2 Good Prospects for the Workshop Equipping Indus - try The upswing phase of the German economy last year was reflected in the positive devel - opments for automotive and service equippers: 2011 was a good business year for the industry and the forecasts for 2012 are heading in the same positive direction. Changes to 29 of the German Road Regulations and to the Official Emission Test Guide lines as well as the introduction of the new refrigerant are aspects that will posi - tively influence the demand for garage equipment products. Thus, the brake tester directive became effective on October 1, It is the answer to the increased demands placed on the brake systems of mod ern vehicles. These amended statutory provisions ensure the high quality of brake testing during the official main inspection. The continuous development of vehicle technology also significantly contributes to increasing the demand for workshop equipment as well as the adaption of national guidelines to fit with European legislation. And the sound economic policy of the fed - eral government sets the groundwork for sending the proper impulses at the right time. 4 NEWS I For a Clean Environment MAHA Introduces Energy Management The workshop equipper from the Allgäu region sets new standards in the industry for energy efficiency Since December 2011 Maha Maschinenbau Haldenwang GmbH & Co. KG has been certified in accordance with DIN EN 16001:2009. Thus, the workshop outfitter from Allgäu is one of the first companies in the industry to introduce an energy management system based on European standards. The maha greenline product line emphasizes the involvement of the workshop outfitter for better environmental protection. By the year 2020 the federal government wants to reduce CO2 emissions in Germany by 40 % in comparison to 1990 levels. This can only be achieved through more efficient energy usage. Using an energy management system in accord - ance with DIN EN 16001:2009 companies can improve their energy efficiency there by making a significant contribution to environmental protection. Sustainable Environmental Policy MAHA Maschinenbau Haldenwang GmbH & Co. KG is one of the first companies in the workshop outfitting industry that has been certified in accordance with these standards. With the certification in accordance with DIN EN 16001: 2009 we are continuing down the path already set of pursuing a sustainable environmental policy. Again we are setting important trends in the industry and meeting the demands that leading automobile manufacturers place on their suppliers, says Klaus Burger, MAHA Managing Director. An important milestone on the path to an energy efficient company was the introduction of the enviromental man - agement in accordance with ISO 14001: 2004 in With this the MAHA man - agement created a tool that makes possible environmentally friendly production in all areas of the company. Furthermore, within the context of the Climate Protection Initiative of the Fe - deral Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Reactor Safety MAHA participates in the energy efficiency network of the Energy and En - vironmental Center Allgäu (eza). In addition to information exchanges across all industries this platform offers tips and suggestions to improve energy efficien - cy in the company and is a pilot project associated with the Fraunhofer Institute. As part of the certification process in accordance with DIN EN 16001:2009 MAHA has implemented numerous measures to reduce energy consumption. For example, the powder paint coating system was insulated to reduce heat loss. In addition, the roof of the production hall was renovated in relation to energy savings and a 270 kw photovoltaik system was install - ed. In this way MAHA can produce some of the electric energy it needs and feed it back into the grid. The company s own fleet will be equipped with environmentally friendly electric vehicles. At the end of April 2012 the DIN EN 16001:2009 will be replaced by the international standard DIN EN ISO 50001: MAHA has already initiated all nec essary measures in order to switch to the new standard without delay. New Product line maha green line The DIN EN 16001:2009 certification also has an effect on MAHA products. Energy efficiency and environmental aspects were in the forefront during the devel - opment of the innovative emission tes t er series MET 6.x in both choice of material and electrical consumption. Furthermore, MAHA will focus on energy efficiency with future products from development through production up to customer usage. Products which meet these criteria will belong to the maha green line and be labeled as such. 5 MAHA Becomes a Foundation I NEWS Decisions with Vision MAHA When a Foundation Makes Sense 5th of December 2011 a date that will surely go down in the history of the company. On this day, MAHA owners Winfried and Emma Rauch transferred their company to the nonprofit Family Rauch Foundation and the family foundation