3 LIONS & LEOPARDS of KRUGER - N g a l a - K r u g e r P a r k - M a l a M a l a DESCRIPTION This 13 Day Photo Safari begins in Johannesburg, South Africa and takes in three of the very best photographic locations that the Kruger area has to offer. You will fly into Hoedspruit Airport where you will be met by Stu. A short road transfer will take you through the Timbavati Game Reserve before arriving at Ngala Private Game Reserve for a late lunch. We will be staying at NGALA SAFARI LODGE, (part of the & BEYOND Safari Lodge collection) This reserve shares an unfenced boundary with the enormous Kruger National Park. The wildlife here enjoys unrestricted access to one of the largest ecosystems in Africa. The magnificent Timbavati River snakes its way through this private reserve, which has a very healthy predator population. African Wild dog, Lion, Leopard, Spotted Hyaena and Cheetah are regularly seen. Our next destination on the tour will be the world famous KRUGER NATIONAL PARK. We stay INSIDE this great reserve which conveniently allows us easy access to the local wildlife hotspots. Along with a healthy predator population, Kruger consistently produces some of the best "general game" photos of Zebra, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu, Elephant, Hippo, White Rhino, Crocodiles, along with a fantastic variety of birds. Photographing the great variety of "general game" and exploring this vast untouched wilderness will be the focus of our stay whilst in the Kruger National Park. Our final destination is the MALA MALA Private Game Reserve. This is the oldest private game reserve in South Africa, and the place where numerous award winning National Geographic wildlife documentaries such as "Beauty & the Beast", Predators at War" and "Tjololo the Leopard" have been filmed. Here our focus changes as we aim to track down and spend quality time with the reserve's wild Lions & Leopards. This is one of the best places in the world to see these cats and offers unrivalled photographic opportunities. At Mala Mala we will also have the opportunity to go in search of the predators at night. All the skills of night photography and how to capture the nocturnal world will be explained by Stu, offering a different set of experiences and photo opportunities. You will fly from Skukuza airport back to Johannesburg where the tour will end. This is our most exclusive small group photo safari with a maximum of 3 participants in 1 private vehicle. There is plenty of space for equipment and guaranteed access to BOTH sides of the safari vehicle. Stu Porter will lead the tour and offer photo tuition and guidance. Being our most exclusive photo safari, each photographer will have the complimentary use of a professional tripod, Wimberley version 2 tripod head and a Visual Echoes panning plate. WILD4's specially designed photo bars will attach to the vehicles we use at both Ngala and Mala Mala. These bars offer a very stable shooting platform. Along with excellent Lion & Leopard photo opportunities, you will also have a good chance to see and photograph the following: African Wilddog, Cheetah, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, White Rhino, Hippo, Spotted Hyaena, Jackal, Crocodile, Giraffe, Waterbuck, Greater Kudu, Bushbuck, Nyala, Zebra, Wildebeest, Chacma Baboon, Vervet Monkey, Warthog and a fantastic variety of birds. 3

Road transfer to Ngala Private Game Reserve where we will arrive in time for a late lunch. Ngala Safari Lodge and Mala Mala Main Camp are located in their own private game viewing areas where only their vehicles have private access to large wilderness areas. Both of these reserves share an unfenced boundary with the enormous sq km / sq mile Kruger National Park, allowing the local wildlife unrestricted access. The rooms are of a high standard with en-suite bathroom facilities, 24 hour electricity in the rooms and free wifi internet access. For our 6 night stay inside the Kruger National Park, we will make use of the public rest camps which have comfortable accommodations with en-suite facilities and 24 hour electricity. At all locations we will have the private use of safari vehicles complete with stable photographic shooting platforms. With only 3 photographers in the vehicle there is plenty of space for your equipment and you will have guaranteed access to BOTH sides of the safari vehicle. 7

