We have an I SPY Winter Sparkles cabinet set up for young ones to try to find various items. Even if you have already looked for items, the list has changed, so come and have another look and see what else is new in the cabinet! There will still be Easy and Hard levels. Find all the items, check them off and enter our draw to win a great prize! Contest Ends February 28th, We offer a Seniors Bookmobile twice a month at the Heritage Tower. 3 PROGRAMS BOOK CLUB Please join us Wednesday, February 4 th at 6:30pm Discussion will be on January s selection, The Good Luck of Right Now by Matthew Quick The club is open to new members. Members can join us on our Facebook Group, Peace River Book Club at: prmlibrarybookclub/ LUNCH & LEARN Take your lunch break from work with us! Stop by with your lunch on the second Wednesday each month from 12:10 12:50pm. Each month, the Big Asset Development (BAD) Committee will be introducing a speaker from within our community to discuss topics relevant to or services available in our area. On February 11 th, Sharon of Stepping Up will be discussing Understanding the complexities that make up our own colourful cultures and the tapestries of those around us.

4 With Ashlyn February12 th and 26 th 5-6 pm Learn the basics of Zentangling, to help you focus, relax or just for fun! This is a 4 session class that runs the second and fourth Thursday in January and February. We have the basic supplies available, but you can bring your own for your use if you like. 5 JOURNAL FRIENDS February 25 th 4 6 pm Register now for our newest FREE program in partnership with the Peace River Regional Women s Shelter. Learn Art Journal techniques and chat with Reiza! Discussion will focus on the promotion of healthy friendships. Journals and snacks will be provided. This is a 6 session program intended for youth ages and will be held the last Wednesday of each month January through June. Registration is required and we have space for 15. Attendance at every session is encouraged but not mandatory.

From January 20 th through March 31 st, join us here every day at the Library (open hours only )to get fit! Improve your strength, endurance and balance by taking on NEW FITNESS CHALLENGES. Borrow a pedometer (we have several here) and go on the hunt for interesting FITNESS FACTS & CHALLENGES. Track your progress and see how fit you can get over the coming weeks. 13 ART GALLERY Peace of Art presents: Infinity An evening of visual and performance art Gallery Opening February 5 th 6-8pm Library Board Meetings The public is invited to observe as the Library Board members discuss the Peace River Municipal Library operations. 14 We are looking for New Library Board Members!. Public library boards have five primary roles: 1. Advocate for the library and library users. To be a library advocate is to work for the betterment of library services for everyone in our communities. Advocacy includes working to obtain adequate funding for the library; pursuing opportunities to meet and speak with community groups; presenting library items to the mayor and town council; making sure the community s needs and interests are paramount when making board decisions. 2. Planning for the future of the library. Planning is one of the most important trusts that the community gives to the library board. Planning is deciding what is going to happen with library services over the next few years. Determining the direction of the library through service responses and insuring that it is responsive to what our community needs. 3. Oversee the effectiveness of the library. The community puts its trust in the library board to make sure the library is operating the way it should. The board monitors financial reports and approves all expenditures. The board reviews and approves the annual report for the Library Services Branch of Municipal Affairs which includes a survey of library user satisfaction levels with the services received from the library. 4. Set library policies. (Policy is a carefully designed, broadly stated written guideline for actions and decisions of the library.) The library board spends much of its time on policy issues - developing policies to meet the changing operational needs of the library. Once adopted by the board, library staff carries out the policies on a day-to-day basis. 5. Work with the director, respecting each other s roles. The board oversees and works with the director to ensure effective management of staff and resources for consistent operations and in the best interests of those the library serves.
