RELEASE NOTES Software Date July Rev A Polycom RealPresence Capture Server - Appliance Edition
Polycom RealPresence Capture Server - Appliance Edition Release Notes This is the first release of the Polycom RealPresence Capture Server - Appliance Edition(herein RealPresence Capture Server). The RealPresence Capture Server is a network appliance that participates in standards-based video and telepresence calls, converting the video and content in those calls into live streams (for live viewing on devices with compatible web browsers) as well a video-ondemand archives for playback on video conferencing systems and devices with compatible web browsers, including tablets, smart phones, PCs, and MAC desktops. The RealPresence Capture Server version 1.0 is typically deployed as part of a larger Polycom RealPresence Platform, but it can be used stand-alone. The Real Presence Capture Server s full potential can best be realized when integrated with the Polycom RealPresence Media Manager. This document provides the latest information for the RealPresence Capture Server and covers the following topics: Difference between RealPresence Capture Server and RSS 4000 Software Version History Feature Overview Known Issues Interoperability Port Usage Multi-user Login Capacity Supported Media Player Plug-ins Supported External Media Servers Supported Web Browsers For more information about configuring and using the RealPresence Capture Server, see the product documentation available at RealPresence Capture Server User Manuals. Difference between RealPresence Capture Server and RSS 4000 The RealPresence Capture Server has many capabilities in common with the Polycom RSS 4000, but the Capture Server has some important feature differences. For example, the RealPresence Capture Server 1.0 does not support these RSS 4000 features: Microsoft Lync server RSS 4000 can register to, and call or be called by Lync 2010 directly (it has RTV) - but does not do native Lync content. Multi-point recording RSS 4000 can record two endpoints without a MCU. Polycom, Inc
Max security mode RSS 4000 can be put into a max security mode (a formal "JITC" release requires special SKU and version 6.9 only). Capture Server doesn't offer max security mode nor a JITC compliance version. Predetermined VRR RSS4000 can be configured to always use a pre-programmed "known" stream URL for live streams. Microsoft Active Directory Server (LDAP) RSS 4000 can be configured to use Microsoft AD to manager user permissions (limitations apply). Microsoft Exchange Server RSS 4000 can be configured to use PCO with Exchange (limitations apply). Quick code Playback for archives RSS 4000 can play videos back to an endpoint using numeric QuickCodes. Capture Server does not do QuickCodes. WMV media format including WMV uni /multicast (with option) live streaming and VoD. RSS 4000 can record and live stream Windows Media (unicast and multicast) or mp4 (H.264). RealPresence only supports record and live stream mp4. Encode WMV to external Windows Media Server. RSS 4000 can record and live stream Windows Media (unicast and multicast) or mp4 (H.264). RealPresence Capture Server can not 1.0 only supports record and live stream mp4 (H.264). RSS4000 supports People video up to 720p60 (option enables 1080P30) and Content at XGA 7f/s (option enables content at 720p 15f/s - but HDX cannot achieve this). RealPresence Capture Server supports People video at a maximum of 720P30 video and content at 720p 15f/s. Removed the Allowed Users/Group tab in Edit VRR dialog. An administrator of VRR owner can grand users or groups pesrmission to view or modify archives or live streaming when editing an archive. Software Version History The table below lists the RealPresence Capture Server version history. Table 1 Software Version History Version Release Date Description 1.0 July 2013 This is the first release of RealPresence Capture Server. Feature Overview RealPresence Capture Server 1.0 includes the following features: RealPresence Capture Server integrates with Polycom HDX endpoints and Polycom RMX conference platforms for automated recording and playback. RealPresence Capture Server supports H.323 and SIP standards for interoperability with third-party conferencing systems. Polycom, Inc