The flight from Johannesburg (JNB) to Hoedspruit Airport (HDS) takes approximately 1hr 15 mins The flight from Skukuza airport (SZK) back to Johannesburg (JNB) takes approximately 50 mins Road transfer from Hoedspruit Airport (HDS) to Ngala Private Game Reserve is approximately 50 mins Road transfer from Ngala to Kruger Park is approximately 1hr 30 mins Road transfer from Kruger National Park to Mala Mala is approximately 1 hr 30 mins Road transfer from Mala Mala to Skukuza airport (SZK) is approximately 45 mins > What are the luggage restrictions? On all our safaris it is preferable to use a soft duffel type bag for your main luggage (not hard suitcases) as these are easier to pack into vehicles and planes. The normal luggage restriction as far as weight goes are 20 kgs for hold luggage and 8 kgs for Cabin Luggage. We all know that as photographers 8 kgs for camera equipment is not enough However you will find that the size of the bag is more important. A normal Think Tank type camera bag (airport accelerator) should carry the amount of equipment you need for your safari. When checking in, politely explain that it is expensive camera equipment and cannot go in the luggage hold. Usually they allow you on with no problem as long as the bag can fit either in the overhead locker or under the seat in front of you. If for any reason you are refused to board with your camera bag (this seldom happens) then they will ask you to "sky check" your bag. Here you take your bag to the plane and leave it at the bottom of the stairs where it will be taken to a special storage space (not in the hold) for the duration of the flight. When you disembark at the end of the flight, your bag will be waiting for you. > Can I hire Camera Equipment from you? YES, I do have 2 x Canon 500mm f4 IS version 1 lenses for hire - please ask us for the latest hire rates. On this specific photo safari each participant will have the complimentary use of a tripod (with ballhead), a Wimberley Version 2 tripod head as well as a Visual Echoes Panning Plate. > What "stable shooting platforms" do you offer? I firmly believe that having a stable shooting platform on the safari vehicles is a crucial element to the success of a photo safari. You need to be comfortable when shooting so that you can concentrate on the image and not how to balance a telephoto lens on a wobbly monopod or your knees We will often sit and wait patiently for long periods of time for a shot to present itself - being comfortable is paramount. At both Ngala and Mala Mala where the vehicles are totally open (i.e. no canvas roof) I will attach my own WILD4 photo bars. These clamp onto the vehicle and allow you to roll a small square platform (with beanbag attached), back and forth to enable comfortable shooting from both sides of the safari vehicle. In the Kruger National Park we make use of my own WILD4 safari vehicle which I have modified with adjustable plates on either side of the vehicle (again with beanbags attached) on which you can rest your lens and shoot from a comfortable position. I personally like to use the Visual Echoes Panning plate whilst using a beanbag as it allows a smooth panning motion from left to right and it lifts the focus ring of the lens off the bean bag, allowing you to focus manually if necessary. > Are we able to go off road to get closer to the animals? NGALA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE - yes we are allowed off road but at the discretion of the ranger who will be driving our vehicle. It is not a simple case of crashing off into the bush after wildlife. The ranger has to assess each situation before going off road. Some areas are more sensitive to damage than others and some trees and bushes are more vulnerable than others. You can be assured that the ranger wants to show you the animals and get you as close as possible but on some occasions we will have to respect the rules of the reserve as well as the environment and the comfort levels of the wildlife. MALA MALA PRIVATE GAME RESERVE - similar rules exist at Mala Mala, where we are also able to drive off road at the discretion of our ranger. KRUGER NATIONAL PARK - NO OFF ROAD DRIVING is allowed in any of South Africa's National Parks. Personally I never find that this has a negative impact on the photographic experience, in fact it makes one appreciate wildlife even more and how we should have a respect for it. Despite not being allowed off road, you will be pleasantly surprised at what the Kruger produces in terms of different photographic opportunities. > What do you expect the weather to be like? The South African winter months run from June through to late August, it will be cold in the mornings and in the evenings, especially when travelling in the open safari vehicles. This often catches people by surprise. The days generally warm up to a very pleasant temperature of around 25 C (or 77 F) Skies are often clear at this time of year and rain is very rare. > What clothing & equipment would be relevant? Warm clothing is necessary especially in the early morning and evening. I would recommend a warm fleece as well as a wind breaker jacket. Long trousers, a beanie (woollen hat) and gloves are remarkably useful too. As far as camera equipment goes, we have a more detailed kit list which we will send out to you at time of registration. > Is there a laundry service available? Yes there is a laundry service available at all locations. Ngala and Mala Mala offer a complimentary laundry service. Laundry can be done in the Kruger National Park by your room attendant for a nominal fee. > How do we recharge camera batteries and laptops? All the accommodations you will be staying at on this safari will have electric points for recharging your batteries and laptops. A detailed Plug & Voltage document will be sent out to you at the time of registration. 11

