2 Welcome Durham Education Business Partnership has been working with schools, colleges and businesses for over 25 years. Our aim is to help students learn about the world of work and to help businesses to un derstand education today and become involved in helping to prepare the workforce of tomorrow. All of our activities are facilitated and delivered by experienced and qualified staff and we provide you with a detailed evaluation following each event. We work with you to help your students to: Raise aspirations Plan for progression Access impartial careers education information, advice and guidance Develop employability skills Access accreditation opportunities Work with employers Education Business Partnership staff work closely with employers, training providers, IAG staff and other agencies to ensure we have access to a broad range of professionals to support the work we undertake. 3 Careers Education Information, Advice & Guidance Group Work One-to-One Guidance Interviews Choice of sessions delivered to small groups (6 8), whole class and whole year groups. Specific careers or routes. Higher education. Apprenticeships and jobs. Careers, research and resources. Group interviews. Options at Yr 9/11/12/13 Group work sessions to prepare students for the range of options available. Guidance through the choices available of FE/HE, Apprenticeships and employment. Professionals available to support the sessions. Suitable for whole classes or small groups. Tailored to meet individual/school needs. Provided by level 7 qualified and experienced careers professionals. Minimum 30 minute interviews. Provision of guidance action plans. Follow up support at key transition points. Suitable for students at Y9 for options. Suitable for students at Y10/11 for progression. Suitable for students at Y12/13 for progression. Parent Evenings Provided by level 7 qualified and experienced careers professionals. Attendance at the full range (Y7 Y13) of parent evenings. Choice of pre-booked or drop-in appointments. Presentations of options information available. Careers Education Information, Advice & Guidance Continuing Professional Development We are able to offer a range of CPD/coaching and support to meet your needs. CPD can be delivered either on or off site with a degree of flexibility to fit around your own CPD arrangements. This service is bespoke but examples of how we can support you include the following: Developing a Quality Assurance Model for GEIAG. Tutor Team Development Post 16 Qualifications and Routes. Using CEIAG to enhance aspiration and acheivement eg. Careers of the Future. Specific support at each stage of a Quality Award for CEIAG. 4 Work Related Learning KS3/4 The Apprenticeship Lesson Plan Session designed to raise awareness of apprenticeships and how to apply for opportunities. Overview of the National Apprenticeship Service. Local businesses can support the activity to explain the apprenticeship routes available in their organisations. Suitable for KS4. Up to 30 learners. Business Enterprise Challenges Students create a new product/social enterprise and marketing strategy. Challenges are adapted and themed dependant on the business or social enterprise slant. Students pitch their ideas to industry volunteers in a Dragon s Den style situation. Arena Gig Students work in teams to plan an Arena Gig for a band or artist of their choice. Teams consider: Set design Publicity Wardrobe Back stage Celebrity demands The Buzz Interactive techniques designed to reveal different aspects of personality and how they may help to influence career choice. A range of fun activities for students which can be selected from a wide menu. Up to 30 learners per workshop, can be a stand alone event or one of a number of workshops. 1 hour or 1/2 day. Careers What Next? An interactive experience where students are given the opportunity to engage in industry related tasks. Opportunity to learn about a wide range of career options and the routes available to achieve success. Schools can adapt the focus of the activities for different year groups. Up to whole school. Career Pathways Business volunteers outline their pathways to career success. Students get a detailed insight into the different pathways available on leaving education. Activity designed to raise awareness of apprenticeships, further education, higher education, jobs and self employment. Suitable for KS3. Duck Day The Celebration A fast paced team activity where students compete to manufacture paper ducks. Opportunity to appreciate the changing demands of the market place and the need for companies to adapt to survive. Activity designed to develop enterprise skills, communication, teamwork, etc. Students plan all aspects of a large celebration event. 5 Work Related Learning KS3/4 continued Making the Grade Mock Interviews Carousel based activity designed to encourage and motivate students to make the grade in their exams and as a future employee. Workshops can include: Revision and study skills The Buzz What employers want Coping strategies Suitable for KS4. Up to 30 learners. My Teacher is a Vampire! Students use their literacy, teamwork, communication and creative skills. This activity engages students in writing a story, designing a book cover and preparing marketing materials for the next vampire bestseller. Suitable for KS3. Business volunteers interview students on a one-to-one basis and provide useful feedback on their performance. An opportunity to learn how to approach an interview situation. Suitable for KS4. A full year group can be catered for depending upon the number of available business volunteers. School s Go Green / Building a Sustainable Community Raises awareness of issues related to climate change and sustainability. Students design and build a 3D model of an eco-friendly school. Activity designed to develop enterprise skills, communication, teamwork, etc. Speed Networking Science of Our Lives A fast paced business networking activity which enables students to learn about a number of job roles. Opportunity to meet employers from a range of industries. Speed networking format with the opportunity to experience psychometric testing to raise awareness of suitable career paths. Work Why Bother? Students consider the importance of work and the benefits and rewards it can bring. Issues addressed include: Self esteem Wealth creation Lifestyle, etc Suitable for KS3. Up to 30 learners. Interactive workshops run by industry professionals to demonstrate the use of science and engineering in our everyday lives. This event promotes the importance of science/ STEM subjects and their applications in the work place. You re Hired You re Fired! Activity based on the TV show The Apprentice. Students work in teams on a range of tasks. Opportunities are given to demonstrate employability skills, including teamwork, communication, problem solving, leadership, creativity, working to deadlines, etc. Awareness raising of the recruitment and selection process. 6 Developing Young People s Leadership Working in partnership with University of The First Age (UFA) Peer Tutors Students of Today Leaders of Tomorrow An interactive experience to allow young people to learn more about themselves as learners, to become effective team players and leaders to help them become peer tutors. Peer tutors meet several challenges during the course. Benefits include: increased self confidence, improved communication skills, leadership qualities, improved attainment and attitude to school. 2 day course fully resourced and facilitated. Up to 20 learners. An active progressive experience built around a challenge framework. Students develop understanding of how to lead themselves and others in School, their community and as a citizen. Main course modules are: Developing the skills of a leader Student leadership roles Leadership in practice 2 day course fully resourced and facilitated. Up to 15 learners. 7 Work Experience KS4 and Post-16 Block Work Experience Extended Work Experience Full EBP service to brief students, arrange placements, negotiate placement with employer, provide full job details. Supported by a dedicated member of staff. A one or two week block of work experience on an employers premises. Log book included to record activities undertaken. Certificate available on completion of work experience. Opportunity to gain a valuable insight into particular industries and job roles. Health and safety checked by qualified staff. Suitable for KS4 and Post-16. Up to full year group. An extended period of work experience. Can be one or two days per week over a negotiated period of time. Health and safety checked by qualified staff. Opportunity to gain a valuable insight into particular industries and job roles. Log book included to record activities undertaken. Certificate available on completion of work experience. Placement monitoring. Suitable for Post-16. Numbers of students subject to negotiation. Log Book & Certificate Work experience log book provided with sections dedicated to the preparation and debrief of placements. Full diary section. Employer evaluation sheet. Health and safety exercises. Certificate available upon successful completion of placement. Preparation for Work Experience Briefing for students prior to placements. Includes advice about placement opportunities available. Includes information about the process/ timescales involved. Includes advice about health and safety in the work place. Suitable for KS4 and Post-16 Up to full year group. Health & Safety Comprehensive health and safety checking service. All health and safety checks undertaken by qualified staff. Employer and public liability checks undertaken. Accident/incident investigation service. Our students really enjoyed their work experience placements and they were hugely beneficial.