RealPresence Capture Server is available with several licenses that control the number of video calls that can be recorded and of those calls, the number of calls that can be streamed live for viewing on web browsers. RealPresence Capture Server - 6 RealPresence Capture Server records up to 6 SIP and H.323 calls. Three of the records can be used as live.mp4 streams. Maintenance contract is required. RealPresence Capture Server - 12 RealPresence Capture Server records up to 12 SIP and H.323 calls. Six of the records can be used as live.mp4 streams. Maintenance contract is required. RealPresence Capture Server - 18 RealPresence Capture Server records up to 18 SIP and H.323 calls. Nine of the records can be used as live.mp4 streams. Maintenance contract is required. RealPresence Capture Server - 40 RealPresence Capture Server records up to 40 SIP and H.323 calls. None of the records can be used as live.mp4 streams. Maintenance contract is required. There is a capacity license that can be added to the 6/3 or 12/6 models to a maximum capacity of 18/9. The maximum stream (live or VoD) the RealPresence Capture Server can output is 720p HD (people + content combined). RealPresence Capture Server provides access to live and video call archive streams on devices with compatible browsers including PC, MAC, ios, and Android devices RealPresence Capture Server provides access to video call archives via any standard-based endpoint. RealPresence Capture Server supports up to 4 TB storage: 4 * 3.5 inch 2 TB removable HDD with RAID 10. RealPresence Capture Server provides XML API support for third-party integrations. This API is very similar, but not identical, to the RSS 4000 API. RealPresence Capture Server is best when integrated with the Polycom RealPresence Media Manager version 6.5 (or greater) for enhanced content management, auto-publishing, and streaming scalability. Known Issues This section lists the known issues for this RealPresence Capture Server release. If a workaround is available, it is noted. Known issues are organized by type. Admin UI 3584 When you down load an archive over 10GB in Admin UI by clicking the download button, only the URL of this archive is copied. Workaround: Copy this URL to a web browser address bar and down load the archive. Polycom, Inc
3577 The DSP status on Admin UI is still normal although the DSP boards are not enabled in RealPresence Capture Server 1.0. API 3321 The RealPresence Capture Server 1.0 (hence the API) does not support special VRRs such as P2P, predetermined VRRs, and external media server enabled VRRs. Workaround: Use normal VRRs Calling a Polycom HDX IPV6 address using StartCall() fails. Workaround: Call a Polycom HDX IPV4 address. Certificate 3332 The CN of RealPresence Capture Server self-signed certificate is RealPresence Capture Server, which is not a regular URL. This only allows regular URL to access RealPresence Capture Server Admin UI. Delivery Proxy 2827 On Wowza server, the latency time for live streaming is about 30 seconds If two publishing points are configured in the RealPresence Capture Server External Media Server settings, but only one call rate is set in the VRR template, RealPresence Capture Server will send the same bit rate to both publishing points. Workaround: Configure the VRR Template for (2) bit-rates While live streaming to a QuickTime Server that requires authentication, if the QuickTime server experiences network problem, RealPresence Capture Server is disconnected from the QuickTime server and cannot reconnect to the QuickTime Server even after the latter resumes its network connection. Workaround: Try one of the followings: Stop and then restart the recording. Hang up and redial to restart the recording The second rate archive is not translated to ISMV file so does not support VoD the second rate archive file Sometimes QTSS authentication fails (randomly) RealPresence Capture Server is configured to stream live to the external QTSS. Polycom, Inc
2086 RealPresence Capture Server configured to stream live to an external QuickTime server results in green, unusable video for about four seconds until the key-frames are sent from RealPresence Capture Server to QTSS and received by the web viewer. EP Recording 2907 When an Aethra X7 system sends Dual Video to RealPresence Capture Server at 384kbps in an H.323 call, RealPresence Capture Server continues to show video only both on live streaming and recording while the call statistics on Aethra shows that it is sending content. The same symptom does not happen at call rates other than 384 kbps. External Meida Server 3580 When using a Windows Server with IIS Media Services, retranscoding an archive will create a new ISMV file, but the new.ism and.ismc files cannot be uploaded to its IIS media server if the old.ism and.ismc files exist. Workaround: Delete the old.ism and.ismc files and then transcode ISMV files (IIS media server, ios6) Live streaming below 1024Kbps may has no video, only has audio. Interoperability 3541 Sony PCS - 1 fails to send content to RealPresence Capture Server via H When Sony PCS - 1 sends content to RealPresence Capture Server via H.263, the video freezes When Sony PCS - 1 sends content to RealPresence Capture Server via H.261, the window only shows the content (Android Pad) When you play VoD or live streaming on Samsung Android pad version 4.0.4, the video always jitters. Samsung Android phone and AUSU Android work fine When Cisco EX90 sends content to RealPresence Capture Server, the video is displayed on the top of the content. Normally, the video is displayed on the top left corner of the screen Polycom does not support sending contents from a Lifesize Team 220 endpoint to RealPresence Capture Server. Polycom, Inc