There is free wifi internet at both Ngala and Mala Mala although it is not high speed. Cell phone / Mobile reception at both these locations is very patchy with not very good coverage. Kruger National Park does not have any internet or wifi access. The camps do offer cell / mobile phone reception on which you can access the internet on your own data package. > How early can we leave camp and how late can we return? At Ngala and Mala Mala we have a bit of flexibility with our departure times and we will also be able to do night drives. We normally arrive back at camp with some time to prepare for dinner, which is normally around 8 o'clock Kruger National Park has strict gate opening and gate closing times which we will have to adhere to. The gates open at 6:00 am and close at 17:30 in July and at 18:00 in August & September. > What is a typical day "in the field"? NGALA We usually meet up at around 05:15 for a quick cup of coffee / tea and some cookies / rusks on the main verandah before heading out on our morning drive. We take packed breakfasts with us and will eat these at a suitable time. We then return to camp just before lunch. Lunch is optional (depending on how hungry you might be). We then meet up at 15:00 for another cup of tea / coffee & cakes on the verandah before heading out for the afternoon and evening drive. Depending on the situation, we might also stop around sunset time for a sundowner. Our night drive will then begin and we slowly make our way back towards camp arriving at around 7pm which gives us an hour to get ready for an 8pm dinner. We could be back in the rooms by 9 pm. KRUGER NATIONAL PARK Meet up at 05:30 for a small breakfast (cereals, toast, preserves, yoghurt, fruit, coffee / tea & cookies) Depart camp at 06:00 taking our mid morning snack (fruit & cereal bar) and our packed lunches with us. Kruger is a large reserve and we do often find ourselves far from camp or sitting patiently at a waterhole watching the animals come to drink. We either eat lunch out in the reserve or return to camp for a midday break. Depart again in the afternoon and return to camp before the camp gates close - roughly around sunset. We meet for dinner at 19:00 MALA MALA A similar schedule to Ngala ** Being a private photo safari we can be flexible with these arrangements and adjust to accommodate the needs of the group and what the wildlife sightings are like at the time of our stay. Photo tuition such as workflow, photoshop or lightroom sessions can be squeezed in at any time that is convenient to you. > What is the recommended Tipping Policy on this safari? Tipping is a safari tradition in Africa. You are welcome to stick to your regular personal tipping policies but we politely recommend you try to follow our guidelines regarding tipping as it helps to set a standard. Firstly, even though it is expected, it is not compulsory. If you feel that you have not been given excellent service then you do not have to tip. I personally feel that if somebody goes above and beyond their job description then it is polite to tip them and I am more than happy to do so. Please ask us to send you our detailed recommended tipping policy for this specific photo safari. It will also be in your Arrival Information Document, which will be sent to you 2 weeks before the start of your photo safari. 12

From a young age I spent many family holidays enjoying Africa's diversity of wildlife and wild places. As a family we have lived in Zimbabwe, Malawi, Zambia and South Africa, which we now use as our home base from which we personally organise and lead authentic small group photographic safaris. In 1999 I became a qualified FGASA Field Guide and THETA Tourist Guide and in 2003 I obtained a BA (Hons) Degree in Wildlife Photography at Blackpool & the Fylde College, an associate college of Lancaster University in the United Kingdom. The combination of these two passions helped me to achieve my long-held dream of operating my own photographic safari tour company. My images have been published in Outdoor Photography, Getaway, Africa Wild, Photo Comment, 50/50 Veld Focus TV show, Fuji Film awards and National Geographic Website. They are also for sale through a number of online stock libraries. My wife, Justyna, was born and bred in Poland and is a handy photographer herself as well as a qualified tourist guide. Justyna worked on first class cruise liners, the world famous Harrods in London and as a top seller for the UK's largest travel consolidator. Customer service is just one of her many strong points. Justyna looks after the office and all the important administration of our business. We have two daughters, Molly and Jenny and my parents, John & Ann offer us tremendous support and help out with background logistics and catering whilst in the Kruger National Park. We are a small family business with a sincere and genuine passion for our company and our clients. 