert witness consultancy and safety advice in legal cases.

DEALER EDUCATION EASI work with around 1,000 ATV dealerships in the UK delivering an education and awareness programme, sponsored by the leading manufacturers, with the aim of achieving a common high standard relating to the sale of ATVs by Manufacturer or Importer appointed retail dealerships. The education programme also allows the dealer to take part in an EASI Rider Course as well as covering the following topics:- * Rider Training / EASI Rider Course * Recommended Safety Equipment / Clothing * Machine Introduction * Riding and Operation Theory * Pre-Ride Checks and Preventative Maintenance * Test Rides and Demonstrations * The All Terrain Motor Vehicle (safety) Regulations 1989 * Dealer to Customer Delivery Note

7 6. ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS All EASI training programmes promote a responsible approach to environmental and countryside issues - the EASI Environmental Code. Riders are shown the importance of respecting the environment and the rights of others and how they can travel and recreate whilst making the minimum impact on the environment. The importance of permission and planning is highlighted along with the need to ensure the future use of the outdoors by riding responsibility at all times.

ATV RIDER COURSES From April 2nd 2006, all buyers of both new and used ATV s purchased in the UK from authorised HONDA, KAWASAKI, POLARIS, SUZUKI and YAMAHA dealers will be eligible for EASI rider training either free of charge or at a highly subsidised rate. EASI UK Regional Operations is being sponsored by HONDA, KAWASAKI, POLARIS, SUZUKI and YAMAHA, and is developing an expanding network of fully trained and qualified EASI Rider Course Instructors across the UK to meet the need for ATV rider training. The EASI Rider Course can be booked on line via the dealer OR at home via The course is a hands-on learning experience that is both practical and enjoyable. Apart from the riding techniques and training the course also covers safety clothing and protective equipment, pre-ride inspections, risk assessment and, most importantly, environmental issues. The course takes place on a range area 150 x 200 in size and lasts around 4 1/2 hours. The course consists of 16 lessons, as follows:-

9 ATV RIDER COURSES (cont) In the first 75 minutes, 5 lessons are covered:- 1. Introduction to the ATV Rider Course, protective clothing and equipment and pre ride inspections of ATV s (T-CLOC) 2. Range signals, rules and warm up exercises 3. Controls and starting the engine 4. Starting out, shifting gears and braking 5. Turning Following a short break the riders spend the next hour learning and practising the following:- 6. Riding strategies / Risk awareness 7. Riding circles and figure of 8 8. Quicker turns 9. Sharp turns

10 ATV RIDER COURSE (cont) In the second half of the course there are 6 more lessons:- 10. Quick stops and swerves 11. Quick stop in a turn 12. Riding over obstacles 13. Safe and responsible riding practices 14. U-turn / Traversing hills 15. Circuit or Trail ride Finally, 16. The EASI Rider Course is completed by a wrap up and review session together with the distribution of STUDENT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION FORMS to all riders. These forms detail the areas and skills that require further work and practice by the rider.
