2 Introduction This document is a guide to integrating a Rako Lighting system with an RTI control system, via a Rako Ethernet bridge. The driver modules were written and tested using Integration Designer running on a XP-6 control processor, firmware version (Bootloader: 1.5). The Rako Bridge Module was at firmware version The driver version is currently v1.3. Rako Configuration The Rako lighting system must first be programmed using the RaSoft software and tested by a suitably experienced engineer. All Rako dimmers, relays and blinds are supported, provided that a Rako Ethernet Bridge is used as the communication device. All configuration must be stored on the bridge in order for the driver to successfully control the system. NOTE: RS232 control is not currently supported. RTI Configuration Add the driver to your project Extract the content of the zip file package to a location on your computer. Open your RTI Integration Designer System file (or, alternatively, open the example file packaged with the driver entitled Rako_Lighting.rti) by double clicking on the file. Click on the RTI control processor icon (e.g. XP-6) in the System Workspace area to display the Control System window. A green circle will be displayed below the processor icon in the System Workspace, denoting the current selection. Click on the Drivers tab of the Control System window and check the Loaded Drivers list. If the driver JanusRako is not listed, select the Add Driver icon and browse to the JanusRako.rtidriver file on your PC and select Open to add the file to your system. The JanusRako driver should be displayed as in the Loaded Drivers list. Select the driver and the configuration settings will be displayed. Page 2 of 9

The Rako Bridge Module was at firmware version 1.8.3. The driver version is currently v1.3. Rako Configuration The Rako lighting system must first be programmed using the RaSoft software and tested by a suitably experienced engineer.

3 Configuration Settings System Settings The Processor is set as the Default Master. Rako Enter the IP Address of the Rako Bridge on your network. Choose Device > Save to save your changes. Adding a command to a button There are a number of commands available in the driver that can be added to a button. To add a command : Choose your remote from the System Workplace, right click on the button or text field you wish to add a command to and select Edit Properties. Select the Driver Command tab and click the arrow button to display the available commands for JanusRako. You can now choose a command from the following categories: Lights Control (Current Room) Rako lights are addressed by their Room and Channel number. The Current Room controls allow you to specify a room number as the room to be controlled and then just send channel specific commands until a different room number is specified. Room Functions (Current Room) All Rako devices in a particular room will be controlled with these commands : Raise/Lower, Scene Selection and Store Current Scene. Blinds Control Rako Blinds are addressed by their Room and Channel number. The blinds can be moved up or down and stopped. Scene 3 is currently used as the Stop scene. Lights Control Rako lights are addressed by their Room and Channel number. The lights can be switched on and off or toggled; levels can be set to a value between and the levels can be raised or lowered. Room Functions All Rako devices in a particular room will be controlled with these commands : Raise/Lower, Scene Selection and Store Current Scene. Holiday Mode Holiday mode commands: record and playback, can be used to store a sequence of lighting events and replay them to replicate normal lighting usage. Macro Control Macros configured and stored on the Rako Bridge using the RaSoft software can be run from RTI remote controls with Macro commands. The user can start, pause, continue and stop macros. 4 light levels displayed by RTI may not be correct as level feedback is not transmitted from the Rako bridge to the RTI control processor. In the example shown below, the Scene 1 button driver command is being set to Scene Selection : Room 1, All Channels and Scene 1. If this button is pressed, all Rako devices in Room 1 will be set to Scene 1. Adding a display variable to a button There are a number of variables available in the driver allowing your controller to display information about the Rako system. To add a display variable to a button: Choose your remote from the System Workplace, right click on the button or text field you wish to add a variable and select Edit Text. Choose Insert Control Variable and select the variable you wish to display. To add a variable to modify the state of a button: Choose your remote from the System Workplace, right click on the button or text field you wish to add a variable and select Edit Properties Select the Variables tab and click the arrow button for the button state you wish to change. All Rako variables available are listed under JanusRako. Page 4 of 9

If this button is pressed, all Rako devices in Room 1 will be set to Scene 1.

5 You can now choose a command from the following categories: Holiday Mode The Holiday Mode variables are Holiday Mode Recording and Holiday Mode Playback. These variables are boolean and can be used to change the appearance of a button, depending on the on or off state. Rooms X Load Status Room x Channel y load status variables are boolean, denoting on or off. The Room Load Status variable can be used to change the state of a toggle button. Rooms X Scene Active Room x Channel y scene active variables are boolean, denoting on or off. The Room Scene Active variable can be used to change the appearance of a button on a remote control. The below example shows the Scene 1 button set to display in reversed state, when Room 1 Scene 1 is active: Page 5 of 9

Rooms X Load Status Room x Channel y load status variables are boolean, denoting on or off. The Room Load Status variable can be used to change the state of a toggle button.

6 Adding a Driver event Driver events can be used so that an event in Rako can be used to trigger a macro in RTI. The Rako Driver Room events available are Scene X Selected, Fade Up, Fade Down and Stop. Driver events may be added to the RTI system by using the steps described below. First, you must create the macro that the driver even is to trigger (note: if no macros appear in the System Macros list, it will not be possible to add a new Event). Select the Events tab of the Control System window in Integration Designer. Click on Add Event and a drop-down menu will be displayed. Select Add Driver Event and the Driver Event Details window will be shown. Click on the Event arrow button and select the room/event you wish to use. Each room in the system has a list of available driver events. Finally, select the RTI macro you wish to associate with your chosen event from the macro drop-down menu. Page 6 of 9

7 Test Harness - Virtual Panel A Rako Lighting virtual panel has been included with the driver to aid testing/integration. Select the virtual panel (entitled Rako Lighting ) in the System Workspace area to view the features. This virtual panel can be used for testing only, or can be modified to suit the requirements of the Rako devices in your rooms. All changes must be saved before downloading to file and running the virtual panel. Page 7 of 9

8 Downloading the driver to your RTI processor Select the Save icon to ensure all current changes have been saved. Then, Select the Send File icon and the Devices in the current system window will be displayed. The device status will be either Up To Date or Needs Updating. Select the target programming method, Ethernet or USB and press the Send button. After the file has been downloaded to the control processor successfully, its status will be updated to Up To Date. The Rako Lighting Virtual Panel file can be updated and created by selecting its associated Send button. Page 8 of 9

9 Troubleshooting No control of the Rako system is possible from RTI Check that both systems are connected to the network and functioning correctly independently. Check the IP address field of the Rako Bridge driver properties contains the correct IP address for the Rako bridge. Check that the correct room and channel numbers have been entered for your Rako devices. Check that the configuration of the Rako system has been uploaded to the Rako bridge. Try restarting the RTI processor and/or updating the Rako driver. RTI Light levels displayed are not correct When using macros, light levels for devices may not be updated and so displayed levels may not be correct. Unfortunately, light level information is not received from the bridge when macros are used. If the light is controlled by the RTI remote, its light level will be updated correctly. Page 9 of 9

Check that the correct room and channel numbers have been entered for your Rako devices. Check that the configuration of the Rako system has been uploaded to the Rako bridge.
