After serving their first owners, Scania trucks often lead second and third lives as well. A wide range of engines offer a choice of Euro 3, Euro 4, Euro 5 and EEV engines spanning from 230 to more than 600 hp. Range-change and range-splitter gearboxes with or without crawler gears and automated gearchanging, as well as a wide variety of single-reduction and hub-reduction axles, enable the powertrain to be adapted to individual performance and mobility requirements. Competitive chassis weight irrespective of emission technology, combined with robust design, means that more cargo can be carried on a Scania construction vehicle without compromising durability. Technically permissible weights often exceed plated weights, offering a useful margin that boosts service life. Scania s extensive service network and modular component system result in less downtime if attention is required. If the complete vehicle is supplied by Scania, Scania also ensures the availability of bodywork parts and complete vehicle servicing via its network. See separate release. Scania always focuses on the driver and on the driver environment to provide maximum support for safe and efficient driving. A truck that is nice to drive will attract good drivers. This in turn boosts road safety, while bringing lower fuel and repair bills, as well as higher transport efficiency. The fully automated version uses electro-hydraulic clutch control for maximum precision. The gearchanging strategy is entirely new and several new functions are integrated to further facilitate driving. Automated gearchanging benefits drivers and operators in several ways. Besides improving comfort and eliminating the need to watch revs and change gears, it enables the driver to devote more attention to handling the vehicle and to other traffic. Familiarisation is quick and driving is efficient and consistent. Wear-and-tear is reduced on the clutch and other powertrain components, increasing service life.

3 3 (10) Scania Opticruise includes the following new features: Customers can choose according to preference: fully automated or with a clutch pedal. Automatic clutch with high-precision electro-hydraulic control, an industry first offering exact clutch control even without a clutch pedal. Manoeuvring mode for extra fine clutch control, accelerator resolution and smoother engine control. Automatic clutch disengaged briefly during gearchanges, making shifts faster and smoother. Comprehensive electronic protection keeps clutch wear to a minimum. Scania Opticruise is available on Scania's 8-, 12- and 12+2-speed gearboxes, the latter also with overdrive. Scania Retarder is optional. Hill-hold is standard on the fully automated version (with EBS). New shift strategy strives to maintain speed uphill without fuel penalty. Gearchanging adapts to individual driving style, load and inclination of the road. Power mode available for extra performance. All gearchanging and retarder control functions integrated in the RH steering wheel lever. Several parameters can be adjusted by any Scania workshop to tailor functionality to the conditions at hand. Traction panel Differential lock and traction control are fitted to most Scania construction trucks. All controls related to traction differential lock, traction control and weight transfer are grouped in one intuitive module on the dashboard, close to the gearchanging hand. In the centre of the panel module is the rotary switch for the differential locks that engages all locks on the vehicle in the right sequence to provide increasing traction, while maintaining as much steerability as possible. The rotary switch is pushed to disengage traction control. Adjacent to the rotary switch are controls for lifting the tag axle or transferring weight between bogie axles. Convenient differential locks Rotary switches with up to four positions are provided, depending on wheel configuration. Locking sequence for the different positions:

4 4 (10) Switch position 4x2 6x2 8x2 6x4 8x4 10x4 4x4 6x6 8x6 8x Differential lock engagement is indicated in three stages in the central instrument cluster: pending engagement, full engagement and pending disengagement. The display remains on as long as any differential is pending engagement/disengagement or fully engaged. Brief popups signal the engagement of front-wheel-drive and low gear in the transfer box. After a couple of seconds, the display reverts to the differential lock view. Examples: One difflock pending Two difflocks engaged, one pending All difflocks engaged Second bogie axle pending disengagement One difflock engaged Popup: Front-wheel-drive activated Popup: Low gear in transfer box Low gear and four difflocks engaged, front axle pending Smarter traction control (TC) The traction control function on vehicles with electronic brakes (EBS) has been refined: Integrated control. The rotary difflock switch is pushed to engage off-road mode. Discreetly indicated in the instrument cluster (after initial popup, see illustration).

5 5 (10) Controllable slip. To enable experienced drivers to search the maximum traction, the slip level is now dependent on the throttle position, i.e. more throttle gives higher slip. More precise engine torque reduction. This ensures that the turbo pressure is maintained to avoid unwanted downchanges when driving uphill in slippery conditions. Traction control: rotary switch pushed for off-road mode Popup: off-road traction control activated Off-road traction control active Together these features allow the driver full control and improve traction significantly. Parabolic springs on 19-, 21- and 26-tonne bogies Progressive parabolic springs are introduced as an option on 6x4 and 8x4 vehicles to improve comfort and increase mobility when unladen. Greater suspension flexibility means better traction. Service life is also improved thanks to lower internal friction. Upgraded hub-reduction axles and bogie boost mobility Stiffer halfshafts are introduced on all hub-reduction axles and a new slower hubreduction ratio on the heavy-duty version. The revisions will improve traction and minimise the risk of axle tramp. Scania's light hub-reduction axle is now also offered on 4x4 vehicles. For heavy-duty tipper applications, a new trunnion combined with high-mounted brake chambers improve ground clearance and traction.

