1 Student Name The Senior Internship Experience is almost here! We hope you have a valuable experience and learn a lot, not only about the career you are shadowing, but also about yourself and your future goals. Please read the following information carefully. If you have any questions, contact Ms. Day, Mrs. Vacca, Mrs. Dillon, or Mrs. Foust. Important Dates: 1. Your last full day of school at Nordonia High School is Thursday, May Between Friday, May 6 and Monday, May 23, you will be completing the 50 hours of internship required by the program. It is up to you to create a schedule for these hours. The actual dates are up to you and your mentor to agree upon. If you have not already done so, you need to contact your mentor and set up a work schedule!! 3. Prom / Senior Day is Friday, May 13. You need to be here at 7:45 AM in the auditorium. 4. Senior Project Presentations are on Tuesday, May 24. The schedule is attached. 5. Senior Farewell / Field Day is Thursday, May 26. You must come to school this day. Plan to report to school by 9 AM. You will receive more information about this day and graduation practice at your Senior Internship Presentation. Enjoy your last few days of school and have a great experience! We look forward to hearing all about it at your presentation on Tuesday, May 24.

2 Your responsibilities during the dates of the project: 1. Keep a log of hours. A copy of the log form is attached. 2. Keep journal entries of your experience. There should be a minimum of 6 journal entries for the project. Each entry should be words in length (handwritten or typed, your choice). Responses should represent significant reflection on the day s events. A sample journal page is attached. You may use it or create your own format for your journal. 3. Prepare for your final presentation on Tuesday, May 24 in the evening. The schedule for the presentations, as well as a handout detailing the final presentation guidelines is attached. You must attend this presentation to pass the internship and be eligible to graduate. 4. Once your experience has concluded, write a thank you letter to your mentor. Whether your experience was positive or negative, this person still spent valuable time out of their busy job to mentor you. The appropriate thing to do is send a letter thanking them for the experience. You will need to bring the following materials with you to your presentation on May 24: 1. Log of hours (included in this packet) 2. Journal 3. Visual aid for presentation 4. Mentor Evaluation (front and back included in this packet) 5. Student Evaluation (front and back included in this packet) If you change your mind and decide that you do not wish to participate in the internship, you must notify your school advisor and Mrs. Day in Room 302 no later than noon on May 4 so that your teachers can be notified to expect you in class until the last regular day for seniors.

3 Guidelines for the Final Presentation: The presentation panel will consist of staff members and may include the following: A. Advisor B. Principals or District Administrators C. Nordonia High School Staff Members D. Mentor E. Community Members *The presentation will be a minimum of three minutes and a maximum of five minutes in length and will be concluded with up to three minutes of questions from the audience. *The student internship journal should be utilized to create this presentation. Pictures may be submitted to be used for examples of future Senior Internship Projects. The presentation must include the following elements: An overview of your activities and responsibilities A discussion of what you learned (specific skills or procedures) and how you benefited from the Senior Internship Program What you learned about this career through this experience What you learned about yourself through this experience You must use at least ONE professional quality visual aid during your presentation. For example: Overhead projector Picture board(s) Video Audio tape(s) Portfolio or photo album Multimedia device(s) PowerPoint, web pages, smart board, etc. Props from the professions A student created product from the internship session Other as approved by Advisor

4 Senior Internship Project Journal The student is expected to keep a minimum of six journal entries during the Senior Project. Suggestions include work accomplished, skills acquired or honed, anticipated events, unusual events of the day, etc. Responses should represent significant reflection on the day s events. Each journal entry should be words. Students may use the form below (make copies as needed) or may use a personal journal or notebook.
