We use latest CNC manufacturing technology to assure that SMS Concast moulds conform to the tightest parameters of uniformity. 6 State-of-the-art manufacturing Advanced CNC machining Unlike conventional moulds, which are formed by the old-fashioned cold-drawing method, SMS Concast Moulds exploits the precision of modern CNC milling. Computer-guided machining delivers higher precision and reliably reproducible mould quality. After machining, the inner surface of the mould is treated with a unique chemical preparation that ensures the adhesion of the final chromium layer. This is applied with our new, proprietary Cr-plating process, developed in cooperation with the research engineers at IPA Fraunhofer Institute in Stuttgart, Germany. Production of SMS Concast moulds has been optimized at every step of the process. The finished mould tubes achieve the highest quality levels, ensuring a long service life and a satisfying return on investment for the steelmaker.
