5 We decided to give allocations to researchers in winning projects based on the following criteria:. Only one post of,6 3,3 week salary compensation will be allocated for each project. 2. In projects where more than one Norwegian researcher is included, the salary compensation will be shared equally among the members. The allocation will be based on the researcher with highest salary not exceeding ltr Contributing researchers will not be allocated salary compensation. 4. Level of salary compensation may be adjusted to match with the amount of funds available for this activity in the EPINAVProgramme. 5. Researchers are encouraged to participate in more than one project. However we have no room for increasing the support beyond the,6 3,3 weeks plus one travel for 9 days. Based on the above criteria, the allocation of funds for each participating scientist is presented in Table 2. Table 2. 7 There are a total of 2 Norwegianbased researchers participating in all projects, except no. 2. Three of the researchers (Løken, Mo, Sundstøl) are in the group of contributing scientists. At UMB, Noragric is included with six scientists. Other departments at UMB (IHA, IPM, INA and IMT) are all represented with one researcher each. At, four researchers are included while Nofima Marine and Nofima Mat participate with two and one researcher, respectively. Unfortunately, no researchers from Bioforsk are included in the winning projects. The gender balance, 2 males and 8 females, is better than in any of the previous programmes. In line with the practice of the PANTIL programme, the projects will also be given incentive funds for taking on board students and for papers published. These grants will be added to funds for covering running costs in Tanzania and will therefore be administered by the project leader and the project team. The work place of each researcher selected will be compensated with,6 3,3 weeks salary annually for the project work and cost of travel for 9 days in Tanzania based on standard rates. A contract between Noragric and each institution will be established covering this matter. Researchers involved in more than one project will receive no extra funding. Under the theme Basic Research no applications were submitted. Therefore a new call for proposals will be announced for one project under this theme and another with a focus on Conservation Agriculture. In the latter project it will be emphasized that the winning team should have close links to an ongoing project in this field both in Tanzania and in neig boring countries. Funds for two positions will be set aside for this. A call for Strategic Interventions will also be announced in which collaboration from the Norwegian side may be beneficial. Funds to facilitate two positions will be set aside in addition to a contingency for researchers to travel on a need basis. On behalf of EPINAV, I thank all researchers who have participated in the development of the proposals. UMBÅs, 3..2 Lars Olav Eik, Norwegian Institutional EPINAVCoordinator 7
