For more information please send to Asian Studies Minor Program Scholarship For information please contact Dr. Rueyling Chuang at Phone: Federal Student Aid and Scholarships Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) To apply for financial aid, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The application form is available around December of each year and may be mailed to the Federal Processor after January. All applicants should file as soon as possible after January 1. The application may be completed with accurate estimates of parents' (when required) and student's previous year income before tax returns are filed, but will need to be verified later with copies of the tax returns. The CSUSB Financial Aid Office will not process financial aid applications until the student has applied for admission. However, scholarship money is also available from organizations and sponsoring companies. 3 3 The Gilman Scholarship for Study Abroad For PELL Grant recipients in an accepted study abroad program. Recipients can receive up to either $3,000 for summer programs or $5,000 for Semester or Year programs. For more information, go to the website at: Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program The Gilman Program offers scholarship for students with financial need who have been underrepresented in education abroad. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study. The average award is $4,000. Undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at 2 year or 4 year colleges or universities are eligible to apply. Study Aboard students are eligible to receive an additional $3,000 for studying for the Critical Need Languages (Arabic, Chinese, Turkic, Persian, Indic, Korean, and Russian). For more information, visit Boren Scholarship and Fellowships (former National Security Education Program) Boren Scholarship gives up to $20,000 for undergraduate and $30,000 to graduate students depending on the cost and length of program to study less commonly taught language in the world regions, in the exchange for their commitment to seek work in the federal government. The Scholarship is funded by National Security Education Program. For more information, visit Boren Fellowships provide support up to $30,000 for graduate students at the master s and doctoral level of overseas and domestic study, in exchange for their commitment to seek work in the Federal government. Boren Fellowships support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interest, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin American, and the Middle East. For more information, visit Central Europe Summer Research Institute Sponsored by the National Science Foundation and managed by the Institute of International Education, CESRI is a fellowship opportunity for U.S. graduate students in science and engineering who are seeking a quality hands on international research experience in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia. The CESRI program will be 8 weeks in length. The first week is for orientation and the participants will spend the remaining 7 weeks working individually arranged placement in University labs or other sites under the supervision of European mentors. 4 4 Freeman ASIA (Freeman Awards for Study in Asia) is designed to support American undergraduates with demonstrated financial need who are planning to study overseas in East or Southeast Asia. The award is funded by Freeman Family. CHINA/TAIWAN Wang Family Scholarship Ten $4,000 scholarships will be awarded to students for study at selected universities in China, and ten $4,000 scholarships will be awarded to students for study at selected universities in Taiwan. Scholarship recipients must also apply and be admitted to study abroad with IP in China or Taiwan. to JAPAN Bridging Scholarship for Study in Japan Undergraduate students majoring in any field of study are eligible to apply for these scholarships. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must be enrolled as undergraduates in a college or university in the United States before and during the time they are studying abroad. Bridging Scholarship recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Students studying in Japan on summer programs are not eligible to apply. Morgan Stanley Japan Scholarship Underscoring its long term commitment to education and fostering US Japan relations, Morgan Stanley, which has had a presence in Japan for more than 35 years, is proud to support the US Japan Foundation s Bridging Project for Study Abroad in Japan. Bridging Scholarship application forms and information can be found at: National Scholarships/Japanese Government (Monbugakusho) Scholarships: formally administrated by AIEJ (Association of International Education, Japan) These scholarships cover all the expenses for university study in Japan. Application is through the Japanese Embassy or through a Japanese University for both undergraduate and graduate students planning to study abroad in Japan. The deadline for applications is usually in early February of each year, for studies commencing in April.
