2 Milton Keynes 40 th Anniversary, 2007 HM The Queen tour of CMK & Stadium MK 1 st Our Place MK exhibition in Middleton Hall But, there was no city-wide co-ordinated approach
3 The Culture Programme MK Council, Councillors and staff recognise MK50 as a major milestone, enabling the city to deliver a step-change in culture alongside inspiring events and projects. The wider context for this piece of work is that it sits within the Culture Programme ambition for MK50 and Capital of Culture MK50 sits within a wider Culture Programme with an agreed budget of 300k, 100k for MK50. MK Council to secure additional partner and major funds (Arts Council, BIG Lottery, HLF, Others) for major programme development and delivery with an aspiration to secure 500k MK50 is a key element of the Arts and Heritage strategies and is seen as an opportunity to show quality and ambition
4 MK50 Budget 100k MK Council funding is committed to: 40k towards MK50 Project Management 15k towards MK50 Micro-grants 45k reserved by MK Council for seed funding MK Council developing major collaborative funding bids 50 th Birthday micro-grants to support community projects Projects will need to undertake their own fundraising

6 MK50 Planning Activity So Far Early discussions with the cultural sector showed that organisations wanted MK Council to take a lead MK50 Project Manager newly recruited by MK Council, working 2 days per week until December 2017 Cultural Leaders, Artist ideas and Sports development sessions started early 2015 Presentations with key groups Project programme in early stages with initial internal MK Council and major stakeholder discussions

8 Draft MK50 Framework We intend to create a year-long 3 strand programme of Civic, Community and Cultural activity: Valuing the Past: On 23rd January, which is the day Milton Keynes was designated as a New Town, we are planning a formal ceremony to mark this historic occasion and an official launch to the celebratory year. Celebrating the Present: Starting on 23rd June there will be a fifty day festival of major events and community celebrations. Looking to the Future: From 23rd October there will be time to reflect on the year and gather resources to look forwards. This framework creates a structure for the year that we will create a programme around, and we hope that others will do the same to create a year full of exciting activities We will be working with a range of delivery partners to develop projects that will inspire and engage the public Our aim will be: to celebrate locally, and share with the world that Milton Keynes is an amazing place to live, work and visit.

17 Community engagement and involvement We hope to establish a micro-grant scheme for community groups to help them deliver their MK50 events/activities We are working with partners and colleagues across the council to embed MK50 ambitions in a range of areas such as transport and regeneration projects We will centrally promote MK50 activities through an online calendar We can help with idea development, and offer advice on permissions We can also help identify funding routes To avoid duplication and conflict we will provide project brokerage and development, including network sessions for the themes We hope to offer micro-grants to enable community celebrations too.
