Getting permission can take a long time, so it s best to write your letters now instead of panicking before the fair. MISSION STATEMENT 4-H EMPOWERS YOUTH TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL WORKING AND LEARNING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH CARING ADULTS
4 Instructions for Working in the 4-H Food Stand Please arrive 10 minutes prior to your shift time to get instructions and ease the transition. NO flip flops or sandals. CLOSED TOED footwear only for safety reasons. Long hair must be pulled back and restrained. CLEAN caps are acceptable. Do not play with or touch your hair during your shift. Wear the 4-H uniform. Jeans are okay if they are clean and not torn. Footwear must also be clean. There s nothing worse than ordering food and smelling the barn. Bring your smile! Upon arrival, fill out your name tag and sign into the log book. Wash your hands with soap and dry them with paper towels. If you leave the stand, wash your hands again when you return. Each club will provide a window person to work the kitchen window. All front workers will call or give the customer orders to this person only. He or she will in turn tell the kitchen staff the order. This person needs to speak clearly and loudly with some politeness. This person must be organized and able to handle up to 4 orders at one time and have them complete and passed to the person who presented the order. Four front workers, the order people, will take and present orders to the window person. After the food order is placed, they will wait for the completed order and present it back to the customer. They will work in a rotation fashion to keep the orders flowing smoothly. One person will be the drink person. After the food order is placed, the drink person will step up and ask, What would you like to drink? This moves the customer a little farther down the line towards the cashier so additional orders can be taken. The drink person will provide what they have asked for. By that time, the order person will hopefully have the completed order to them and then they are ready for the cashier. Keep the line moving! When we have a large amount of people waiting, that s the most important thing. Some items take a little longer to prepare, but others can be presented quickly. Keeping the line moving also allows more 4-H ers to help the customers. The last area that needs coverage for one or more people is the condiment and clean-up area. These people are in charge of refilling all containers: ketchup, pickles, onions, napkins, etc. They also wash the trays, counters, and picnic tables. When a container is almost empty, it can be added to another container (warm to warm). The empty container is washed out in the kitchen with soap & water, then filled with fresh ingredients. Ketchup containers are always filled full. All other containers are filled half full. Refill pop machines around 3pm and again at 9pm. Pop can be moved from the back pop machines to the front. When moving pop out of the walk-in cooler, it should be placed in the back pop machine area leaving the bottom left hand corner of the Coke machine empty for condiment containers. At the end of the evening, the walk-in cooler can be filled with warm pop but check with the kitchen staff before doing so. At the end of the night, clean up. All containers are cleaned and refilled fresh. Wash tablecloths and remove when dry. Place clips in the ice cream bucket. Refill pop machines. Bring in the sandwich board. Sweep the floor. Tie and take out garbage bags and replace with new. Take off seats and bring inside. Sometimes the kitchen workers can use help washing dishes check with them. THANK YOU for working hard during your shift! NOTICE for the Dairy Barn! There is absolutely NO CLIPPING of cattle in the milking area. If anyone is found clipping their dairy cattle or any clipping tools are found in the milking area at any time during the three days they are at the fairgrounds, the 4-Her s responsible will be forfeiting their premium money. If this is seen again by the milk inspector, we will be in jeopardy of losing our permit to milk your dairy cattle and holding the milk.
