1 Roa, 10 September 2014 TWELVE ELITE JOURNALISTS PARTICIPATE IN THE I TEMPRANILLO RIBERA DEL DUERO MASTERS The Regulatory Council offers these professionals with sufficient training so that they will receive an accreditation as "experts and ambassadors of Ribera del Duero". Today and until next Friday 12th September, twelve journalists of international standing shall receive exclusive training about wines and wine cellars of Ribera del Duero in the I Tempranillo Masters organised by the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin. A brilliant group of students from eleven countries and that compile a group of standing professionals in the field of specialised information, with brilliant careers, whom carry out their activity in different media as authors of books and collaborators in varying important publications. The journalists invited to this I TEMPRANILLO RIBERA DEL DUERO MASTERS are: - SARAH JANE EVANS MW (United Kingdom): She is vice president of the prestigious Institute of Masters of Wine, one of the most respected figures in the United Kingdom. She is a writer, journalist and an expert on Spanish wine. - SOFÍA ANDER (Switzerland): collaborating journalist for the magazine Världens Viner. She also writes for the DinVinGuide. She is also a wine waiter and specialist in Spanish wine. - CHARLOTTE VAN ZUMMEREN (Holland): journalist and writer with an important professional career who carries out her work with the publications Winelife, Taste, Telegraaf and Weekmedia.

2 - YASUYUKI UKITA (Japan): journalist specialised in wine, gastronomy and lifestyle. They have written several books and collaborated with a vast range of media throughout the world. - THOMAS VATERLAUS (Switzerland): a renowned journalist specialised in lifestyle for the newspapers Weltwoche, Sonntags-Zeitung, etc. He is also a writer since 1995 for the publication Vinum. - MARIETTE TIEDEMANN (Denmark): Journalist and owner of Vinivesen, a wellrenowned wine cellar that has the most visited online sales space in Denmark. Collaborator with the publication V in A ballad, as well as writing in other specialised media like Food & Friends. In 2008 she opened "Wine for Beginners". - ANDRÉ DOMINE (Germany): German journalist and writer settled in France, one of the most respected authors specialised in the subject worldwide. Author of "El Vino", a work of reference. He collaborates with different media throughout the world. - FRANK SMULDERS MW (Holland): He currently manages the wine list and all of the activity related with wine at the exclusive Coburg Palace of Vienna, which has a wine cellar with more than 60,000 references. In addition to the teaching and dissemination work he undertakes and which he is dedicated to as a Master of Wine, he organises study trips to different wine regions for both professionals and students.

3 - DOUG FROST MW (United States of America): Wine consultant for United Airlines. He writes in various publications, amongst which are The Oxford Companion to Wine, Tom Stevenson's Wine Report, San Francisco Chronicle and Wine & Spirits. He has published several books: Uncorking Wine (1996), On Wine (2001) and Far From Ordinary Spanish Wine Buying Guide (2005). - ROMAIN BATYA (Luxembourg): journalist and photographer specialised in wine. Editor of the Vinalu online magazine. Member of the Circle of Writers about wine in London. - NICHOLAS SIU (Hong Kong): prestigious journalist and writer, director of Cru Magazine. - PEDRO BALLESTEROS MW (Spain): A wine lover and one of the two Masters of Wine of Spanish nationality. Pedro Ballesteros has worked as a consultant in environmental matters for different institutions and he currently works for the European Commission. Elected Board Member of the Institute of Masters of Wine. Columnist for various publications and judge at international competitions. The I Tempranillo Ribera del Duero Masters has been initiated this morning at the headquarters of the Regulatory Council. The President of the Designation of Origin, Enrique Pascual, welcomed the students that were to subsequently be immersed in an intense training program that combines theory and practice. For three days they will attend talks, wine tasting sessions, visits to wine cellars as well as having the chance to enjoy the local gastronomy and heritage.

4 From the purely theory-based activities we can highlight the conferences "Climatic, soil and local characteristics of Ribera de Duero" or "Marketing and international recognition of Ribera de Duero wines and their international impact". The group will also visit wine cellars of the Designation of Origin in order to learn about them in situ, in terms of the characteristics of the vineyards and the peculiarities of the wine making process for Ribera de Duero wines. The participants of the I Tempranillo Masters will also be immersed in the Ribera del Duero wines. They will do so by participating in two master wine tasting sessions given by Pedro Ballesteros, the master of Spanish wine: the wine tasting session Three names in one, sub-regions and native lands ; and the session Great vintage wines of Ribera de Duero. The sessions will be carried out at the Wine Tasting Room of the Regulatory Council and at the Museum of Wine in Peñafiel. Upon completing this exclusive training program, these twelve elite journalists will receive the recognition of the Tempranillo Masters, an accreditation that is granted by the Regulatory Council acknowledging them as experts and ambassadors of the wines and wine cellars of Ribera del Duero.