titled Family Rauch. With the highest degree of social responsibility Winfried and Emma Rauch have placed their life s work in a foun - dation. With entry and final legal exe - cution of the Family Foundation Family Rauch and the non-profit Family Rauch Foundation in the Bavarian Foundation Register Winfried and Emma Rauch have transferred their company shares to the foundation. They have then completely and irrevocably relinquished their ownership of the company. Winfried Rauch serves on the multi-member Board of Trustees of the Family Foundation which holds the voting rights. In contrast, the company shares are placed in the nonprofit foundation. This makes a sale or takeover of the company impossible. Making business decisions based on farsightedness has been Winfried Rauch s recipe for success. From its founding in 1969 MAHA Maschinenbau Haldenwang GmbH & Co. KG has established itself as an internationally known and largest workshop outfitter. Today it now holds the position as the world s most powerful manufacturer of vehicle test stands for all purposes. This decision gives us the certainty and security that even in difficult economic times the continuation of the company is possible. In the past decades Winfried and Emma Rauch have always focused their decisions on the secure existence of the company, social responsibility, the Haldenwang location and connected to this the welfare of all the employees. The company is headquartered near Hoerdt, 10 km from Straßburg. The activities of a local dealer who had sold MAHA equipment for over 20 years was continued through the founding of this subsidiary. Benoît Baulinet Benoît Baulinet, Managing Director of MAHA France S.A.R.L since 2011 is respon sible, together with a 21-member strong team for maintaining its position as No. 1 in the industry. Ltd. was founded in December 2008 in Beijing making it MAHA Maschinenbau Haldenwang GmbH & Co. KG. s young - est subsidiary. Xiu Chunlin Xiu Chunlin, Managing Director of Maschinenbau (Beijing) Trading Co. Ltd. since 2008, works together with 22 employees everyday to expand market share: 17 employees in administration and sales work to fulfill customer wishes with the remaining 5 as mobile service engineers. Two representative offices of MAHA Maschinenbau (Beijing) Trading Co. Ltd. in Beijing and Shanghai, control the entire sales in China, der Mongolia and North Korea. Managing Director Xiu Chunlin and both his sales managers, Betty Lu (Shanghai) and Desheng Wulf (Beijing) coordinate all sales activities in this rap - idly rotating market with sensitivity and vision. 12 INDUSTRY I For More Safety in Poland Advanced Poland Shock Absorber Test: For More Safety Poland recognized long ago the life threatening dangers that defective shock absorbers can pose for drivers of motor vehicles and integrated the shock absorber test into the periodic vehicle inspection program. The necessary technical equipment for this comes from MAHA: the MSD 3000 is a shock absorber tester for cars and vans up to an axle load of 2.5 t. Shock absorbers are essential components of cars. But they do their work unseen and herein lies the danger. The changes to driving characteristics is a slow process and the driver gets used to these changes. Defective shock absorbers mean that there is no longer any contact between the tires and the pavement of the road. This means that evasive steering movements as corrective actions are no longer directly transferred on to the road. The risk of accidents increases. With the integration of the shock absorb - er test into the periodic vehicle inspection Poland is contributing significantly to more safety on Poland s roads and with this a drastic reduction in accidents. The technical prerequisites for this come from MAHA. S. Kedzia, Technical Director of MAHA Poland has invested incredible amounts of time, dedication and effort to get the appropriate approval from the TDT agency for MSD With success. Under Approval Number , issued to MAHA Poland, MSD 3000 can now be officially used as a shock absorb - er tester. In future the MSD 3000 will replace the suspension tester FWT and the shock absorber tester SA 2. The process will be completed in the coming weeks. 14 PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE I Innovative Developments Neat and Clean Innovative Solutions for Emission Testing The dangers posed by emissions for humans and the environment are enormous. Laws and innovative technologies are tools to get this global problem under control. MAHA has been aware of this issue for a long time now and has successfully positioned modern devices on the market for emission measurement. Workshops have been given the chance to expand their service offerings, op - erate competitively and at the same time not lose sight of responsible environmental awareness. Exhaust gases are among the most dangerous components of particulate matter, 20 % of the particulate matter is highly toxic. This means that only