8 Sports Rules and the Maximum Effort Rule The competition will run in accordance with Article 1 of the Special Olympics Sports Rules and the 2014 Official Special Olympics Sports Rules for Alpine Skiing (except for Section E.1.c.3). Athletes must participate honestly and with maximum effort in all classification and competition ski runs as per Article 1 of the Special Olympics Sports Rules (Section J). Divisioning / Classification Divisioning will be done in accordance with Article 1 of the Special Olympics Sports Rules (Section I). Results taken from Special Olympics Regional Competitions in 2014 and 2015 will be used to create the initial divisions for the classification races. The results of the classification races will then determine the divisions for the competition races. Awards Awards will be given out in accordance with Article 1 of the Special Olympics Sports Rules (Section K). Weather permitting, all award ceremonies will be held outside in the main square, opposite the Grand Hotel where there is plenty of standing room available and which will hopefully encourage members of the public to watch as well. If necessary, award ceremonies can be moved inside the Salle de Serre d Aigle where there will be chairs available for spectators. Medical Services A Medical Officer (Shane Tibby) will be available for general advice for delegations. Within Chantemerle there is also a Medical Centre in the Salle de Serre d Aigle and a pharmacy Page 8 of 10
9 in the row of shops on the main road behind the Grand Hotel. The nearest Hospital (with a helicopter pad) is in the next closest town of Brianҫon. Alcohol and Tobacco All delegations are reminded that as detailed in Article 5 of the Special Olympics General Rules, no alcohol or tobacco products are allowed at any Special Olympics training or competition venue. In addition to this, it is Special Olympics GB s policy that no member of a delegation may consume alcohol at any time while Special Olympics has duty of care responsibility for Special Olympics Athletes. Top Tips to Stay Safe on the Slopes Take out comprehensive travel insurance Make sure you get insurance with winter sports cover and check that it covers amateur racing. Have a medical check-up Ensure you provide the correct medical information to your insurance company. Failure to do so could invalidate your insurance policy. Watch your speed and distance Most skiing injuries are caused by collisions with other skiers. Wear the right safety equipment Protect your head and wear a helmet. Many insurers insist you wear one otherwise your policy could be invalidated. Emergency Services Know how to contact the emergency services. Dial 112 in Europe.
