1 February (7) APPLICANTS GUIDE FOR VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION IN BUSINESS AND ADMINISTRATION QBA AND VOCATIONAL QUALIFICATION IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY QIT APPLICATION PERIOD 23 FEBRUARY 30 APRIL 2016 ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS 17 AND 18 MAY 2016 Entrance requirements The basic entrance requirements are Upper secondary school Good written and oral command of English Basic computer skills (QBA applicants) Good computer skills (QIT applicants) Successful completion of the entrance examination (only applicants with successfully completed upper secondary education abroad) Applicants with Successfully Completed Upper Secondary Education in Finland General application criteria are 1. Finnish matriculation examination 2. Upper secondary school 3. Statement of purpose (a word essay; reasons and motivation for applying for this programme). The intake for the QBA programme in 2016 is 27 students from this category of applicants and for the QIT programme 15 students from this category of applicants. Please note that the intake quantities may diverge based on the amount of applications. Admission points a) School Certificates a) School certificates 30 points (for the average of the school certificate and for the matriculation examination grades ( points max.) b) Work experience 10 points Total 40 points The applicant receives admission points based on the matriculation examination certificate and the upper secondary school leaving certificate as follows. Students graduating in spring 2016 must submit most recent school certificates or transcripts. Those graduating in spring 2016 must submit copies of their matriculation certificates and upper secondary school leaving certificates to the Student Affairs Office by 10 June A student cannot be accepted into the programme without having completed the upper secondary school.

Proof of employment clearly indicating the number of working hours per month must be submitted in the form of copies of work certificates. Full-time work: 150 working hours or more per month qualifies as full-time employment. Part-time work: working hours per month qualifies as part-time employment. When working part-time, a period of 150 hours corresponds to a month of work experience.

Admission points a) Work Experience School certificates 0 points a) Work experience 10 points b) Entrance examination 40 points Total 50 points Applicants without the Finnish matriculation examination will not get points based on their upper secondary school certificates. It should be noted that certified copies of school certificates and transcripts with a translation into English or Finnish must be enclosed with the application as proof of successfully completed upper secondary education. Please take notice that an application will not be processed until all the required documents, including upper secondary school certificates and transcripts have been submitted. The applicant gets 1 point for every 3 months of full-time work experience and 1 point for every 6 months of part-time work experience. Applicants must pass both parts of the entrance examination. There are no assigned entrance examination books.

4 February (7) Health Insurance International students must have a health insurance policy that covers the costs of their possible medical care. Health insurance is a requirement for obtaining a residence permit for studies in Finland. If you come from outside Finland it will be useful to bring along any relevant documents related to your state of health, e.g. vaccinations. This will help you when you contact any members of our medical services. Further information Cost of Studies in Finland for International Students Helsinki Business College does not have scholarships available for international students and cannot offer financial assistance to students toward travel expenses, living expenses or study-related expenses in Finland. Therefore, students are required to finance and to cover these costs to the full amount themselves. Common expense items include: course text books photocopied course material study supplies study equipment meals housing travel other general living expenses To comply with the Finnish immigration law, international students are required to produce written proof of their ability to support themselves financially for the duration of their studies. For more information, please consult (the Finnish Immigration Service) and (CIMO, the centre for international mobility). Unfortunately, we cannot help with the VISA issues. Invitation to Entrance Examination (applicants with successfully completed upper secondary education abroad) Separate written invitations to a one-day long entrance examination will be issued to applicants who qualify based on their prior study records, work experience and the statement of purpose. Entrance examination for the QIT programme will take place on 17 May 2016 at Helsinki Business College, Vallila Campus (Hattulantie 2) and for the QBA programme on 18 May 2016 at Helsinki Business College, Pasila Campus (Rautatieläisenkatu 5). The applicants will be invited to participate in the examination on a given date based on their order of preference on the application form. The

5 February (7) Results and Appeals entrance examination is free of charge. Please note that it is not possible to have the test anywhere else. Admission decisions will be announced and written invitations to accepted students mailed on 16 June All applicants who attended the entrance examination will receive a written notification of his/her personal admission decision. An applicant who disagrees with the decision can request a review and correction of his/her case. An appeal to this effect must be made in writing to REGIONAL STATE ADMINISTRATIVE AGENCY (ETELÄ-SUOMEN ALUEHALLINTOVIRASTO) within 14 days after the publication of the results. The appeal must state in detail which part(s) of the entrance examination and admissions procedure are requested to be reviewed and corrected, and on what basis. Results of entrance examination and admissions processes cannot be altered to the detriment of students already admitted. Written Confirmation of Study Place and Enrolment An applicant accepted to the English programme must confirm his/her enrolment by submitting a written confirmation form of the offered study place to the student affairs office by 30 June 2016, on the end of office hours at 15:00 at the latest. If the applicant fails to submit the confirmation form by the date indicated in the decision, he/she loses the offered study place.

Applicants with Successfully Completed Upper Secondary Education in Finland 2. Applicants with Successfully Completed Upper Secondary Education abroad If you apply for more than one programmes with one application form, please announce the order of preference on the application form. Personal Information Contact Information Please fill in all the information accurately. In the First name field, please write your first name (your forename for everyday use). Please fill in your current residence address. Please write the postal code of your place of residence (in numbers) and the name of the city. A Finnish postal code may be chosen from the list. Educational background Work Experience Language Skills Please fill in the information about your upper secondary education, and other education, training and degrees completed. Entrance requirement for this programme is upper secondary education (12 year general education, advanced level) i.e. studies equivalent to Finnish Matriculation Examination. Only the work experience obtained after the applicant has reached 16 years of age will be taken into account. Work experience periods for less than one month will not be taken into account. When working part-time, a period of 150 hours corresponds to a month of work experience. Ongoing work experience will be taken into account until the day of application is submitted. Please fill in your work experience in complete years and months. Entrance requirement for this programme is a good written and oral command of English. Please fill in the information and use the given scale to assess your skills (speaking, reading and writing).

7 February (7) Computer Skills Statement of Purpose Immigration Status Enclosures Entrance requirement for the QBA programme are basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office. The applicants applying for the QIT programme should be experienced computer users and have good IT skills. Please use the given scale to assess your skills and fill in the information in all these fields. Please write your statement of purpose in this field. The content should cover your reasons and motivation for applying for this programme. Please note that applications without a statement of purpose are not considered. Please note that if you are a Finnish citizen, you do not fill in this section. The applicants are asked to enclose copies of the following documents to their application: - Educational Certificates for upper secondary education - Educational Certificates of Matriculation Exam - Work experience and job certificates Please send the enclosures to Helsinki Business College by mail: Helsinki Business College, P.O. Please note that your application will not be valid unless you have submitted the enclosures by the end of the application period (by April 30 th 2016). Please note that all documents must be translated into English or Finnish and must be certified to be true and correct copies of the original translations and they must carry personal signatures of two persons who have seen the original documents and translations. All admitted students are required to present the original documents, certificates and references at the very beginning of the first study year.