2893 If the Polycom RMX 1000 system uses a recording link to live stream a call with a Polycom HDX system, you cannot play the generated MP4 file from the Admin UI. The precondition is that the conference's Video Definition is set as Up to H263 4CIF 15FPS and the VRR has the option Generate MP4 Video File selected If a Polycom RMX system with an MPM+ card uses a recording link to live stream a call (at 128 kbps) with a Polycom HDX system, the Receive Video Frame Rate of the recording shown on the RealPresence Capture Server TV UI goes merely around 20 kbps If a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link to live stream in a SIP VSW conference with a Polycom HDX system RealPresence Capture Server always records at the secondary rate when the conference line rate is set as 128 kbps, 256 kbps, or 384 kbps After you record a content-sharing call at 1024 kbps or higher between a Polycom HDX system and a Polycom PVX system, you cannot find the recording from the View All Archives in the RealPresence Capture Server TV UI During a 1920 kbps H.323 call between RealPresence Capture Server and the SONY PCS-XG80 system (Version ), if the PCS-XG80 starts and then stops sending content, RealPresence Capture Server stops receiving the content accordingly but cannot switch to the people video. A black screen appears instead During an H.323 call between RealPresence Capture Server and the SONY PCS-XG80 system (version ), if the SONY PCS-XG80 starts then stops sending content, the call connection is automatically terminated after RealPresence Capture Server stops receiving content and switches to receive people video for around 90 seconds 2887 Even if the RadVision Scopia XT1000 system sends DualVideo (H.239-based People and Content) to the RealPresence Capture Server in an H.323 call, RealPresence Capture Server continues showing the people video only When RealPresence Capture Server dials into a conference hosted on a Codian MCU 4505 system (version 4.3, build 1.68 or build 2.30) at a call rate between 2048 and 4096 kbps in SIP, the connected rate shown on the Codian's call statistics is always 2000 kbps During a SIP call with a live streaming between the RadVision Scopia XT1000 system and RealPresence Capture Server, when the RadVision Scopia XT1000 system sends DualVideo (BFCP based People+Content) to RealPresence Capture Server, RealPresence Capture Server shows the content only. LPR Polycom, Inc
2690 If you configure RealPresence Capture Server in connection with a Polycom RMX 2000 system using a recording link that uses a LPR-enabled VRR during a multipoint call hosted by the RMX system, you find that the LPR are not activated on the Tx side of the recorder. Polycom, Inc
MCU Recording 2819 Recording with MGC Recording Links does not start automatically though RealPresence Capture Server is connected from MGC. Playback 3316 You cannot play an archive whose duration is longer than seven hours at one time. Workaround: Play this archive again after a while On RMX RecordingLinks, the Receive Video Frame Rate of the recording falls below 25fps when H.264 4CIF/4SIF is used as the people video resolution. RAID 10 Hardware Storage Array 3548 When RealPresence Capture Server is running and one or more hard disks malfunction or stop working, the RAID status on the Admin UI does not change, it is still normal. Workaround: When a hard disk does not work, a notification will be sent to the specified address. You will also see a pop up message indicating failed hard disks in the Admin UI. You need to replace failed hard disks and reboot RealPresence Capture Server, the RAID status will change to Degraded or the system will go to the recovery mode in case of RAID failure If you replace a failed hard disk with an used hard disk with RAID information, RealPresence Capture Server cannot recover the used hard disk. SIP Workaround: Polycom provides a spare hard disk in the case of a failure use this spare hard disk to replace a failed drive If a Polycom RMX system uses a recording link to live stream a SIP call (call rate: 128 kpbs kpbs) with a Polycom HDX system, the Video out frame rate shown on the RMX side is significantly lower than the call rate When you place a SIP call to a pre-configured conference on Codian MCU 4505 (version 4.3 (2.30)) with a SIP URI dialing in a format <conference ID>@<IP address>, call connection cannot be completed. Workaround: If you would like to directly dial in to a pre-configured conference on Codian MCU 4505 from an endpoint using a conference ID, you need to register both Codian MCU 4505 and the endpoint to the same SIP registrar server RealPresence Capture Server supports BFCP over TCP only and the far end systems that support BFCP work only on BFCP over UDP if dual stream in SIP failed. Workaround: Use 3rd party devices that support BFCP over TCP Polycom RealPresence Mobile clients cannot use DTMF to control RealPresence Capture Server when the call is via SIP. Polycom, Inc