15 LIONS & LEOPARDS of KRUGER - N g a l a - K r u g e r P a r k - M a l a M a l a BOOKING PROCEDURE BOOKING PROCEDURE: > First contact us to confirm that there are spaces available on the photo safari that you are interested in. > Once confirmed, you will need to complete our Photo Tour Booking Form and we will send you details of how to make the deposit payment > To secure your place on the safari we will need a completed Photo Tour Booking Form per person as well as proof of payment of the tour deposit. > You will then receive a statement from us indicating that you have paid your deposit. The statement will also detail the outstanding amount and the due date for this payment (90 days prior to departure). We will also send out the following documents: - Wild4 suggested clothing & equipment lists - Wild4 plug & voltage info - Wild4 pre-safari camera setup - Wild4 Photographic Safaris tuition booklet Please note that it is compulsory for you to take out your own travel insurance to cover unexpected trip cancellation, medical, personal and photographic equipment. WILD4 will not be held responsible in any way for the loss of or damage to any photographic equipment or personal belongings, nor for any medical expenses. Our medical insurance will only cover you for evacuation from the field to the closest most appropriate medical facility, at which point your medical insurance would take over. CANCELLATION POLICY: We must receive a formal written notification of your cancellation. Deposits are non-refundable. If for any reason a participant ends a tour early or does not make use of a service that has been included in the price of any scheduled tour, tailor-made tour or tour extension, no refund for this unused portion or service will be made. Tour fees are not transferable. All tour deposits are non-refundable. Full payment of the tour fee is due 90 days prior to the departure date. 18 REPTILE & PHOTO HIDE SAFARI WORKSHOP EXTENSION DESCRIPTION: (please ask if the extension is available for the departure you are interested in) For those who would like to extend the length of their safari, we offer an exciting and unique 4 night / 5 day extension which takes place before the beginning of the scheduled safari ** selected departures ONLY ** This extension allows you the opportunity to get to know your camera and equipment before you head off on the main safari. It will also offer unique photo opportunities of Africa's Reptiles, Birds and Mammals. If you are a beginner, then take advantage of the small group size and 1 to 1 photo tuition from Stu. If you are a seasoned nature photographer then take advantage of some very unique photo opportunities you will not get any where else. It will be run in a "WORKSHOP" type style - but will be adjusted to the photographic skill level of each participant. The topics we will cover are not set in stone and will be tailored to the needs of each individual on the extension. Having a slightly more controlled situation, allows you to often reshoot and fine tune your technique and your camera skills. We explore a number of different photo techniques. We spend the first two nights at Moholoholo Forest Camp, nestled at the base of the Drakensberg Mountains. Here we will focus on African Reptile Photography, night photography and a Wild Vulture feed. Then we move location to the Karongwe Reserve for another 2 nights. Here we have a wonderful opportunity to photograph from two custom built photographic hides / blinds. One of the hides is set up to photograph any large mammals that might visit as well as birds that come to drink water right in front of the hide. The second hide is a specialist bird hide with reflection pool. We have a total of 4 hide sessions (2 sessions at each hide) and this allows us the time to work on various skills and techniques that we will practice and hone, to help prepare you for the main tour. You will also enjoy close up encounters and experiences with some of Africa's most interesting animals. Species may include: Black & Green Mambas, Cobras, Chameleon, Tiger snake, Puff Adder, Baboon Spider, Scorpion, Sungazer Lizard, Cape Griffon Vulture, White Backed Vulture, Hooded Vulture. White headed Vulture, Lappet Faced Vulture, Elephant, Giraffe, Kudu, Nyala, Baboons and a number of different bird species. 18

Settle in then head out for the afternoon Vulture feed & sunset photo shoot (overnight Forest Camp for 2 nights) DAY 2 DAY 3 Depart after breakfast for the Reptile Park. Full day spent at the park with private photo sessions of a variety of species. Depart around 5pm (overnight Forest Camp) Depart after breakfast for the Karongwe Reserve arriving in time for lunch. Briefing before setting out to the large mammal hide for our first afternoon photo shoot and workshop. (overnight Karongwe Reserve for 2 nights) DAY 4 DAY 5 Morning & afternoon photo sessions at the hides on a private basis (overnight Karongwe Reserve) Depart after early morning hide session and breakfast, road transfer to Hoedspruit airport where we would collect any other members of the group and then head on to Ngala Private Game Reserve for the start of the scheduled photo safari. 19
