3 Societal Challenge 5: Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials The objective to achieve a resource and water efficient and climate change resilient economy and society the protection and sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems a sustainable supply and use of raw materials Waste and water have been selected particular priorities (focus areas) substantial potential for business opportunities and job creation tackling important resource efficiency challenges Specific efforts to encourage SME participation SME instrument and bottom up approaches innovation actions

4 Societal Challenge 5:Calls Five calls with overall indicative budget 338 million (2014 budget) and 386 million (2015 budget) Waste: a resource to recycle, reuse and recover raw materials: 7 calls, 59 (2014) + 58 million (2015) Water innovation: Boosting its value for Europe: 5 calls, million Growing on a low carbon, resource efficient economy with a sustainable supply of raw materials: 20 calls, million Blue growth: unlocking the potential of the oceans: 4 calls, million Energy-efficiency: 1 call, 5 million Disaster-resilience: safeguarding and securing society, including adapting to climate change: 3 calls, million

5 Call waste: a resource to recycle, reuse and recover raw material The whole production and consumption cycle Boost innovative, environmentally-friendly and cross-sectoral waste prevention and management solutions Supports different EU initiatives and contributes to the Resource Efficiency Road Map Voices (six thematic areas, see WP) Public-Private Partnerships on Sustainable Process Industries (SPIRE PPP) Bio-Based Industries Use data resulting from or made available though different initiative of European Commission (GEOSS, Copernicus, ESA) are encouraged Participation on pilot call on Open research data is expected in some calls

8 Waste calls open 2014 WASTE : Recycling of raw materials from products and buildings Facilitate the market uptake of solutions developed through industriallydriven multidisciplinary consortia Address only one of the two issues mentioned in the WP Develop solutions at the technology readiness levels (TRL) 5-6 Aim e.g. increased range and yields of recovered material and energy efficiency reduced environmental footprint contributing to achieving objectives of the EIP on raw materials Research and innovation EU contribution ~ 6-8 million Call budget 14.5 million Deadline

9 Waste calls open 2014 WASTE /2015: Towards near-zero waste at European and global level To address only one of the three issues (2014) a) An EU near-zero waste stakeholder platform Strategic research and innovation agenda for waste prevention and management in the EU (ICT) b) Global waste dimension International cooperation (Rio+20,UNEP s Global Partnership on waste Management, Africa) c) Raw materials partnership Implementation of the EIP on Raw Materials (EU contrib. 2.5 million ) Impacts e.g. improved knowledge and metrics on specific waste streams and waste management methods and technologies in Europe (issues a & b) CSA, up to one project per sub-topic shall be funded (a & b) Call budget 4.5 million (a-c topics) Deadline

11 Water calls open 2014 WATER /2015: Integrated approaches to water and climate change Four issues, one issue The water cycle under future climate open proposals should aim to four targets mentioned in the WP Impact core efficient management of water resources in Europe contribution to management planning across the EU (the Blueprint to safeguard Europe s water resources, the EU Climate Change Adaptation Strategy, and the relevant priority areas of the EIP water) contribution in the longer-term to the development of reliable climate services in relation to the water cycle Research and innovation action EU contribution ~6-8 million Call budget 13 million Deadlines: first stage , second stage

12 Call Growing a Low Carbon, Resource Efficient Economy with a Sustainable Supply of Raw Materials This call forms part of an overall focus on investing in innovation for a green economy The innovation actions in this call are expected to offer particular opportunities to SMEs, together with the dedicated SME Instrument topic Actions will focus on six actions (and cross challenge topics) Publication date is Deadlines vary between topics and are presented in the WP Overall indicative budget is 166 million (2014 budget), and 189 million (2015 budget). Indicative budgets for topics are presented in the WP
