2 At North, we believe. We believe in the talents that lie within each and every Mustang. Some students discovered their specific talents years ago...some are still searching. It is our hope that we can provide every opportunity for students to recognize these talents and to let them shine. That s part of the passion behind our clubs and sports. Students are encouraged to participate in at least one extra-curricular activity outside of school, where they can meet like-minded individuals and become physically and mentally involved in positive ways. Sponsors will work with students to build positive relationships in an area of common interest. There are many opportunities to be involved a variety of activities from Art to Wrestling. Activities are available before and after school with some starting as early as July and others as late as May. In this booklet you ll be informed of the various opportunities, with a defined purpose stated for each club, and information as it relates to dates, times, materials, and fees. Seize these opportunities! Challenge your perspectives! Get involved and engaged in being a Mustang! You won t be sorry. In fact, you ll probably wonder why you didn t try some of these activities sooner! We welcome your involvement!

6 KENTUCKY YOUTH ASSEMBLY STAFF MEMBERS: Jennifer Terry Janet Gruenberg PURPOSE: Youth in government program designed to provide hands-on experience in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches of government MEETINGS: Weekly MONTHS: September-December, Conference in December KENTUCKY UNITED NATIONS ASSEMBLY (KUNA) STAFF MEMBERS: Jennifer Terry Janet Gruenberg PURPOSE: To provide students with a greater appreciation for our global community through involvement with international issues and solutions MONTHS: September March MEETINGS: Weekly, Conference in March

7 FELLOWSHIP OF CHRISTIAN ATHLETES Mark Eaton Leah Stormont PURPOSE: To provide an opportunity for like-minded individuals to build relationships with one another and to encourage making positive choices MONTHS: August May TBA WRESTLING TEAM PURPOSE: To have an opportunity to develop wrestling skills in a competitive setting MEETINGS: They will practice two or three times a week with some home and away matches. Some of the away matches will be on Saturdays. MONTHS: Starting Mid-November to February

Normally 6-8 meets make up the season.

13 BETA CLUB Grades 7,8 STAFF MEMBERS: Janet Gruenberg Karen Letendre PURPOSE: A national honor/service organization that promotes the ideals of character, service and leadership. Members are invited to join based upon academic achievement and recommendations. MEETINGS: Bi-Weekly MONTHS: September May CROSS COUNTRY STAFF MEMBERS: Carmen Taylor- ttaylorme@bellsouth.net PURPOSE: To help students improve their stamina and long distance running ability for high school MEETS: Every Saturday from late August late October PRACTICES: 3 days per week, late July through early November

19 ART CLUB Germaine Russo Kari Haan PURPOSE: To have fun and create individual art furniture, paper mache, and ceramics are just some of the fun things we will do MONTHS: October April MEETINGS: Every other week STUDENT FEE: $10.00 First :LEGO League Grade 6,7,8 Judy Lamoreux PURPOSE: FLL is designed to get children excited about science and technology -- and teach them valuable employment and life skills. Teams of up to 10 kids program an autonomous robot (using a LEGO MIND- STORMS robot set) to score points on a thematic playing surface, create an innovative solution to a problem as part of their Project, all while guided by the FLL Core Values. These three elements - the Robot Game, Project, and FLL Core Values - make up what we call our yearly Challenge. MONTHS: Sept - March MEETINGS: Weekly STUDENT FEE: TBD
