1 Windows 7, Internet Explorer 8, and RE/Xplorer If you have a computer running Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 8, and you would like to configure it so RE/Xplorer will work properly, please follow these instructions. These are the same instructions that you need to follow if you are using Internet Explorer 8 as your web browser on a Windows XP or Vista computer. If you also use Paragon, running the Paragon System Checker will take care of a lot of these settings. You may want to run that first, then go back through this guide just to double check that your computer is set up correctly for both REX and Paragon. Close all running programs and get back to the desktop. Right click the My Computer icon, and left click Properties. If you do not have a My Computer icon, go to the Start menu and you will find it there. Click Advanced System Settings (on the left), and then click on the Settings button within the Performance section of the System Properties window.

2 Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then put a dot in front of Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:. Click on the Add button. Click on the drop down arrow next to Look In (at the top of the window) and browse to your local hard drive. Then double click on the Program Files folder, and search within it for Internet Explorer. If you have a 64 bit version of Windows, look for the Program Files(x86) folder, rather than Program Files. That will allow you to configure the correct (32 bit) version of Internet Explorer. Double click the Internet Explorer folder, and then double click on the iexplorer.exe file. You will get a Data Execution Prevention warning box click OK.

3 You have just added Internet Explorer to the list of programs that will not be subject to data execution prevention. This is necessary in order for RE/Xplorer to run properly. Click the Apply button, and then click OK to close the window. Close all open windows and return to your desktop. You may be required to reboot your computer after turning off DEP for Internet Explorer. If so, continue with these instructions after the reboot is completed. Open Internet Explorer and go to This will open the RE/Xplorer Support page that is provided by LPS (formerly called Fidelity). Click on the RE/Xplorer 2.x IE8 Setup button at the bottom of the list. You can ignore all of the steps until you get down to number 15 we covered all of those steps in the first half of this manual. Click the link in Step 15.

4 Click Run in the security warning window. Click Run on the second security warning. Click OK on the IE8 setup utility window. Click OK on the REX Message confirmation window.

5 Make sure that RE/Xplorer is added as a trusted site within Internet Explorer, and that the level of your trusted sites zone is set properly. From any Internet Explorer window, go to Tools> Internet Options. Click the Security tab, highlight Trusted Sites, and click Sites. Make sure there is no check in Require server verification (https) for all sites in this zone. Enter *.rexplorer.net in the field at the top of the window and click Add. Click the Close button to get back to the Trusted Sites tab.

6 Click the Default level button toward the bottom right this will give you a scroll bar on the left side of the window. Drag the bar down to Low. Put a check in the Enable Protected Mode checkbox. Click Apply. Click the Advanced tab (in the top right of the Internet Options window) and scroll down to the bottom of the checklist. About 10 boxes up from the bottom, there is a checkbox for Enable memory protection to help mitigate online attacks remove the check from this box. If the entry is grayed out and you are not able to remove the check, you will need to run Internet Explorer as an administrator. Close Internet Explorer, go to the Start menu, right click Internet Explorer in the list of programs, and click Run as administrator. Click Yes on the User Account Control pop up window to allow Internet Explorer to be run as an administrator. Now go back to Tools> Internet Options> Advanced tab and remove the check in the enable memory protection checkbox at the bottom of the list. RE/Xplorer should now be fully compatible with Internet Explorer 8 and/or Windows 7.
