2 Tour Itinerary & Suggested Drives Day 1 Morning P&O ferry crossing from Dover to Calais followed by the drive through Northern France and Belgium en route to the picture postcard town of Monschau and the Carat Hotel - Check-in followed by a welcome dinner in the hotel where participants will have the opportunity to meet each other. Mileage miles Day 2 Depart Monschau after breakfast and continue the journey south east to Wurzburg, the gateway to Germany's Romantic Road. Arrival here will be mid/ late afternoon. Check-in at the Novotel Wuzburg followed by dinner in the hotel. - Mileage miles Day 3 Departing Wurzburg after breakfast today our routing sees us crossing the border into the Czech Republic around midday as we make our way to Prague and the excellent Hotel Kampa, your base for the next 3 nights. Dinner is arranged in the hotel tonight. - Mileage miles Day 4 & 5 Breakfast followed by the full day at leisure in Prague. Accommodation on these days is on a bed & breakfast basis allowing you the opportunity to sample some of the wonderful restaurants, bars and cafes in Prague city centre. Day 6 Departing Hotel and Prague after breakfast, today we make the short journey South to Český Krumlov stopping en route in České Budějovice, (sometimes referred to as Budweis in English) the largest city in the South Bohemian Region and home to 'Budwar or Budweiser beer which remains one of the most popular brews in the country. Arrival in Český Krumlov and the Hotel Ruze will be late afternoon. Check-in followed by dinner in the hotel. Mileage miles Day 7 Breakfast followed by the full day at leisure in Český Krumlov. Crowned by a spectacular castle, and centred on an elegant old town square, Český Krumlov is a pocket-sized Prague. Renaissance and baroque buildings enclose the meandering arc of the Vltava river, housing riverside cafés and bars. Day 8 Departing Hotel and Český Krumlov after breakfast, today you'll begin the homeward journey crossing the border back into Germany. Today we'll make a stop in Augsburg, the third largest city in Bavaria, founded by the Romans and one of the oldest cities in Germany. This city, located on the Romantic Road, offers numerous places of interest Your journey then continues on to Ulm where your overnight stop is at the Hotel Seligweile. Check-in followed by dinner in the hotel. Mileage miles Day 9 Breakfast see us departing Ulm and today your journey takes you via Stuttgart to Nancy in France. Stuttgart is home to both Porsche and Mercedes- Benz, so why not take the opportunity to visit one of the spectacular museums of these car giants. (Please note: Suttgart city centre is a Low Emission Zone). Late afternoon/early evening arrival at the Novotel Ouest in Nancy with dinner in the hotel. 4 Places to Visit Charles Bridge, Prague Originally a wooden structure it got washed away during a bad flood and was replaced by a stronger stone structure which became known as the Judith Bridge. After more flood damage it was basically this structure that was strengthened, repaired and formed into what you see today. It was decorated and renamed in the honour of King Charles IV. It has 30 statues of saints (15 on each side) each with it's own history and unbelievably it still had a tramline running across it up until You won't have to make any special detour to visit the Charles Bridge because you'll almost certainly walk over it as you pass between the Old Town and the Lesser Town. The Old Royal Palace, Prague Castle The Old Royal Palace at the Prague Castle used to be the seat of Czech rulers for centuries. Originally from the 12 th century, it was rebuilt several times through the years, so it is an amazing mix of several architectural styles, mostly Gothic and Renaissance. It includes one of the most important representation rooms at the Prague Castle the Vladislav Hall. The Old Royal Palace was founded around 1135 by Sobeslav I., the Duke of the Premyslid dynasty. It was a luxury Romanesque palace at the time, inspired by German residences. The original All Saints Chapel was consecrated in A visit of the Old Royal Palace is a part of the sightseeing tour of the Prague Castle. St Nicholas Church Mala Strana The Church of St Nicholas is the most famous Baroque church in Prague. Twelve houses, including the important Rotunda of St Wenceslas, an old school and two adjacent cemeteries were closed and demolished to make space for the building. Construction began when the Jesuits chose the initial plans by Giovanni Domenico Orsi in 1673 and lasted approximately one hundred years. There are different elements to the church including it's art, architecture, musical venue and site of a Czech security observation point. Český Krumlov State Castle Český Krumlov State Castle with its architectural standard, cultural tradition, and expanse ranks among the most important historic sights in the central European region. Originally Gothic castle from 13th century was enlarged in 14th century and it was rebuit in the Renaissance style in 16th century. In 17th and 18th centuries the castle was modified in the Baroque and the Rococo style. After the castle tour, but also after the visitor sees the garden and the whole area of the castle he or she can feel like in the Middle Ages when the nobility walked through the corridors.
