1 Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS Integration Guide Step-by-step instructions for adding Exterity Live TV & Video On-Demand to Cisco DMS components March 2011 This document provides steps for integrating live TV and recorded video MPEG streams from Exterity IPTV equipment with Cisco s Digital Media Suite (DMS). Integration with the following Cisco DMS modules is included in this document: Cisco Cast Cisco Show and Share Cisco Digital Signs This document refers to Digital Media Suite Version 5.2.

2 Definitions DMS DMM DMP VoD RTSP Head-end equipment Digital Media Suite Digital Media Manager Digital Media Player Video on-demand Real Time Streaming Protocol Refers to Exterity Encoders, TVgateways and AvediaServers Assumptions This document assumes that Cisco Digital Media Manager has already been setup and configured appropriately, including the setup of Digital Media Players. It is also assumed that an Exterity IPTV system is in place and steaming live TV and/or recorded video from one or more Encoders, TVgateways or AvediaServers. The IPTV administrator should have made note of the multicast (or unicast) addresses related to the streams produced by the Exterity equipment. These will be used to create Channels and Assets in the Cisco DMM. 3 Cisco Cast Integration Configuring Cisco Cast to use live TV or video channels streaming from Exterity headend equipment. Setting Up Live TV for Cisco Cast Step 1: From the admin page click Cast Step 2: Click TV Channels > Set Up Channel Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 3

4 Step 3: Fill in the Channel Form with the following mandatory information: 1. Your Name for this Channel (any name) 2. Address Type: Multicast 3. Multicast Address: port ( x.x:5000) 4. Click Add a Channel Note: It is impossible to add more than one channel at the time. To add additional channels repeat step 3 for each channel. Now that the channel is configured, it must be deployed to the Digital Media Player(s). Step 4: Click Schedules > Play Now > Select an Event Type > and choose Cast from the dropdown menu. 5 Step 5: Select the DMP(s) to receive the stream by clicking on the appropriate DMP icon (use Shift or Control to select more than one DMP) and click Submit. Note: If no DMP has been added to the DMM previously, the section containing ALL DMPs will be empty. You will need to add DMPs to your DMM if this section is empty. Step 6: Verify the stream has been added successfully by viewing Cast on a display screen which is connected to one of your DMPs. Note: Each time you alter or add a channel(s) to Cast you will need to repeat steps 4 and 5 for Cast to recognize the channels. DMP does not refresh the channel list automatically (there is no SAP announcement or other alert mechanism). Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 5

6 Setting Up VoD for Cisco Cast Instructions for setting up the VoD module of Cisco Cast using Digital Media Manager with VoD assets stored on Exterity AvediaServer. Cisco DMP units play assets in MPEG-2 Transport Stream format located on Exterity AvediaServer. Note: DMP does not support RTSP protocol which means the user cannot control the stream. The stream can be only started and stopped using a DMP remote control, and DMP does not support any trick-play functions (forward, reverse, pause, etc.). Enabling VoD functionality on Cast requires several steps which can be divided into two main tasks: A. Adding VoD assets to the Media Library B. Mapping Videos to Categories Prerequisites 1. Cisco DMS and DMP set up 2. All assets ready for deployment stored on AvediaServer and VoD enabled A. 7 Step 2: Click Add Media Asset Step 3: Select URL and type IP address>/<path to the file> (The URL for the AvediaServer VOD assets can be found in the XML feed here IP address >/vod) Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 7

8 Step 4: Type the asset Title. (You may choose to make the asset title different than the asset title/name used on AvediaServer.) Choose Asset Type > Video. If you already have categories created in Cisco Cast, map the asset to the appropriate category(s). To create categories and map assets to them, see the next section on Mapping Video to Categories. B. Mapping Video Assets to Categories Step 1: Having added your asset in the previous section, now go to the Cast tab > Video on Demand Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 8

9 Step 2: Create a new category by selecting Actions > Create a Category, or choose to use an existing category. Step 3: After you have created your category or decided to use an existing one, click the category name and select Map Videos to Category. Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 9

10 Step 4: Choose the asset you would like to use and drag it into the window below. To accept, click Submit Mapping. Step 5: When all your assets are mapped to the appropriate categories you are ready to deploy Cast. Step 6: Click Schedules > Play Now > Select an Event Type > and choose Cast from the dropdown menu. Step 7: Select the DMP by clicking on the DMP (use Shift or Control to select more than one DMP) and click Submit. Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 10

11 Note: If no DMP has been added previously to the DMM the ALL DMPs section will be empty. You must add DMPs to your DMM first. Step 8: Verify the integration is working by viewing the VoD on a display screen which is connected to one of your DMPs. Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 11

12 Cisco Show & Share Integration How to enable PC users to view live TV and videos streaming from Exterity head-end equipment via Show and Share Step 1: Purchase and install the Exterity AvediaPlayer Plugin on all PCs that will need to view MPEG streams available via Show and Share. Install per the manufacturer provided instructions. For more information visit Step 2: Use a text editor such as Notepad to create a new document. Step 3: Create the following text in the new Notepad document. <ASX version="3"> <Entry> <ref href="exterity://<multicast address of the encoded stream>:<port number of the encoded stream>" /> </Entry> </ASX> Step 4: Save the text file with a.asx extension. 13 Step 6: Create a Video Title and Browse to the.asx file created in steps 2-4 and click Go To Publish Page to upload the video. Step 7: Click Publish to complete the addition of the video to Show and Share. Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 13

14 Step 8: Now any user PC with Exterity AvediaPlayer Plugin installed can use Cisco Show and Share to view Live TV and video streams from Exterity Encoders, TVgateways and AvediaServers. Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 14

15 Digital Signs Integration How to add live TV or video streaming from Exterity head-end equipment to Cisco Digital Signs. Step 1: In the Cisco Digital Signs module go to Digital Signage > Presentations and open the Digital Media Designer tool by clicking Start Digital Media Designer. Step 2: A new window will open. Select Playlist and Click All Media Types. Double click the All Media Playlist. A new window will open. Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 15

16 Step 3: Click Add URL Step 4: Create a Title for your multicast TV/video and enter the URL of the multicast steam. The format for the URL field should be udp://<multicast>:<port>. For example, udp:// :5000. Add the stream by clicking OK. Step 5: Click OK to close the window Exterity IPTV & Cisco DMS v5.2 Integration Guide 16

17 Step 6: Once you have finished designing your Digital Signage presentation, select File > Save. Provide a name, select the Presentation radio button and Save.
