2 What do you want to study? To design sports equipment, learn a new language, work as a journalist, contemporary artist? This region offers almost unlimited educational options. Trondheim is the Top University City in Norway, featuring among others, NTNU a university of international renown. The Mid-Sweden University has campuses in both Sundsvall and Östersund the most recent university in Sweden. Each town has its own speciality; Sundsvall within media and communications, Östersund within tourism, sports and experience technology and Trondheim within technological research and development. They all have in common high quality education and close partnerships with the business sector. Students who wish to alternate their town of study can take part in the exchange programme. The region can provide every-thing you need in order to become whatever you want. On your way there, you can also have fun and live a good life, all year round.

3 You can be in the centre of the action with a busy nightlife, study in the park or head off for adventures. You can rock climb, go hiking, play beach volley with your mates, paddle a canoe, go dog sledding, horseback riding, skiing; all of this in the area itself! The cultural events and nightlife are exceptionally rich. Each of the towns has its own festival; Storsjöyran in Östersund, is the greatest street festival in Sweden and in Trondheim, Olavsfestdagene, is the most important cultural festival in Norway! Sundsvall calls its street festival a proper mishmash of Rio and Woodstock. In addition to the nightlife, the students unions offer various activities. Thanks to the collaboration between the universities, what is available to you is all the greater.

4 Housing is not a problem either since the region guarantees housing for students. How is that possible? It s because you are important. An additional comfort is that the Norwegians as well as the Swedes use English as the second language in work and education as well as in their spare time. The education programmes run in close collaboration with the business sector, offering you the chance of a good start to your career once you have finished your studies. There are job opportunities within most sectors. Growth in the region is strong and each individual will find opportunities to suit his or her capabilities. If you want to start a company, the local authorities will offer guidance and support.

5 SUNDSVALL Population: Approximately Number of students: About Particular strength: A students town where the companies, the local authority and the university give priority to the students. Example of education programmes: Civil Engineer in Technological Design 180 credit points. The Civil Engineer Technological Design programme uses a lot of team work in order to formulate and solve problems in theory and in practise. The Mid-Sweden University has chosen the applications Recreational Design and Design in Human Care. The Civil Engineer Technological Design programme is designed to meet the market s demands for civil engineers trained to think and work in accordance with the principles of design methodology. The Journalism programme The Mid-Sweden University has educated journalists for 15 years. Today our former students are working for various media companies all over Sweden. The programme has a very good reputation in the media industry. The programme gives knowledge, skills, current affairs studies and critical training to prepare you for a job within journalism. ÖSTERSUND Population: Approximately Number of students: About Particular strength: The closeness to the mountains and Sweden s foremost alpine centre Åre. Example of education programmes: Intra-cultural and International Social Studies programme 140 credit points. The programme focuses on giving a deeper understanding of intra-cultural and international social work. Two supervised trainee periods of 15 and 20 weeks respectively are included. The first period will be located in the Nordic countries and the other period, somewhere else in the world. Sports technology - Innovative product development directed towards sports and experiences 120 credit points A programme for those interested in the design, development and evaluation of sports equipment and tools. The programme gives the knowledge needed to carry out qualified product and process development within areas where man and technology interact, with a special focus on winter sports. TRONDHEIM Population: Approximately Number of students: About Particular strength: Having been chosen as the Top University City in Norway with the most interesting study environment. Example of education programmes: NTNU has selected marine and maritime technology as one of its six strategic areas. The Department of Marine Technology at NTNU is internationally oriented and offers one of the world s leading educations in marine technology at Master s and PhD level. Bioengineer 3-year Bachelor programme at HiST, 180 credit points + 2 years Master As a bioengineer, you will be both a healthcare worker and a technologist. You will learn to handle highly advanced equipment and learn about analysis methods within medicinal diagnostics. Teaching is carried out in modern teaching laboratories in an active medical research environment at Laboratoriesenteret, Universitetsklinikken St. Olavs Hospital.

They all have international airports; Trondheim Airport Værnes with daily connections to and from various major cities such as Copenhagen, London and Amsterdam. The flight time from Sundsvall and Östersund to Stockholm is a mere 50 minutes and from there you can reach the rest of the world. Travelling by train between the three towns is even easier. Mittlinjen services the Sundsvall - Östersund route and for travel between Östersund and Trondheim you can use Nabotåget. Both Mittlinjen and Nabotåge s every day.