6 6 (10) The slower hub gear ratio allows overall gearing of up to 7.18 (instead of 6.50), further reducing the strain on all transmission components in tough conditions such as mining. COMPLETE VEHICLES AND FACTORY PREPARATIONS The sooner a construction truck can start earning money for the customer, the better. Minimising lead time until the vehicle can be put in operation is often crucial to profitability. Scania provides many options for preparing the vehicle ex-factory to minimise effort for the bodybuilder and ensure the quality of the truck in operation. In addition, Scania provides a range of complete vehicles in some markets. Tipper preparations ex-factory The range of factory options to facilitate bodybuilding has been greatly extended. Numerous types of pre-drilled hole patterns in the frame side members can be specified to suit different types of bodywork. Various types of additional brackets and frame members can be ordered and fitted ex-factory, e.g. closing crossmembers and drawbeams (including underslung) at the rear. Several options are available for trailer connections, taillamp protection, working lights, extra front lights, warning beacons. These new factory preparations enable the time spent for bodybuilding to be cut to a minimum, while also ensuring homogeneous quality for the load-carrying components on the chassis. 7 7 (10) Besides bodywork, these vehicles can be specified with a range of cab and powertrain options. Scania provides full parts and service support for these vehicles through its sales and service network. In addition, Scania offers a wide range of complete vehicles on a local basis, for example hook-loaders and tippers in some countries, as well as mixer in some. Complete long-haulage and distribution vehicles are also available. GENERAL FEATURES Three cab ranges cater for all needs With good entry and exit and responsive handling, the G-series is particularly suitable for the construction segment. The compact dimensions of the P-series cab provide extra space for bodywork and particularly easy entry and exit, whereas the R-series allows space for Scania's legendary V8 engines. The broader range thus enables customers to tailor specifications more precisely to their needs. Irrespective of size, Scania cabs are renowned for their comfort, ergonomics, safety and driver appeal. For maximum cargo space, the short cab is ideal since it is most compact. The slightly longer day cab offers more storage behind the seats, and an optional folding bunk is useful for resting. Sleeper cabs in several roof heights can also be specified, including a low roof option that leaves extra space for bodywork above the cab. Short cab Day cab Sleeper cab Low Normal Highline Topline Engines for productivity and driver appeal Whatever the output, Scania engines are renowned for their power, torque, driveability and operating economy. Image and driver appeal are other strengths. Class-by-class, Scania engines have unusually high torque ratings, which means exceptional driveability with a minimum of gearchanging an extra bonus for demanding construction driving.

8 8 (10) The range includes a wide choice of Euro 3, Euro 4, Euro 5 and EEV engines. The engines can be run on up to 100% biodiesel (special maintenance conditions apply). Scania s ethanol engine rated at 270 hp and 1200 Nm is available in the P- series. Renewable fuels such as ethanol and biodiesel bring down net emissions of carbon dioxide by up to 90 percent, depending on how the fuel has been produced. 9 9 (10) Go-anywhere transmissions Scania gearboxes are based on a modular design, where the sections can be combined in different ways to produce the most suitable transmission for any type of application. 8+1 and 12+2 gearboxes are equipped with crawler ratios. The modular design facilitates repairs and parts supply. The overdrive gearbox can be specified to limit on-road cruising revs. It is also used to cope with the 3000 Nm produced by Scania s most powerful 620 hp V8 engine. Automatic protection against clutch abuse is provided by an electronic function that limits engine revs when starting. The optional Scania Retarder is fitted at the rear of the gearbox, providing fully integrated control, either automatic via the brake pedal or manual via the stalk on the steering column. In addition, the system occasionally applies the exhaust brake to further boost braking power. Scania Opticruise, the optional automated gearchanging system, is also integrated in the gearbox. It works equally well in manual and automatic mode, manual mode being handy on construction sites and on soft ground. The system is offered with automatic clutch or with a clutch pedal for applications where driver control is preferable in tricky situations. Power take-offs in various positions Gearbox power take-offs are available in several positions and with different gear ratios. The range includes side-mounted PTOs suitable for tippers, high-ratio rearmounted PTOs for timber applications and a combination of rear- and side-mounted PTOs e.g. for large cranes with a need for dual hydraulic circuits. Other layouts are available on special request. Engine-driven power take-offs, used with hooklifts and mixers, for example, are either engine-mounted or flywheel-mounted. Rear-mounted timing gears on the engine means that these PTO interfaces are gathered in the same area, i.e. around the clutch housing. These PTOs operate independently of clutch and gearbox. Wheel configurations, drive axles, bogies Scania offers a wide range of vehicles in two-, three-, four- and multi-axle configurations, as tractors or rigids, with all-wheel-drive options and several cab alternatives:

The hubreduction bogie range thus comprises 19, 21, 26, 30 and 32 tonne capacities. The axles are light and strong, with a compact banjo and generous ground clearance. Springs are multi-leaf or parabolic. An adapted version of the lighter axle is used for driven front axles. A lightweight bogie with single reduction is available for 6x4 and 8x4 vehicles with up to 620 hp. This bogie is also available with air suspension. All-wheel-drive vehicles (4x4, 6x6, 8x8, as well as 8x6) have the option of constant or engageable front-wheel drive, the latter advantageous for saving fuel. The front axle and 2-speed transfer box have differential locks that can be engaged independently. 2 Axles 1, 3 and 4 driven. 3 Axles 1, 2 and 5 steered.
