Whatever the nature of your organisation, you entrust your employees with a great deal of responsibility. This is a particular issue when checks are carried out by internal staff who may be distracted by other job demands. Outsourcing candidate checking to us addresses this issue and in addition brings you the benefit of our expertise, experience and investment in the right processes and tools. Reduce the time it takes to verify candidates. We deliver faster and more reliable results than other alternatives, with service levels agreed in advance for most checks. The speed of the service means you can make quicker, more informed recruitment decisions and minimise the amount of time that posts are vacant. Clear and simple reports. The reports you receive from us use colour coding to clearly highlight any adverse findings about candidates, including where there are inconsistencies with the information they supplied. You are also able to tell us about your recruitment criteria and we will highlight where candidates do not meet them. Monitor progress online. You initiate checks online and then use the same method to check on progress. Candidates also have access to relevant information, reducing the number of calls you receive about the status of checks. Your own branding. The online portal can be given your organisation s look and feel to extend your brand and further enhance the candidate experience. The confidence of a robust audit trail. The system logs the date, time stamp, user ID and IP address of each interaction and makes this data available securely via the audit trail functionality. This helps to eliminate potential errors and protects against inappropriate use of the application. Integrate with other applications. The PeopleChecking system has been integrated with many HR XML compliant applications including web-based erecruitment, applicant tracking, CV parsing and HR administration/payroll systems. This integration has enabled organisations to reduce the time required to request checks, further minimise errors and achieve even greater usability for employees and candidates. Some candidate checking services can struggle to give you what you really need, but thanks to our in-house developers we have the capacity to tailor the service to meet a wide range of specific requirements you may have. 03

4 Detailed candidate verification, whatever your needs Across the next three pages, we have summarised the wide variety of checks available to you. UK standard identity and financial status This is often chosen by our clients as it provides essential information applicable to just about any role. It s also especially fast as it draws on publicly available information, and like all our checks meets the requirements of the BS7858 standard for security screening services. The check confirms the candidate s identity by comparing the public electoral register against a six-year address history provided by the candidate. It also establishes whether there were any county court judgments, bankruptcies or voluntary arrangements in the past six years. Finally, there is use of the CAPS (Credit Application Previous Searches) database to investigate any discrepancies in name, addresses, date of birth and marital status between the data the candidate has supplied and other applications they may have made in the past year. Standalone CCJ status This option provides details of any county court judgments in the past six years, using the candidate s address history. Proof of identity Extra verification is available from this check, which involves running the candidate s details against third party databases including the electoral roll, telephone directory enquiry data and the Royal Mail s postcode address file. Employment history verification A reference is obtained from previous employers, typically covering the company name, employment status, period of employment, position on leaving and whether the employer would re-employ the person. 04 NorthgateArinso PeopleChecking

5 Employment gap/personal reference When a gap in employment is declared, this asks a professional person such as a doctor, solicitor or teacher to verify what the candidate was doing during that time. The check can alternatively be used to obtain a personal reference when the more usual employer s reference is not suitable. Academic qualification check This provides you with written confirmation of an academic degree or secondary education qualification. We contact the academic establishment to confirm the period of attendance, the type of qualification gained, subjects studied and grades achieved. Professional membership When you want to check that candidates have provided accurate information about their professional and trade memberships we will provide you with written confirmation, including levels and dates of affiliation. Online search This provides selected results based on a search using an online search engine against the candidate s full name. This will reveal any negative information that has been publicly reported on the individual. Financial Services Authority The FSA database is searched for the person s name, status, FSA reference number, controlled functions, current employer name and start date, as well as any previous employers where the person worked in a controlled function, with start and end dates. The details and dates of any disciplinary action taken through the FSA are also listed in the search results. UK criminal record These are available at three levels: Basic. This details any convictions considered to be unspent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act This can be carried out on any person with their consent, regardless of the type of job involved. Standard. This details both unspent and spent convictions and is usually reserved for posts that involve working with children or vulnerable adults, or positions specified in the exceptions order to RoA 1974, such as some legal positions or FSA regulated roles. Independent Safeguarding Authority Two services are available in connection with the ISA s Vetting and Barring Scheme: Application for entry onto register. The process is the same as applying for an enhanced criminal record check. In addition, as an umbrella body we can submit an application on your behalf to the ISA. Checking of register. When an individual declares that they have an ISA unique reference number we will check their status, which will reflect the ISA s continuous monitoring of all registered people. We will also register your organisations interest so that the ISA will inform you automatically if the individual s status changes. UK directorships A directorship report provides the registered company name, number and address for each directorship held by the candidate, and reveals any current or potential conflicts of interest showing active and inactive directorships. Driving licence check Where you require someone to have a valid licence, this check secures confirmation from the DVLA of the person s licence validity and details of any endorsements. Proof of eligibility to work in the UK This confirms whether the authenticated copies of eligibility documentation meet the requirements published by the UK Border Agency to confirm an individual s right to work in the UK. International (non-uk) credit and criminal record Even UK based companies will have recruits that have had work or education experience overseas. It is therefore imperative that backgrounds are properly checked, regardless of jurisdiction. We seek out the best sources in each relevant country to provide you with the information you need. Sanctions and watch lists search This checks for sanctions, enforcements and warnings in the UK and worldwide. The search includes individuals known or suspected to be affiliated with terrorism, money laundering, fraudsters, drug trafficking, arms dealing, war crimes, white collar fraud or other illegal activities, as well as Politically Exposed Persons (PEP s). Enhanced. This includes an additional check on local police records to see if there is any information relevant to the position being applied for. It is designed primarily for posts with a greater degree of contact with children or vulnerable adults involving regular care, supervision or being in sole charge of such individuals. 05

6 Additional services for extra convenience Exit interviews We can hold exit interviews on your behalf, which is a great source of feedback on employees experiences of working within your organisation. Departing employees are much more likely to give an honest opinion of the things you might want to monitor, including how well the organisation or a particular department functions as a team. References for previous employees The process of responding to reference requests for past employees can be time consuming. You can avoid this burden through our service, in which we securely hold data on previous employees and give references on your behalf in line with your company policies.
