3 Welcome from Melbourne PMI Board and Melbourne PMI Mentoring Manager This event was fully booked (120 people) 2 weeks prior with members on the waiting list! New Melbourne PMI Chapter President Annie Sheenan New Melbourne PMI Chapter Vice-President Mark Lowy Mentoring program sponsor and long term mentor on the program Our Mentoring community is growing! We currently have 320 active members and keep growing 2016 Kick-off in the format of Speed-Dating was very successful and resulted in approximately 30 new pairing connections I believe that every mentee currently has a mentor and every mentor has a mentee. 7 Project practitioner skill set PMI Talent Triangle goes beyond the focus on technical skills, recognising that leadership, strategic and business management skills are critical for the project practitioner. Arguably, project practitioners need an additional skill set - the capacity to manage the stress and strain arising from multiple demands in a complex, uncertain and sometimes ambiguous business environment. 7

9 What is stress? A state of mental or emotional strain or tension resulting from adverse or demanding circumstances (Oxford Dictionary). Job stress is a condition where job related factors interact with the worker to change (disrupt or enhance) psychological or physiological condition such that the person (mind and~or body) is forced to deviate from normal functioning (Beehr and Newman, 1978). Stress regarded as either positive (enhancement) or negative (disruption). Eustress positive or energising stress Distress painful and de-motivating 9

10 Employer obligations The Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (OHS Act) requires employers to provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without risks to health (including psychological health) for employees, so far as is reasonably practicable. 16 What is resilience? The process of negotiating, managing, and adapting to significant sources of stress or trauma. 18 Developing work resilience Evidence supports 7 areas: Living authentically: Knowing and holding onto personal values, deploying personal strengths, and having a good level of emotional awareness and regulation. Finding one s calling: Seeking work that has purpose, a sense of belonging and a fit with core values and beliefs. Maintaining perspective: Having the capacity to reframe setbacks, maintain a solution focus, and manage negativity. 19 Developing work resilience Interacting cooperatively: Refers to a workplace work style that includes seeking feedback, advice, and support as well as providing support to others. Staying healthy: Maintaining a good level of physical fitness and a healthy diet.
