1 The Body Therapy Center and School of Massage, Ltd Four Executive Woods Court Swansea, Illinois Website: Phone: Fax: Continuing Education 2015 *Indicates classes taught through Southwestern Illinois College. These seminars consist of two weekends; Fridays 6-10pm and Sat/Sun 9-6pm. Students must have Coordinators approval and register through SWIC at the beginning of each semester to attend NMT classes. Cost for Swic classes (in district) is $ per credit hour plus lab fee s each class is 1.5 credit hours (32 CE hours). April May 8&9 April 25 & 26 *NeuroMuscular Therapy: Torso and Pelvis - 32 CE hrs the thoracic, pelvic and lumbar area while learning the NMT principles and protocols of treatment of the torso and pelvis. This class is taught through Southwestern Illinois College. Primary Respiration and the Fluid Body 16 CE hrs Sat and Sun 9-6pm $ The focus of this course is to learn to distinguish the importance of Primary Respiration and its movement in the fluid body. The fluid body is the sum of all the different types of fluids in the body and is over 90% of the human body. The student learns to sense Primary Respiration in his or her own body first and then the client. Primary Respiration is a foundation of health and compassion in the human body. Understanding and perceiving the five layers of the biodynamic process will be the clinical focus. Orienting, Synchronizing, Attuning, Disengaging, and Igniting represent the states of perception associated with both the stillness of the midline and Primary Respiration in the whole. An introduction to the dynamic morphology of the human embryo will be explored theoretically and with table work. Students will learn to move their attention through four zones of perception. This starts with the practitioner's body, the space immediately around their body, the office space and the natural world outside the office. This practice establishes a three dimensional wholeness for both the practitioner and the client with and without contact with the hand. It is called a "cycle of attunement" and is crucial to the healing process. Experience healing in three dimensional fluid body. See the four stages of embryonic morphogenesis. Practice with the notochord as primary organizer of somatic differentiation. Learn the five stages of biodynamic process.
2 May 30 Massaging Patients with Cancer 8CE hrs 9-6pm - $ This class will teach massage students how to appropriately work with clients living with or surviving cancer. Comfort-oriented massage touch can be administered to people with cancer regardless of the severity of their condition. This seminar will train massage therapists in the basics of oncology massage. Therapists who focus on hospice and hospital work will also find this seminar to be valuable for their special needs patients. June 7 Understanding HIV/AIDS 6 CE hrs Instructor: Holly I. Pinto, LMT, NCTMB (9am-3pm) $150 This short course is for all massage therapists who wish to be educated in the methods of transmission and recommended treatments for clients living with HIV/AIDS. Therapist will learn how a massage can strengthen a client s immune system and how to help manage the symptoms of the disease. Many states require continuing education in HIV/AIDS, so it is an important topic in today s society. Therapists will discuss the prevalence, transmission and symptoms of HIV/AIDS. As a result, therapists will learn how to be an integrated part of the client s medical term. June and July 10&11 June *Introduction to NeuroMuscular Therapy (NMT) - 32CE hrs Students will discover the history, the roots and branches of NeuroMuscular Therapy and the work of Judith DeLany. In this introduction class students will learn NMT s foundational platform, applications of NeuroMuscular techniques, the methodology for assessing, treating, and preventing soft tissue injuries and chronic pain. Students will gain precise palpation skills, proper use of tools and elbows in preparation for the application of this work. This class is taught through Southwestern Illinois College. Biodynamic Work with the CVS* The Aorta and Neck $395 Instructor: Dr. Michael Shea Must have attended previous CVS classes This course will explore the deep development of the central structures of the cardiovascular system especially the heart and aorta. We will explore the metabolic fields forming the human heart of the embryo: distusion/swelling, retension/stillness and dilation/expansion. These fields form the musculoskeletal system and important parts of the heart. Palpation skills will include deeper work with the carotid arteries and the carotid sinus. These skills are vital in rehabilitating the wholeness of central, autonomic and cardiovascular systems. The cardiopathic approach supports a sense of wholeness through the body and attention on the cardiovascular system changes brain function especially the way deep emotions are processed. The heart-brain connection will be taught. Students will learn to palpate the different metabolic fields in and around the heart. This includes the abdomen, thorax and neck, which will lead to changes in the brain over time. Learning the late metabolic fields. Contacting the developmental movement of the heart and vascular system. Practicing a new cerebrovascular drainage protocol. Exploring contact with the baroreceptors of the aorta and neck.
3 June 28 Professional Ethics of Touch; Healthy Boundaries, Conflict Resolution 6 CE hrs (9-3pm) $125 Students will explore the various situations that may arise in the therapeutic relationship between client and practitioner. Through case study, role playing, and self-examination students will develop skills to manage situations regarding boundary issues, personality conflicts, transference, counter-transference, diversity, and appropriate relationships as they relate to the massage profession. July 12 Meditation / Self-care for the Bodyworker 8CE hrs 9-6pm - $200 July and July 24 & 25 *NeuroMuscular Therapy: Cervical Spine and Cranium 32 CE hrs Instructor: Holly Pinto, BS, LMT, NCTMB the cervical spine and cranium area while learning the NMT principles and protocols of treatment of the cervical spine and cranium. This class is taught through Southwestern Illinois College. Register through SWIC Nov 15 Death and Dying 8 CE hours 9-6pm $200 Nov Dec Myofascial Release Technique IV: Fundamentals of Deep Tissue 20CE s $525 Level 4 - Biodynamic Work with the CVS* The Face and Cranial Base $395 Instructor: Dr. Michael Shea Must have attended previous CVS classes This advanced course is a continuation of the previous cardiopathic courses on the heart and vascular system. It will give students new cardiopathic skills for working with the arteries of the face, the cranium and extremities. A biokinetic approach to the arterial system and balancing its pressure systemically and neurologically will be taught by relating to the metabolic fields forming the basicranium and face. This course will expand upon the role of biodynamic craniosacral therapy by working with the biokinetics of the cardiovascular system to ensure optimal recovery from impact trauma. Research has shown that even a minor concussion, fall or impact can cause long-term health problems because the heart experiences a kind of whiplash. This causes an imbalance in intrathoracic pressures. Dynamic stillness will be the basis of the class and specific vascular structures in the A-O joint, face and extremities will be detailed. Skills will include working with the arterial system in the face and around the cranial base in order to stabilize and transform the autonomic nervous system into a sense of embodied compassion. Biodynamic practitioners will deepen their knowledge of the cardiovascular system and its ignition system. In addition a protocol to treat the anterior and posterior tibial arteries will be taught. A new protocol with the A-O Joint.
6 New work with balancing cardiovascular system pressures. Learn to blend biodynamic and biokinetic work. Palpate the arteries of the face and cranium.
