5 Laredo Community College Radiologic Technology Program Mission Statement The Radiologic Technology Program functions in accordance with the mission statement of Laredo Community College. The Radiography program strives to provide an educational experience that will produce competent entry- level radiographers capable of addressing the needs of the constant changing and challenging health care environment. Radiologic Technology Program Goals Goal#1 Students will have the knowledge and skills to perform competently the essentials of medical imaging and safe patient care. Goal#2 Students will develop team building and effective communication skills. Goal #3 The program will assist the students in their development of critical thinking and problem solving skills and prepare them for the A.R.R.T. Registry examination. Goal #4 The program will assist in developing the desire in students to achieve professional growth, and excellence through lifelong learning adherence of the profession. Goal #5 The program will collaborate with the community by graduating individuals who are employable and successful in obtaining the credentials required for the profession. Goal #6 The program will effectively deliver a viable curriculum for the classroom and clinical component that promotes student success. 04/2012 Page 5
6 Radiologic Technology Program Expected Outcomes 1. 85% of the program graduates who take the Registry exam will pass the exam on their first attempt as evidenced by the ARRT exam results % of the employers will evaluate the graduate's performance as average to above average as evidenced by the employer survey % of the graduates will evaluate the program as above average as evidenced by the graduate survey. 4. *100% of the graduates who seek employment will find it within one to six months after completing the program % of students who enter the program will complete it within 24 months as evidenced by comparing the enrollment, retention and the completion data of the class % of the students will evaluate the radiology program as adequate in teaching course content, textbooks, curriculum, in all didactic and clinical classes. 04/2012 Page 6
7 Laredo Community College Radiologic Technology Program 2012/2013 Sponsorship Laredo Community College is a member of the Texas Junior College Association; the Texas Public Community/Junior College Association; the American Association of Community Colleges; the American Council on Education; The Association Texas Colleges and Universities; the American Society of Clinical Pathologists; the National Association of College and University Food Services; the Community College Leadership Institute; and the Association on Higher Education and Disability. Laredo Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. LCC is also accredited by: The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board The Texas Education Agency The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education The Texas Board of Nurse Examiners The Texas Department of Health Texas Department of Human Services, Nurse Aide Training The Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education. Laredo Community College s Educational Programs and Student Success Goals are to provide a comprehensive curriculum composed of certificate and degree programs that will engage students through persistence and unto graduation based on the educational needs of those the college serves. As a result of this goal, Laredo Community College provides the sponsorship for the Radiologic Technology program by providing financial support, the employment of appropriately credentialed, qualified faculty and support personnel, and the provision of the physical space and materials for the educational program. Laredo Community College maintains primary affiliation agreements with Laredo Medical Center, Laredo Medical Center-Ambulatory Care North, Laredo Medical Center- South Outpatient Diagnostic Center, Doctors Hospital, and Providence Hospital L.P., for the purpose of providing the clinical education component required by the Radiologic Technology Program. The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Organizations (JCAHO) and Medicaid/Medicare accredits Laredo Medical Center Health Systems, Doctors Hospital and Providence Hospital L.P. 04/2012 Page 7
8 Affiliation agreements between Laredo Community College and each clinical site are reviewed on an annual basis and revised as necessary. The affiliation agreements outline the responsibilities of each party with respect to the academic and clinical training of the Radiology Student. Laredo Medical Center currently has an in-patient bed capacity of 350 beds, which offers a full range of medical imaging services. The imaging department utilizes (1) Mammograhy Unit, (2) Special Procedures C-Arm rooms, (1) - DR Digital Radiography unit, (3) radiographic units, and (2) Philips Digital radiographic and fluoroscopy (R&F) units, (1) Emergency Room radiographic suite and (1) emergency trauma radiographic unit; all processing is Computed Radiography with multiple CR readers and printers. LMC houses (4) mobile C-Arm fluoroscopy units, and (4) mobile radiographic units; (2) Computerized Axial Tomography suite are utilized in the imaging department and (1) in the Cancer Therapy Center. The ultrasound department utilizes (7) diagnostic medical sonography units. The nuclear medicine department employs (2) dual head scintigraphic cameras and (1) Atomlab 950 Medical Spectrometer. The cancer center employs one Radiotherapy Linear Accelerator unit. The surgical suite is equipped with (1) Cystoradiographic room, (2) Interventional Special Procedures Digital Radiographic fluoroscopy unit, and a Cardiac Catherization suite utilizing (2) C-arm digital fluoroscope. The Magnetic Resonance Imagining department utilizes (1), 1.5 Tesla Gyroscan Phillips unit. The Emergency Department utilizes (1) DR radiographic unit. Laredo Medical Center is fully digitized and employs a state of the art picture archive and communication system. Laredo Medical Center Ambulatory Care North is an outpatient clinic, which offers a full range of medical imaging services. The imaging department if fully digitized and employs a state of the art picture archive and communication system with Computed Radiography with multiple CR readers and printers. Radiographic equipment employed: (1) Bone Density unit, (1) Radiography/Fluoroscopy room, (1) radiographic/tomographic unit, (1) dedicated chest radiography unit, (1) Dedicated upright ortho-radiography unit, (2) ultrasound units, (1) mobile C-Arm unit, (1) mammographic radiography unit, (1) Computer Axial Tomography, (1) MRI suite, and (1) Dual head scintigraphic nuclear medicine camera. The outpatient surgical suite is equipped with (1) Cystographic fluoroscopy/radiography unit and (1) mobile radiographic unit. Laredo Medical Center South Diagnostic Center is an outpatient clinic, which offers a full range of medical imaging services. It utilizes (1) Bone Density machine, (1) CT machine, (1) Mammographic unit, (2) Radiographic rooms, and 1 Ultrasonography unit. The imagining department is fully digitized and employs a state of the art picture archive and communication system. Laredo Medical Center, Zapata Texas has 1 Radiography Room. Laredo Medical Center, Hebbronville Texas, has (1) Radiography Room. Doctors Hospital is a 223 bed hospital which offers a full-range of medical services. Doctors imaging department utilizes (1) Radiography/Fluoroscopy room, (1) 04/2012 Page 8
9 Interventional Special procedures unit, (1), (1) radiographic/tomographic/upright bucky room, (4) mobile radiographic units, (2) mobile C-Arm units, (3) ultrasound units, (1) Computer Axial Tomography, (2) Dual head scintigraphic nuclear medicine units, and (1) 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imager, (1) mammography suite, and (1) dual energy x-ray absorptiometry unit. The surgical suite utilizes (1) C-Arm surgical unit, (1) Cystoradiographic/fluoroscopy room, and (1) Cardiac Catherization Radiographic/fluoroscopy unit. The cancer center employs one Radiotherapy Linear Accelerator unit. The imagining department if fully digitized and employs a state of the art picture archive and communication system. Providence Hospital L.P. is a surgical outpatient center that employs (1) Phillips Rad/Tomography unit, (1) Philips Rad/Fluoroscopy unit, (1) Philips CT scanner, (1) OEC- mobile C-arm unit, and (1) Mammography Philips unit, The imagining department if fully digitized and employs a state of the art picture archive and communication system.
