8 Course Levels Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) Chichester College teaches English across the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). This outline of levels was designed as a framework of reference to guide teachers and students through the assessment of language proficiency. LEVEL CHICHESTER COLLEGE LEVEL DESCRIPTION EXAMPLE EXAM A1 ELEMENTARY Student can understand familiar daily and useful expressions as well as basic phrases. Student can interact with another by introducing themselves and asking and answering basic questions as long as the other person speaks slowly and clearly. Anglia Preliminary A2 PRE- INTERMEDIATE Student can communicate and understand simple sentences and expressions. Student can also describe simple events, environment around them and aspects of their background to another. Anglia Elementary & Pre-Intermediate B1 INTERMEDIATE Student can understand familiar matters in regular daily life as well as being able to create simple sentences describing experience, events and personal opinions. Anglia Intermediate Cambridge English PET B2 UPPER- INTERMEDIATE Student can understand more complex text and is able to communicate with a degree of fluency and explain their viewpoints on an array of topics. Anglia Advanced Cambridge English FCE C1 ADVANCED Student can understand more complicated and longer texts as well as express themselves fluently and produce clear and complex sentences. Throughout the course there is a strong emphasis on English for communication. Afternoon classes focus on the skills of listening, reading, writing and speaking. Students can also choose from afternoon options of Business, PET, FCE, CAE, CPE or IELTS exam preparation. 11 Afternoon Options for General English 21 Afternoon Options for General English 21 Students taking the General English 21 course can choose one of the following afternoon options* OPTION 1 English Extra English Extra is designed to take the grammar and vocabulary you have learned and bring it to life in a communicative classroom environment. The four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be developed through a wide variety of tasks and activities that put the student at the centre of the learning process. As well as practising the four skills, you will be supported and corrected where appropriate on the accuracy of your English. By the end of the course you should be a more fluent, accurate and confident user of English. OPTION 2 Business The Business option aims to provide an introduction to Business English. This option is for students who plan to study the subject further or who want to improve communication skills in the workplace. This option focuses on vocabulary and the day-to-day language of business such as negotiations, telephoning and written communications. Main topics include: types of businesses, marketing and promotions, and telephone etiquette, job searching and creating a CV. *Subject to availability and language level OPTION 3 Exam Preparation Exam Preparation classes include those for PET, FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS examinations. The classes will familiarise you with the structure of your exam. You will learn exam techniques alongside the grammar, vocabulary and skills needed to be successful. Registration fees for exams are not included in tuition prices. *Subject to availability and language level 11
12 Study Year Abroad Course: Study Year Abroad Duration: 1, 2 or 3 Terms Course: Study Year Abroad Choose either two A-Level academic subjects or one vocational subject combined with hours of English language learning. This is your opportunity to study academic or vocational subjects alongside UK students while improving your English and enjoying a true UK college experience. You can take part in over 26 leisure options with UK students including sports and social activities. Experience a dedicated international student social programme in addition to the UK student social programme. For maximum enjoyment, stay in the College residential accommodation and meet students from all over the world. 13 Study Year Abroad Course: Study Year Abroad Duration: 1, 2 or 3 Terms Academic Study Year All courses start 12th September and can be booked for 1, 2 or 3 terms. They can easily follow on from General English programmes. ** Will require portfolio assessment *** Must have previous study experience ****Must have high level of Mathematics Study two subjects with UK A-Level students and study English with other international students. The programme is designed to develop your academic subject knowledge and improve your English. It also allows a full UK study abroad experience. Choose the pair of subjects that best suit your interests and we will prepare your study timetable. To ensure quality of your study experience, pairs of subjects are limited, so apply early. They can easily follow on from General English programmes. Uniforms and kits required for course will be an additional cost. 14 Groups We offer bespoke courses to groups of students Please contact for a quote. Packages Chichester College group packages are based on a minimum of 15 students travelling together. We can offer a wide range of homestay accommodation to all students within the group. With different packages available, ranging from hours per week, we can provide bespoke programmes offering an array of subjects including: English for Business, English for Travel and Tourism, English for the Arts and many more. 14
15 Groups Bring a group to study English at a top UK college. They can learn English through a range of activities that will improve their grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, writing, speaking and listening while staying in homestay accommodation. Welfare Support As well as 24 hours support, all groups are given a designated staff member to create a fully inclusive package for their entire stay at Chichester College. Return transfers from London Gatwick or London Heathrow airport can also be arranged. Additional Options We can offer excursions to famous English cities, for example full-day excursions to London, Bath, Oxford, Windsor and Salisbury or half-day excursions to Portsmouth, Winchester, Brighton and Arundel castle. Prices are available upon application. Accommodation We can offer a wide range of homestay accommodation to all international students coming as a group. Accommodation is usually within walking distance of the College but some locations will require the student to catch a bus or train to and from the College. Travel time is no more than 30 minutes. 15

