20 FTI Pilot -What is it? Title of the presentation Date # The FTI pilot is the only fully-bottom-up measure in Horizon 2020 promoting close-to-the-market innovation activities that is open to all types of participants

23 Eurostars Supports collaboration between research and innovative SMEs at a European level Can address any technology area, but must aim to develop a new product, process or service with a civilian purpose Projects must involve at least two participants from two different Eurostars member countries Academics and large companies welcome to participate in projects but must fund themselves Funding available: up to 360k per UK partner, 60% of eligible costs (75% for SMEs) Currently closed, next call deadline 5th March 2015

24 Smart grants Launched in April 2011, building on earlier schemes run by RDAs Single-company grants for proof of market projects, proof of concept or development of prototypes UP to a maximum of 250,000 Purely for SMEs: around 90% are small or micro companies and 80% are less than 5 years old Evaluation of the previous schemes showed they returned an additional GVA of 9 per 1 spent

Helps the public sector to access novel ideas and work with innovative companies Helps SMEs to engage with the public sector Gives companies a lead customer and a route to market Used by many Government departments and other bodies Over 189m of contracts awarded since 2010
