Aims of NMC II Integrate the NMC as a Motorways of the Sea in the TEN-T network Move cargo from road to sea, i.e. pursue NMC initiatives and new initiatives
Work Packages Work Package A: Motorway oif the Northern Seas Work Package B: Work Package C: Work Package D: Work Package E: Work Package F: NMC as a MoS within the TEN-T Network Market Communication and New SSS Services Technological Development and ICT Tools Polycentric Port Scenarios and Framework Conditions Petroleum Sector Transport
NMC in a global and European context
NMC in a global and European context Northern Maritime Corridor has to be seen as part of a European and global transportation network. The key EU concern in cargo transportation is to shift cargo from road to intermodal transportation where sea transportation is playing a key role on longer distances. Once cargo has been placed on a long distance truck, it is very unlikely to shift to sea or rail underway. Therefore, in order for EU to succeed with the policy of environmentally friendly cargo transportation, it is essential that also neighbouring countries are linked to the motorways of the sea system. Hence, pursuing the Northern Maritime Corridor within the concept of Motorways of the Sea is instrumental for EU countries as well as neighbouring countries.
Expected Achievements in the NMC II Northern Maritime Corridor acknowledged as a Motorway of the Sea all the way to the barents Sea Substantial input to the Task Force for the master Plan for the Motorway of the Sea in the North Sea/Northern Seas Strategy plan for promotion of short sea shipping services in the NMC area New and improved short sea shipping initiatives in the NMC area
Expected Achievements in the NMC II, cont. Concept of ICT in Motorways of the Sea context Concepts of polycentric port structure Concepts of transport system relevant for the petroleum sector in the and Barents Sea Expanded network between Russia and NMC countries, both private and public sector
Project Idea Interreg IVb: MoS Strategic Demonstration Project Main activities: Assess potential MoS initiatives, including links to neighbouring programme areas and North West Russia Support MoS initiatives through arena for networking, additional/specific market analyses, guidance on MoS application etc.
