5 Alpiq Commerce & Trading in Western Europe The Alpiq Business Division Commerce & Trading is active in more than 25 markets in Europe. Our commercial offer includes individual power and gas products on full and strategic supply for utilities, resellers, large industrial customers and small medium enterprises in West and Central East and South East Europe. We trade standardised products including base, peak, off-peak, blocks and single hours as well as structured products such as swings, virtual power plants (VPP), hourly options and spread options in the area of electricity, gas, emission rights and environmental certificates. We trade at all European energy exchanges and gas hubs. Our asset traders operate a successful trading business that benefits from the flexibility of Alpiq s assets. These assets include power plants in Switzerland, Italy, France and Spain as well as storage capacities and long-term contracts. We are proud of being the number one in cross-border trading in Central Eastern and South Eastern Europe. 7 Our Gas and Multicommodities team is the knowledge centre for the gas, oil, coal and CO 2 markets within Alpiq Natural Gas and Multicommodities We gather fundamental and technical information and gain an understanding of all relevant markets through our intensive trading activities. Core competences We trade gas, oil, coal and cross commodities on the wholesale European energy markets. We develop strategies, using advanced fundamental and technical analysis, leveraging our in-depth understanding of the interaction between power and the other commodity markets. We manage a European gas supply portfolio for the Alpiq Group and generate revenue through optimisation of multicommodity asset positions. We implement physical supply strategies for thermal power plants and manage their financial risks. Gas solutions for you Alpiq is constantly expanding its European footprint in the gas sector. We have both a local presence and close relationships with our clients, while sharing the benefits of using Alpiq s swift, flexible and efficient resources. We can provide you with multi-commodity energy solutions in the major Western and Eastern European gas market areas including Switzerland. Together with our customers we define the appropriate risk profile and search for the optimal procurement option in terms of volume and price structure. Midstream gas activities With its portfolio positions in transportation and storage across Europe, Alpiq is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities arising from ongoing liberalisation of the gas markets. The Gas and Multi-commodities team is developing midstream gas merchant activities in the main European markets. We offer structured products to our customers and give them access to hubs and products enabling them to manage market price risks on the UK and the main continental gas markets. 8 Our business comprises all the main European exchanges, trading platforms and wholesale markets Trading Our trading activities cover all underlyings of European power and gas markets. Alpiq s trading activities benefit from a broad long-standing portfolio of counterparties and exchanges Asset Trading The primary focus of Asset Trading is on capturing the value of a portfolio of assets consisting of production, long-term contracts and sales positions. Our Asset Trading teams manage the positions of the power plant portfolio over the short term, using OTC markets and European spot exchanges. Part of the strategy of asset-backed trading is to take additional specific positions. They also manage the ancillary services provided to Swissgrid and other European grid operators. A 24-hour presence 7 days a week on the intraday markets is ensured by a dedicated team, allowing the offering of balance group management and market access services as well as additional services dedicated to direct marketeers. 9 Asset Optimisation Our Asset Optimisation team is in charge of the optimal dispatch of flexible power plants and contracts. They are responsible for the final decisions made on the use of Alpiq s power assets. They also provide this service for external clients. Our Asset Optimisation team interacts closely with Trading and Asset Management. Customised forward thinking The Origination team within Alpiq generates revenues through high-level structuring capabilities.
