2 Extract from EUROPEAN COMMISSION communication, 21 February 2013 European Technology Platforms 2020 Draft STRATEGY, European Technology Platforms are industry*-led stakeholder forums which elaborate strategic research and innovation agendas (SRAs) for action at EU and national level to be supported by both private and public funding. European Technology Platforms will be key players in the European innovation ecosystem, helping to turn Europe into an Innovation Union. This will require ETPs to identify the pathway to commercial deployment of research, provide strategic insights into market opportunities, and network with actors across the EU. The Commission's proposal for Horizon 2020 specifies the channels of external input for its annual Calls: next to taking into account the input from advisory groups, forward looking activities, public consultations and interactive research and innovation processes, the Commission undertakes to take full account of relevant aspects of the research and innovation agendas established by European Technology Platforms * (forest owners included)

10 Example: Vision Target 8 Wood-based construction in Europe has tripled its market share, from the 2010 level, reaching a turnover of 200 billion, whilst the overall added value of the woodworking industries has doubled. Increased value will come from new products and services, as well as more widespread use of energy-saving modular housing structures and functional furniture. 10