with the use of highly sensitive measurement methods a drastic reduction of particle emission can be achieved long term. From the time of the official diesel inspection introduction in 1993 up to today there have been massive development leaps in vehicle technology to which the respective testing technology needs to be adapted. The urgent up - dating and modernization of the emission inspection is essential. As a pioneer of innovative ideas and solutions MAHA has the right answers: the opacimeter of the second generation emerged as the logical development of the classical opacimeter. They are quite capable of keep - ing pace with high demands of the automobile industry. The MET 6.1 was developed for the Otto motors. The gasoline emission tester of the MET series has received approval by the PTB. (Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt). The approval also includes the assessment in accordance with the European MID- (Measurement Instrument Directive) Guidelines. This means that the emission analyzer model MET 6.1 can be used in all European countries for official emission testing. Prerequisite for this is that country-specific requirements for the software regarding test procedure and documentation are in compliance. 14

15 CO, CO2, HC, O2, NOx (Lambda) are identified with the MET 6.1. The MET 6.1 has many advantages, which can be explained by its excellent everyday suitability: light weight, compact design, stationary use operation via vehicle onboard power mobile use cable-free OBD module comfortable usage LAN interface connection to commercially available PC optional: cable-free W-LAN interface The MET 6.1 of course meets the highest accuracy class 0 in accordance with OIML. Soot emitted by diesel engines represents a dangerous risk for the health of people. The currently approved measurement technology for official emission testing can no longer sufficiently measure diesel engine emissions. Outdated approval and testing guidelines are to blame. The new emission measurement device generation from MAHA also includes a diesel emission tester, the MET 6.2 and a combitester, the MET 6.3. In the field of diesel emission measurement technology MAHA relies on the accurate and high-tech laser scattered light measurement technology which is greatly suited for advanced diesel vehicles. This measurement technology can identify even the smallest soot particles which diesel engines with direct injection systems tend to emit. Particles which are larger than 70 nm are detected and determined in the emission flow by means of laser beam, which is completely impossible for a conventional opacimeter. So it makes no sense to use this type of opacimeter for the exact testing of emission behavior. The MET 6.3 is capable of measuring turbidity value and particle concentration. Therefore, it is suitable for official emission testing and for testing of particle filters. The technology of the new Opacimeter II differs fundamentally from the technol - ogy used in standard opacimeters. The laboratory and test procedures used to date by the PTB cannot be used for the approval of the laser scattered light device. The new measurement technology requires a special test laboratory and the preparation of a new test procedure for the approval of the device. The PTB is currently expanding the test laboratory and refining the approval procedure for the laser scattered light device. This expansion of the laboratory and clarification of technical questions requires more time. As it looks now the approval of the first laser scattered light measurement de - vices will be at the end of The emission inspection contributes sig - nificantly to environmental protection. That means that with every improvement to the official emission inspection the dangers caused by emitted emission are reduced. KG. In this function he is responsible for all prod - uct areas and reports directly to senior management. With this important personnel decision the Allgäu workshop outfitter has expanded its activities in the field of research and development to further strengthen its international market position. Frank Beaujean is a graduate engineer (Polytechnic College) in electrical engineering and has worked, since his computer science studies at the University of Passau, in the workshop outfitting indus - try for over 15 years now. His profession - al career positions have led him to INES Elektrotechnik GmbH in Mühldorf to Beissbarth GmbH in Munich and finally to Snap-on Equipment GmbH in Unterneukirchen. There he most recently served as product manager for Testing. For more than three years now, the 46 year old has been Chairman of the ASA Task Force Test Stands and since last fall is Chairman of EGEA WG 6 (Brake and Suspension Testers). Apprentices from MAHA in all educational directions are represented at the apprenticeship exchange. They report about interesting details of their training at MAHA to interested young people and their parents. They also