5 5 Ward Wallach Memorial International Scholarship Available to IP students selected for Japan only, the award is $500 per year. Students accepted to study in Japan on the IP program would automatically be considered for this scholarship. Selection will be based on financial need and a commitment to the study of the Japanese language and civilization as demonstrated in the regular IP application. No additional application materials are necessary. For more information please send an to mlagos@csusb.edu GERMANY Baden Wüttemberg Fellowship The State of Baden Wüttemberg provides a limited number of fellowships to students for study in Germany. The minimum monthly installment is 400 Euros per month. The fellowships can be awarded for up to 11 months. Students from all academic fields are welcome to apply. All applicants must have completed at least four semesters of German prior to departure. Priority is give to students from universities that have formal ties to German universities in the state of Baden Wüttemberg. Therefore, your application must be sent to Germany by the Office of International Programs (OIP). Submit your letter of application to your campus IP Coordinator by February 1. Eight scholarships are available to UK students studying abroad in the USA or Canada and a further eight scholarships are available to North American students studying in the UK. Visit Global Engineering Education Exchange Program Global Engineering Education Exchange Program is an international exchange program for engineering and computer science students at member institutions. The program offers the opportunity for American students to study in one of 17 countries overseas, and for international students at partner campuses to study in the United States. 6 6 The scholarship programs administered by HACU are made possible due to generous contributions from corporate and federal organizations. To be eligible to apply for one of HACU s scholarships, students must be attending a HACU Member or Partner college or university (visit for a complete listing) and meet all additional criteria for the program to which they are applying. Some programs may be available for high school seniors intending to enroll in a HACU member institution in the Fall. HACU uses one scholarship application for the several different programs it administers. Program criteria will vary based on the requirements of the funding organization, e.g., specific major, level of study, college/university, region of the country, etc. Scholarship amounts also vary depending on the program, usually ranging from $500 $2,000 per year. Most of the scholarships are not renewable. Although students may apply for more than one program, they are encouraged to apply to the program for which they best qualify. Scholarships materials are sent to the Financial Aid Office at HACU Member and Partner colleges and universities and also to other contacts HACU has at its member institutions. scholarships.hacu.net and can be completed on line. Hispanic/Cisneros Study Abroad Scholarship The Cisneros Study Abroad Scholarship is a special scholarship offered as part of the Hispanic Study Abroad Scholars program. This program provides 1,000 Euro (approximately $1,250) in scholarship monies per student and is in addition to the HSAS. Knowledge Exchange Scholarships The KEI Scholarship Program offers awards of $500 to $1,000 US per term. KEI Scholarship applications are evaluated on the basis of merit and need. To be considered, students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate leadership potential, be involved in extracurricular activities and show financial need. 7 7 Takis Chrysanthou Achievement Scholarship Global Learning Semesters offers the Takis Chrysanthou Achievement Scholarship to one student each semester. The student must be attending a semester long program that is homebased in Cyprus. The scholarship winner is selected based on academic merit, expected contribution to the group experience, and financial need. 2,500 USD direct grant that is credited against program fees is awarded each semester. In order to be eligible for this scholarship a student must first be accepted into a semester long Global Learning Semesters program based in Cyprus and then send us the following: *A copy of his or her latest FAFSA *A list of expected financial aid from other sources *An essay, not to exceed 600 words, describing what he or she will contribute to the group experience on the program. Please visit this website for more information: The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship Academic Year Ambassadorial Scholarships provide a flat grant of $25,000 for one academic year of study in another country. These awards are intended to help defray costs associated with round trip transportation, tuition and other fees, room and board, and some educational supplies. They are the most common type of Ambassadorial Scholarships. Multi Year Ambassadorial Scholarships help fund two years of degree oriented study in another country. A flat grant of $12,500 is provided each year. Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships help finance either three or six months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country. They provide a flat grant of $12,000 for three months and $17,000 for six months. Funds are intended to offset costs associated with round trip transportation, language training, and home stay living arrangements. Applications are considered for candidates interested in studying Arabic, English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, and Swedish. Whitaker International Fellows and Scholar Program This program is for Biomedical Engineers from graduating seniors through post doctorate. Potential overseas activities could include: conducting research at an academic institution, interning at a policy institute, establishing ties between home and host institutions, and pursuing post doctoral research.
