2 All new starts on the programme as of July 2009 have been registered on the new 3008 scheme City & Guilds have kept the Candidate log books in the same format as the 3014 scheme Candidates are still required to achieve nine units to complete the full NVQ Level 2 Following consultation with employers perming has been selected as the one optional unit Introduction

GH= General The Mandatory units
4 Unit Number G4 G18 G8 GH13 GH14 GH15 Unit Title Fulfil salon reception duties Promote additional services Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work Plait and twist hair Perm and Neutralise hair Attach hair to enhance a style A consultation has taken place with employers and the vast majority have selected GH14 as the one they would most value in the NVQ; this is the unit the Academy will deliver as the optional unit. The Optional Units
5 This unit has two outcomes. As they are linked you can assess these outcomes at the same time. This unit is more relevant to the Level 2 candidate in their job role. You can no longer APA G1 across to these standards Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Identify the hazards and evaluate the risks in your workplace Reduce the risks to health & safety in your workplace G20 Make sure your own actions reduce the risks to health & safety
6 All evidence must be derived from performance in the workplace no simulation activities are specified. The outcome can be assessed using a range of assessment methods: 1 Direct observation of the candidate working 2 Witness testimony by colleagues and line managers 3 Documentary and other product based evidence 4 Personal report by the candidate - endorsed 5 Questions 6 Discussion 7 Professional discussion G20 Evidence requirements

8 This unit has three outcomes. As they are linked you can assess these outcomes at the same time. Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated over a sufficient period of time after 3 months, around 12 months and after 18 months Simulation is not allowed Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Establish effective rapport with clients Respond appropriately with clients Communicate information to clients G17 Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Identify what clients want Analyse the hair and scalp Advise your client and agree services and products Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated and observed in technical units Cut, Colour & Perm Simulation in not allowed G7 - Advise and consult with clients
11 Candidates are required to submit consultation sheets for each observed performance these can either be copied or referenced to the technical unit page where they can be located. The consultation sheet must have a date, the service, a client signature, an assessor signature and a candidate signature. It must be competed correctly. All service times must be recorded. Infections & Infestations may be oral questioned if so record responses on P48 CLB G7 - Advise and consult with clients
12 This unit has four outcomes. As they are linked you can assess these outcomes at the same time. Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Outcome 4 Maintain effective and safe methods of working when shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp Shampoo hair and scalp Condition and treat hair and scalp Provide aftercare advice (new) Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated and observed on three occasions GH8 Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
13 This unit has four outcomes. As they are linked you can assess these outcomes at the same time. Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Outcome 4 Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated and observed on at least seven occasions No simulation is allowed GH9 Change hair colour Maintain effective and safe methods of working when colouring and lightening hair Prepare for colouring and lightening hair Colour and lighten hair Provide aftercare advice
14 Specific changes to the hair colouring unit are: There is no longer the need to assess temporary colorants Lighteners must be bleach products not hi-lift tint There is no virgin head application Pulled through hi-lights can be a minimum of 20%, can be pulled through an easimeche with holes in it Aftercare is a new element GH9 Change hair colour
15 This unit has five outcomes. As they are linked you can assess some of these outcomes at the same time. Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Outcome 4 Outcome 5 Maintain effective and safe methods of working when styling and finishing hair Blow dry hair into shape Finger dry hair into shape Finish hair Provide aftercare advice Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated and observed on at least three occasions GH10 - Style and finish hair
16 The following outcomes can be assessed together: Outcomes 1,2,4 and 5 or Outcomes 1,3,4 and 5 Turn to pages CLB to review the ranges for this unit: Products Heated styling equipment Hair Factors Blow drying tools and equipment Blow dry finishes Advice GH10 Style and finish hair
17 This unit has four outcomes. As they are linked you can assess some of these outcomes at the same time. Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Outcome 4 Maintain effective working methods when setting and dressing hair Set hair Dress hair Provide aftercare advice Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated and observed on at least three occasions GH11 Set and dress hair
18 This unit has three outcomes. As they are linked you can observe these outcomes at the same time. Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Maintain effective and safe methods of working when cutting hair Cut hair to achieve a variety looks Provide aftercare advice Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated and observed on at least two occasions for each look (cut) This is a total of eight observations GH12 Cutting hair
19 This unit has four outcomes. As they are linked you can observe all four outcomes at the same time. Outcome 1 Outcome 2 Outcome 3 Outcome 4 Maintain safe working methods when perming and neutralising hair Prepare for perming and neutralising Perm and neutralise hair Provide aftercare advice Evidence requirements all must be practically demonstrated and observed on at least three occasions A minimum of two to be carried out on full heads GH14 Perm and neutralise hair
20 Please make sure the candidate achieves the outcome in within a commercially viable time: Service Shampoo, condition and/or treat hair - above shoulders (excluding development time) Mins 10 Shampoo, condition and/or treat hair below shoulders (excluding development time) 15 Set and dress hair above shoulders (excluding drying) 35 Set and dress hair below shoulders (excluding drying) 45 Blow dry and finish hair above shoulders 35 Blow dry and finish hair below shoulders 45 Cut hair only 45 Mix and apply colour re-growth, permanent colour 25 Pulled through highlites/lowlights (inc prep and application) full head 35 Service times
21 Service Pulled through highlights/lowlights (inc prep and application) - at least 20% of head Woven highlights/lowlights (inc prep and application) - full head 75 Perm (winding only) 45 Mins Some of these times have been increased and this will benefit the learner greatly. Remember that these new times are applicable to the new 3008 standards; candidates on 3014 will be required to complete in the services in the times stated in the 3014 CLB. Please ensure that service times are recorded for all of the above services in the comments section of each unit observations will not be valid without a service time. 15 Service times continued
