You ll go home at the end of the week knowing things that will totally impress your family and friends not just how to build a one match fire but how about a no match fire with a fire piston or bow drill? How about lashing together some furniture from sticks and ropes? Pitch a tent in record time blindfolded? And learn how to find your way to civilization using a map and compass, GPS systems, and maybe even to navigate by the sun and stars! With your trained guides, learn the techniques and safety skills, and then head onward and upward! You ll learn about harness and helmet fitting, rope and equipment care, belaying skills, and get experience climbing on the low team challenge course, climbing wall, challenge tower, and maybe even take a run down the zipline! When not in your harness you ll have times to enjoy all the rest of camp like swimming, hiking, s mores, music, target sports and more! This session will explore how to prepare some designer imposters that you ll recognize from your favorite restaurants and decadent desserts you ll be proud to prepare for your family and friends when you return from camp! As you go, you will gather a series of clues that will point you in the direction of your 2 night MYSTERY TRIP to a location NOT at camp. This is going to be an exceptional experience you ll have time to really experience everything we have to offer at Misty Mountain, make amazing lifelong friends, and create memories you ll have for a lifetime! This session is for girls who can comfortably control a horse at the canter and have had previous jumping instruction. You will spend time in the barn learning about advanced horse care skills and show horse preparation. In the ring, they will improve their equitation; learn about the difference between hunters, jumpers and other English jumping disciplines and practice techniques and exercises used to prepare for competition in each. Show off your new skills with a trip to a nearby horse show venue to practice schooling your horse in a competition atmosphere and maybe even enter some classes! Spend time away from the barn participating in all the other activities Camp Misty Mountain has to offer, such as archery, swimming, canoeing, challenge tower and more. Prerequisites: You must be able to canter in an English saddle and have received previous jumping instruction. You should bring a pair of beige or khaki riding pants and solid colored polo shirt. 7 If you are an experienced rider and currently capable of riding the posting trot/sitting trot or jog, then you will love this one week session featuring riding plus the fun of planning, preparing for, and participating in a ride to the Misty Mountain outpost campsite. During the week at camp you ll participate in several lessons including riding skills, ground school, and stable management, and enjoy other camp activities such as swimming, boating, and more. On your overnight trip you ll enjoy helping the instructors care for the horses in an open meadow, set up camp, and cook the evening meal over a campfire. Sleep in a tent or under the stars. In the morning you ll catch, tack, and ride your horse back to camp. This is an EXCELLENT session for the young woman who is ready to put all her equine skills together for an awesome overnight experience. Prerequisites: You must have strong horse handling skills, be capable of tacking and untacking your horse, and be capable of riding the trot on the trail. You must plan on participating in a riding checkout date at Misty Mountain in the spring. Happy Trails National Destination CABIN Session: Destination Dates: 7/26-8/2 Grades: 6-12 Can t get enough of soft muzzles, flowing manes, quiet knickers, and the thrill of riding new trails on horseback? This is your opportunity to surround yourself with everything equine! Explore the Chattahoochee National Forest in northwest Georgia from your saddle. Gather with 24 other Girl Scouts who are passionate about horses to explore on horseback the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Start your equestrian adventure by planning and preparing for an overnight trail ride to the Misty Mountain Outpost. Look forward to caring for your horse in an open meadow, setting up camp, and cooking meals over a campfire. In addition to trail riding, participate in riding lessons in the arena, equestrian workshops, and other camp fun and adventure. Happy Trails is part of the national Destination program and will consist of young women from Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta and from Girl Scout Councils across the country. Prerequisites: Must be years old at the time of the event, Confident in the presence of horses, on the ground and in the saddle. Minimum riding requirement: control at the trot. This program will help you develop your leadership skills as well as polish your riding and horse care knowledge. Top Skills to be Learned: WIT -- able to control a horse at a walk (turns, circle, reverse), able to control their horse at a trot (turn, circle), able to control their horse at a stop, how to lope even if not able to, able to lead individually, able to tie a quick release knot, how to teach a quick release knot, how to teach leading a horse, parts of tack, able to tack individually, able to bridle individually, able to teach parts of tack (western OR english), able to mount and dismount unassisted, correct position, able to teach correct position, how to teach control of a horse at a walk and stop (turns and circles), able to teach either horse colors or breeds, know types of feed, know how and when to feed, able to feed, general horse and burro themed

Counselor Interns will learn the finer points of working with campers for extended periods. You will spend time interning alongside a mentor counselor helping with the day-to-day leadership for a group of campers. The Counselor Intern is a Leadership Camper role as opposed to a staff role. Prerequisites: Successful completion of Counselor In Training I, Counselor In Training II or Wrangler in Training.
