2 Welcome! In the years to come Norway will have a huge demand for skilled labour. The Goverment has a strategy reaching far beyond 2018 to enhance vocational training. One of the most important milestones in this strategy is hosting the EuroSkills event. With full support of the Norwegian Goverment, I welcome EuroSkills 2018! 4 Highlights of the Bid WorldSkills Norway has many years of experience with both EuroSkills and WorldSkills Competitions as Members and participants. We host our own Nationals every second year with about 300 Competitors. We know what you need in order to perform well for your teams: You will experience a compact competition with everything in 5-10 minutes walking distance from hotells/competitors Village to the Venue. Once there, no busses, no trains for the Competition, the Opening or Closing Ceremony. Your participation costs will not be exceeding other possible host countries. In fact, we are at the same level of EuroSkills Lille 2014 with more meals included! Packages ranging from from very reasonable prices to more costly but all with high quality content. Exciting added activities to extend and enhance your over-all outcome. The EuroSkills Relay Competition to promote your national activities and school competitions before the event, High-Level Conferences to take VET Policies further, Demonstration Skill: Green Skills Perspective VET delivery for a sustainable future, and more. Norway has a well developed and regulated system for cooperation between government and the Social Partners with Employers and Employees Organisations. We share the interest in a high quality competition. The Lillehammer Olympic Park already has vast experience as a venue for large events. In addition, WSN Extensive training programmes will ensure qualified personell for all your Competitions. Skills and dreams A common challenge for European schools is not just attracting more applicants to vocational studies, but also reducing the dropout rate among students who have started their studies. 6 Welcome to Lillehammer Small town big skills Lillehammer is a mere 90-minute drive from the Oslo International Airport. A small town, but with world-class expertise in organizing major events. Since the Olympic Winter Games in 1994, we have hosted more than 60 World Cup events and 13 World or European Championships in various sports. In addition to annually organizing the Nordic countries largest literature festival, Lillehammer hosts the world s largest off-road bicycle and ski races, Birkebeinerrittet and Birkebeinerrennet. In all, the two events attract more than 30,000 participants to the region every year. EuroSkills will take the town by storm Lillehammer s compactness offers two tremendous advantages. First of all, there is little need for transport to get around. A 10-minute walk from the middle of town gets you to the train station, most of the hotels and to the main event area in the Olympic Park. The second advantage is that an event of this magnitude will take the town by storm. With its diversity and atmosphere, EuroSkills will reach into every corner of the community, making the championships truly a popular festival of people and activities. Johnsen Mayor of Lillehammer The Youth Olympics 2016 The Youth Olympic Games are a sporting event for young people, balancing sport, culture and education. The Culture and Education Programme (CEP) is a fully integrated part of the Youth Olympic Games. This fundamental component of the YOG is a unique opportunity for athletes and participants from all over the world to share experiences, build new skills and learn about community values. It would be interesting to explore possible synergies with EuroSkills concerning the education programme. The Youth Olympics and EuroSkills share the same target group and the same main venue. The Olympics will in this respect be the ultimate rehearsal for a possible event in 2018, testing out security and infrastructure. 7 Compact event Competitions and accommodation, for both competitors and officials, are located within just a few minutes walk. That means less time traveling an more time to enjoy the event. If you want to visit the shops and cafés in the town centre, its a 10-minutes walk or take the shuttle bus. 7

8 The EuroSkills Program EuroSkills 2018 in Norway will first and foremost showcase the best European vocational talents in competition. But it is also important to create parallell programes to make the main event even more attractive for audiences such as politicians, corporate representative and educational institutions. 10 Other Events EuroSkills 2018 Prior to Event: Mobility Development Project : Green Perspective in Skills Demonstration Competition EuroSkills 2018 A Green Perspective in existing Skills. We choose 4-5 Vocational Skills and analyse what operations are particularly suitable for minimizing environmentally footprints. A Demonstration Skills Competition in Greens Skills Perspective is to be tested at the Norwegian National Competition in 2016 and then finally set up at EuroSkills Relay Skills Competition Join the longest running Skills Competition ever! How can we maximize the effect of what we are already doing in all the Member Countries and then just add a little extra? By organising the longest running Skills Competition ever. To participate: Organize a Skills Competition. To prove and document the activity, up-load a simple video recording of the Event on You Tube or Vimeo. Your part of the Relay Skills Competition will then be shown on the Event Website through YouTube or Vimeo. We hope to link all the video clips into one continuous massive Skills Competition Show that run for as long as we have footage, and perhaps we make a new record signed in at Guinness Book of Records? Erasmus + Skills Mobility Program Preparing for Excellence Competitors Training Programme This Erasmus + Mobility Project aims to create training possibilities for EuroSkills Candidates to prepare for excellence in their performance and Skills, both mentally and physically. WSN already have a close relation to our national Olympic organisation that we hope to develop further by tapping into their unique competence and making use of their very suitable facilities to host work-shops etc. in Oslo. Given WSE Member Interest: Involving of disabled young persons Yes, we can! Develop a feasible way to integrate disabled young people into some of the Competitions, either to Compete or to promote opportunities for disabled young people to manage and excel in Skills. WSN and WorldSkills Europe Members can cooperate with the Norwegian NGO Young Handicapped and other organisations on how to best go about the task. Parallel to Event: Community projects with focus on Skills and environmental sustainability - involving small and easy to set up projects in the city centre that will demonstrate various Skills and trigger people to visit the Event. 18 Visit Norway There are mountains plunging into the sea from hundreds of metres, fjords, tall mountain peaks, northern lights and midnight sun. Norway is a country of endless rivers and powerful waterfalls which have contributed to making the country known abroad. Twenty-one national parks provide nature lovers the opportunity to enjoy untouched nature. Norway s glaciers stretch out their white caps across mountain tops, especially towards the west and northern areas of the country. For the lover of animal wildlife, there are of course different types of photo safaris, including moose safaris, musk ox, whale, beaver, and eagle safaris. As to Norway s rich birdlife this makes the country a good place for birdwatching. 18

You will find excellent museums and galleries, Olympic venues, a large number of restaurants and wide selection of shops and accommodation. Though the Lillehammer region is most famous for its ski terrain and excellent winter sport facilities, its surroundings are also perfect for summer adventures. If you re an adrenaline junkie try out bobsleigh on wheels in the olympic bob and luge track or downhill biking in Hafjell. 19