The teachers make English easy to learn and try to keep the classes entertaining. 21 Leisure Activities with UK Students Students have the opportunity to take part in over 26 leisure activities alongside UK students. These activities can help build on your academic programme or teach you new skills. Most importantly of all, they will provide you with the opportunity to mix, share ideas and practise your English with our UK students. Every Wednesday afternoon, students have the option to include leisure activities in their study programme. This is a great way to meet fellow international students as well as UK students. 22 Accommodation High quality student accommodation has never been easier to organise. The accommodation team can offer a wide range of accommodation to international students. The accommodation available is both comfortable and safe. All accommodation is closely monitored by the College and residential accommodation is regularly checked by external inspection bodies. The accommodation team will ensure that all full-time students, who require accommodation, are placed in the most appropriate accommodation available. Accommodation Team The accommodation team is on hand to provide all the help and advice you need. We can help you to make all the arrangements, so that moving into your new home is as quick and simple as possible. We will support our international students through all aspects of their time at the College and ensure that a safe and healthy environment is provided. What s Available With two on-campus halls of residence and a homestay option all year round, there is the perfect accommodation for every student. 23 Accommodation Woodlands Woodlands Woodlands halls of residence provides secure accommodation for 90 students aged 16-17yrs old at the time of admission. This on-campus student accommodation comprises of single and twin-bedded study bedrooms, some of which are en-suite. Shower and toilet facilities are situated on each floor. There is a full enrichment programme for all students. Woodlands has two common rooms and a reception area, large, widescreen TVs, pool tables, table tennis facilities, an Xbox, a Wii, karaoke equipment and communal areas are Wi-Fi enabled. Woodlands has its own cleaning and laundry staff and two laundry rooms with card-operated machines for students. Woodlands hall of residence provides catering to residents on a full-board basis, which is included in the accommodation price. Also included in the price of tuition is full access to the on-campus gym facilities. Woodlands is staffed 24 hours a day by trained supervisors. All communal corridors have been fitted with CCTV to create a positive and safe environment for all students. Student privacy remains a priority and there is a clear CCTV policy to ensure this. Woodlands students all attend one study session per week. This is designed to encourage and assist the achievement of all our students. 23
24 Accommodation Westgate 18+ Westgate Westgate halls of residence are for students who are aged 18 and over at the time of admission. Westgate has superb self-catering or full-board student accommodation options for 160 residents. All rooms are single and en-suite with some having been specifically designed to meet the needs of disabled students. Included in the price of tuition is full access to the on-campus gym facilities. There are shared kitchen facilities in the flats which accommodate six students. There are a variety of communal facilities including a communal common room with TV and DVD player as well as food and drink vending machines. Cooking utensils, crockery and bedding are not provided. This must be provided by the student. A bed pack containing a duvet, pillows and bed linen may be purchased from Westgate on arrival or can be ordered in advance. Self catering and full board are both available so please advise us of your choice when applying. Kitchen and communal areas are cleaned daily. Students are responsible for the cleaning of their own room and en-suite. Westgate halls of residence is a secure and safe building with a swipe card entry system for each block, flat and individual room. Westgate is open during holiday periods. 24
25 Accommodation Homestay 16+ Homestay Homestay is ideal for short-stay students who want to enjoy the traditional experience of living with a local family. Homestay means that you will live in a house with the owner and family. This accommodation is available to all students on full-time courses. Students in homestay accommodation can specify whether they wish to be in a smoking or non-smoking household and with or without pets or children. Half board Half-board homestay accommodation means that you live in a house with the owner and their family, having your breakfast and evening meal provided during the week and breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided at the weekend. Students share the facilities in the house with the rest of the occupants of the home. Laundry is included once a week in the price of your accommodation. Any extra laundry should be discussed with your homestay hosts. Self catering Self-catering homestay accommodation means that you live in a house with the owner and their family having the freedom of cooking for yourself. This student homestay accommodation is available to all students aged 17 years old and over on a full-time course. You will share the facilities in the house with the rest of the occupants. Laundry is also the student s responsibility, although the owner's facilities are usually available. 25
26 Student Support For all our students... We provide comprehensive welfare and support for all our students. Chichester College nurses are available on-site for all students, as are the College counsellors and the accommodation and international teams. Well-being support plans are completed by the College nurses, in conjunction with the accommodation staff, to ensure the best possible support is provided. We have an International Student Support Officer who works with our international students across the board if there are any concerns or questions on their courses. Supporting Our Students We strongly believe that all our students should be seen as individuals and that their physical and mental well-being is extremely important. The College has a safeguarding policy and designated safeguarding officers, as well as a college counselling service for those students who need confidential support. We are aware that many students suffer from homesickness at some point when away at college. For some this passes very quickly when they make new friends and find their feet on their course. Remember the staff in the College are there to listen and support you. Chichester College is proud of its excellent student support both prior to arrival and during their time at the College. 26

We have International Officers who travel around the world meeting with students and we may be able to set up a meeting in your home country. Please get an application form from our website and complete it in full. Then it back to us with the following: a copy of your passport, evidence of your level of English e.g. IELTS certificate, and your deposit. 3. College Offer 4. VISA On receipt of all of the above, we will send you a letter of acceptance confirming your place on the course and provide UK accommodation reservation details, if requested. If you have sent your deposit and met the entry requirements for your course, the acceptance will be Unconditional. We will provide supporting documents you can use to apply for your student visa. Should you need a visa, when you have been accepted at Chichester College, we will provide you with the relevant documents you need for a visa application. Our College complies fully with the UK Visa & Immigration (UKVI) guidelines for UK student visas. On their website you will be able to find out whether a UK student visa is applicable to you. 5. Payment You can pay your fees via our online PayToStudy website or directly to the College via a bank transfer. College admission staff will advise you when your payment is due and how best to pay. 6. Pre-arrival Inform the College when your visa is issued and confirm your arrival date. If you require a taxi transfer from the airport, this can be arranged at an additional cost. Host family details may not be available at the time of application but will be given to you at least two weeks before your arrival. 7. Arrival We will then give you a full induction on your first day at the College and place you into classes and provide you with a class schedule for your time at the College.