participate in the assembly of a model car to show what can be achieved, with support of trainers, with creativity. The support of MAHA in finding the right profession goes much further: pupils have the chance to gain real impressions about their desired profession during an internship at the company. Last year alone, 90 young people took advantage of this offer and learned about the everyday goings on in their dream profession with - in the context of an internship. C. in TV Show Kelvin Locklear, owner of K&L Chrome - South Carolina and his wife April are the main characters in Outcast Kus - toms, a show which will be broadcast weekly in the next years in America on the Discovery Velocity Channel. The series will start in March of this year. A broadcast in 2014 is planned for Europe. 18 GENERAL INFORMATION I Trade Fair Presence in India The Right Time at the Right Place MAHA at the Auto Expo in India As a Global Player MAHA knows exactly where strategically important points can be found in the world. They know when it makes sense to show more presence due to an economic upswing. India is one of those countries, which, in the meantime, has joined the club as one of the ten largest economies in the world. MAHA Maschinenbau Haldenwang GmbH & Co. KG already reacted in 2010 by establishing the subsidiary MAHA India Automotive Testing Equipment Private Limited headquartered in Delhi. Now MAHA has used the chance to further expand its market share in India by participating in the automobile exhibition Auto Expo, which took place in January 2012 in New Delhi. India is a huge growth market not only for the German automobile industry, but also for the supply industry. Some figures show this development impressively: in the last 6 years the export volume increased tenfold. Alone in 2011 the export of German cars to India increased by 70%! This has caused the German automobile manufacturers to continuously increase their presence in India. Manufacturers such as Audi, BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen and Skoda produce some of the car models of their product series in India. This trend was clearly communicated at the AutoExpo in New Delhi and Made in Germany was heavily weighted toward the German pavillion as part of the official foreign trade fair program. The increase of no less than 80% in exhibition participation was impressive: 36 suppliers exhibited at the official German pavillion. In addition to this was the exhibition presence of the German automobile manufacturers and large suppliers. This year is Germany s year in India. And the German exhibitors had the largest national pavilion at Auto Expo! The growth of the German brands on the Indian market is enormous. In 2011 they were able to double their market share over the previous year s numbers. Particularly impressive is the sales rate growth of 80%in the premium segment. But also in the field of compact cars which accounts for one third of the total Indian car market a sales increase of 70% could be achieved. The supply industry will benefit from this positive development too, as the improvement of active vehicle safety is an ongoing topic in India. MAHA India has a big task to do: it is their job to introduce and make the MAHA brand known in its whole product range and service offerings with test organizations (PTI). It is essential to raise awareness for safety, quality, efficiency and practicality, to respond to country-specif ic circumstances and to offer individual solutions. 1.2 billion people live in an area of about 3,287,590 km². About 34% are illiterate. India is a country in south - ern Asia which includes most of the Indian subcontinent. The Himalayas form the natural northern border of India and the Indian Ocean in the south embraces the southern border. India borders Pakistan, the autonomous Chinese region of Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar (Burma) and Bangladesch. Other neighboring countries in the Indian Ocean include Sri Lanka and the Maledives. India is a major exporter of raw materials, finished products and workers. With a large pool of well trained professionals, software products and programmers are plentiful. The most important export commodities are textiles, clothing, processed and polished gems, jewelry, chemicals, petroleum products, leather goods and software products. In comparison: In India for every 1,000 inhabitants there are 14 cars. This number will increase from 14 to 30 at the beginning of the next decade. By 2013 it is projected that the Indian car market will have a higher volume than the German car market. And by the end of the decade automobile sales will explode upward: it is said that over 5 million cars will be sold. The potential customer base in India is enormous. Of a population of 1.2 billion over 60 % are younger than 30. Even today, 2 % of the Indian population can afford to buy a new car. And the income-strong middle class continues to grow with the economic upswing.
