2 INTRODUCTION GlobalSign PDF Signing Certificates are used to add digital signatures to PDF documents. Theree are two types of signatures that can be added to PDFs approval signatures and certifying signatures. Adobe Reader s simple to interpret Blue Ribbon, Yellow Warning Triangle, and Red X messaging allows even novice users an easy to understand method to determine if the document is legitimate: SIGNING YOUR PDF Similar to a wet ink signature on a physical document, applying a digital signature to a PDF shows your consent, approval, or acceptance of the document contents. A PDF can be signed more than once and by more than one person. You can choose adjust the appearance of your signature as you see fit. HOW TO ADD YOUR SIGNATURE With the document open in Adobe Acrobat, click the Sign icon at the top of the screen and click Sign Document. After you choose the location and size for your signature, the Sign Document window will appear. You can modify the appearance of your signature by clicking the drop down next too Appearance: and selecting Create New Appearance. Click Sign when finished.

3 After entering your token password, your signature will be applied to the document. The blue ribbon will appear across the top of the document indicating that the document has been signed and all signatures are valid. You can also click the Signature Panel button or the signature itselff to bring up further information about the certificate and verify its validity. ADD YOUR SIGNATURE TO AN EXISTING SIGNATURE FIELD In some cases you may need to apply your signature to a documentt containing a signature field. You simply need to click the field to start the signing process.

4 CERTIFYING SIGNATURES The first person to sign a document (most often the author) has thee option to addd a certifying signature. Certifying a PDF indicates that you approve of its content and allows you to specify the types of changes that are permitted for the PDF to remain certified. You can choose from three levels of modification permitted: 1. No changes 2. Form fill in only 3. Form fill in and commenting Certifying signatures can be visible or non visible. Example Visible Signature Appears in the signature field within the document Example Non Visible Signature Appears as blue ribbon icon in document status bar HOW TO CERTIFY YOUR DOCUMENT With the document open in Adobe Acrobat, click Sign and then select Certify with Visible Signature or Certify without Visible Signature. If you choose to certify with a visible signature, you will first need to choose the location for your signature. Follow the on screen instructions to select your apply your signature.

5 Your signature will appear either at the top of the document (Non Visible Signature) or in the signature field (Visible Signature). By clicking the Signture Panel button, you can view the signature details.
