Collected cattle dung samples to assess insecticidal effects on dung beetle community. Studied the toxic effects of neonicotinoid seed treatments on honey bees and a native predatory ladybeetle. Networked and established trusting relationships with producers and bee keepers in order to establish research plots on their land. Operated farm equipment to plant and manage oilseed crops on producerowned land. Advised a central Minnesota producer on cover crop selection for their farm. 2 Assessed how insecticidal seed treatments alter pest and beneficial insect communities within sunflower fields. Developed protocols for quantifying insecticide levels in wheat, aphids, and sunflower tissue using a competitive ELISA technique. Described the exposure of honey bees to seed-treated corn guttation fluid. Organized a graduate student and post-doctorate journal club. Biological Science Aid, Entomology/ Agroecology LabMay 2010-September 2012 Studied the use of cover crops to increase soil quality and promote natural enemies to suppress corn rootworm. Assisted in beneficial insect movement studies using protein markers and ELISAs to track movements between prairies and soybean fields. Assessed corn rootworm blood defenses against predacious ground beetles. Examined how conservation tillage affects weed and insect communities. Studied the diversity of insects in prairies and cattle pastures. Assisted in many public outreach events related to sustainable agriculture.
