2 Current situation in digital tools and learning environments The purpose of the study -The current situation in relation to the digitalisation of the learning environment -How digital learning environments are used in teaching -Teachers' skills in making use of digital learning material. Results -Teachers in comprehensive schools view digitalisation in a positive light and would like to use more digital applications in their work -Roughly half of the teachers believe they master the basics in information and technology use and close to one third feel that their skills are more advanced -Around 20% of the respondents reported having significant shortcomings in their ICT competence. -Half of all respondents were satisfied with their internet connections while one in three were dissatisfied with their wireless connection.

3 To move on, the report suggests Successful elements in the digitalization of teaching consist of peer training and peer learning based on user needs, where the instruction takes place in the environment and context where the teacher uses the skills. In the light of the forthcoming new national curriculum, programming is still very rarely included in the study modules in comprehensive schools, and media contents are seldom produced by students for educational purposes. The report also indicates that various ways of implementing digitalization and their cyclical development are important factors, where all parties can be involved. 7 The objective is to make Finland a leading country of future learning and inspiring education The reform will be carried out in three areas: new pedagogy, new learning environments and the digitalization of education. The goal is to improve learning results, respond to future skills and competence needs, renew pedagogy through experimental schemes and inspire lifelong learning. This key project will be implemented by making full use of teachers skills and experiences while giving them extensive pedagogic latitude. Local solutions,

10 The aims of the Teacher Education Forum Prepare a Development Program for Teachers Pre- and In-service Education (life-long professional development). Support the implementation of the program. Create the conditions for the renewal of Finnish Teacher Education through development projects. Analyse the research outcomes of research on teachers pre- and in-service education. Analyse the current issues in teacher education, like teacher education strategies and policy documents in other countries and organisations, like OECD.