SNMP 3498 RealPresence Capture Server does not support SNMP trap. S_PKI 2635 If you select the option System Config > Client Certificate > Enable web client certificate validation, you cannot log in to the system after the system's self-signed certificate expires. Workaround: Disable the option Enable web client certificate validation before the self-signed certificate expires. S_IPV You cannot access RealPresence Capture Server Viewer Portal via Firefox browser using IPv6 address. Workaround: Use IPV4 via Firefox and use IPV6 via Internet Explorer. Telnet 3600 If you run the command telnet off, there is no way to enable Telnet. Workaround: Do not run this command. If you run it, use OOB to restore the server to its factory default configuration. Telnet is enabled by default. Transcoding 3592 Transcoding of some archives may stall at 90% completed, however, the transcoding never completes. Workaround: Restart RealPresence Capture Server. Video 2923 When you dial in to a meeting using a Polycom RealPresence Mobile application (with call rate < 1 Mbps, online encoding), the video aspect ratio is 4:3. If a Polycom CMA Desktop user dials in later and changes the video aspect ratio to 16:9, your local video becomes fuzzy. Viewer Portal 3573 The both sides of live streaming have wide black bars occasionally when content share occurs in a recording meeting. Polycom, Inc
3553 When you play a media file, the screen displays "the media is loading or buffering" occasionally and the volume control bar also disappears, but the media file is played normally You cannot fast forward or fast reverse VoD via Chrome and Firefox. Workaround: Use Internet Explorer If you use Internet Explorer 8 with Compatibility View disabled to play a VoD, the VoD's time progress bar does not move with the playing video occasionally. Workaround: Turn on Compatibility View for your Internet Explorer When you view a QuickTime Streaming Server streaming on a MAC computer, you cannot double click the player window to maximize it. Workaround: None for MAC servers For other MAC systems, right-click the player window and select Full screen If an archive is not uploaded to an external server that you configured, the Viewer Portal shows that you can play this archive, but you cannot play this archive because RealPresence Capture Server cannot find this archive on the external server When you play an archive on RealPresence Capture Server Viewer Portal, the video stops playing when you double click while in full-screen mode. Workaround: Don t double click in full screen mode. Press Esc key to exit full-screen mode Detecting server address function cannot validate IPv6 IP address in System Config > IP Settings. VRR 3397 If you had RealPresence Capture Server power off during recording, customized VRRs will change to default VRRs after reboot. Others 2731 When an endpoint is connected to RealPresence Capture Server, the system name doesn t work if it contains Chinese. Workaround: Call a Polycom HDX IPV4 address Sometimes, if your browser is Windows Internet Explorer 9, Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome, the browser hangs when you try to view MP4-format archives from RealPresence Capture Server s Viewer portal. Workaround: Call a Polycom HDX IPV4 address. Polycom, Inc
Interoperability Your Polycom RealPresence Capture Server systems are tested extensively with a wide range of products. The tables in this sectiondo not list a complete inventory of compatible equipment; the table only list the products that have been tested for compatibility. Video conferencing systems use a variety of algorithms to compress audio and video. In a call between two systems, each end transmits audio and video using algorithms supported by the other end. In some cases, a system may transmit a different algorithm than it receives. This process occurs because each system independently selects the optimum algorithms for a particular call, and different products may make different selections. This process does not affect the quality of the call.
