10 Introduction Functional Safety and ATEX applications General The variable speed drive Altivar integrates the STO (Safe Tque Off) safety function which prohibits unintended equipment operation. The mot no longer produces tque. The use of the STO safety function allows the drive to be installed as a part of the safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems, dedicated to the safety of a machine an industrial process. This safety function complies with the standard f safety of machinery EN 9-1 (199): Categy to. It complies also with the standard f functional safety IEC/EN 108 and with the power drive systems' product standard IEC/EN , SIL capability. It complies also with the standards f functional safety EN ISO (008): Categy PLd, IEC 108 (00) (parts 1&): SIL 1 to SIL, IEC 01 (00): SIL CL, pren 09E (008). The use of the STO safety function is required f the Altivar variable speed drive to control and command mots installed in explosive atmospheres (ATEX). The STO safety function is an ATEX certified function accding ATEX 9/9/EC directive Protection of the ATEX mot The STO input is connected to the switching system which is embedded in the thermal detect of the ATEX mot ( connected to the switching system of the control system if ATEX senss of PTC type are used).. DANGER RISK OF EXPLOSION The LI input on the Altivar drive, available f the mot thermal protection by using PTC detect (switch SW moved to the PTC position), shall not be used f the mot thermal protection in an ATEX application. Only the STO input of the drive must be used f ATEX applications. Failure to follow these instructions will result in death serious injury. 10 S1A0 0/010

12 Applications f explosive atmosphere Applications f explosive atmosphere (ATEX) What's in this Chapter? This chapter contains the following topics: Topic Page Classification of ATEX zones 1 Identification of the ATEX marking 1 1 S1A0 0/010

13 Applications f explosive atmosphere Classification of ATEX zones The European directive 1999/9/EC (also called ATEX 17, directive f protection of wkers) classifies the ATEX zones and the type of products that they are compatible with. The user should define the ATEX zone in which the ATEX mot will be installed. The variable speed drive Altivar must always be installed in a safe area, outside the hazardous ATEX zone. Different schemes f installation are suggested in this document. They are compatible with the use of mots in ATEX zones,, 1 1. The table below summarises characteristics related to each ATEX zone. Atmosphere Zone Definition Gas 0 Explosive atmosphere is present continuously, f long periods frequently due Dust 0 to malfunctions Gas 1 Dust 1 Explosive atmosphere is likely to occur due to expected malfunctions Gas Explosive atmosphere is unlikely to occur, if occuring, is likely to only be of sht Dust duration and not in nmal duty Presence of explosive atmosphere per year > 1000 h h < 10 h Nota: Neither electrical equipments n mots can be installed in ATEX zone 0 0. General The European directive 9/9/EC (also called ATEX 9, product directive) defines applicable requirements f ATEX products and requirements f procedure of certification. OEMs, installers, users are responsible f the choice and the commissioning of the products they use in der to realise the ATEX protection of systems that they design systems that they implement. The mot needs to be ATEX certified and compatible f use in zone / 1/1. The mot shall be equipped with thermal detect(s) with embedded switching system ATEX certified, shall be equipped with thermal detect(s) ATEX certified, associated to a control unit, which is to be also ATEX certified. Note: Usually, the control unit is designed to be used outside the hazardous ATEX zone. Then it is possible to install the control unit near the variable speed drive, in the safe area. The switching system, embedded into the thermal detect, included into the control unit of the thermal protection of the ATEX mot, shall be connected to the STO input of the variable speed drive Altivar. When the excessive temperature of the ATEX mot is reached, the control system trips automatically the STO safety function. The electrical power of the mot is removed to help to ensure a temperature of the mot frame below the maximum temperature depending on the gas the dust atmosphere in which the ATEX mot is installed. When the ATEX application needs to apply the STO safety function, a safety module (type Preventa), is to be used. The suggested schemes describe how the switching system, embedded into the thermal detect included into the control unit, is connected to the safety module. The output of the safety module is to be connected to the STO input of the variable speed drive Altivar. Stopping categy related to the IEC/EN 00-1 The schemes f installation, suggested in this document, show the use of a safety module (type Preventa XPS- AC) in combination with an ATEX application, with the use of the safety function when the stopping categy 0, related to IEC/EN 00-1, is required. The user should take care f using a tempised safety module (type Preventa XPS-ATE), in combination with the ATEX application when the stopping categy 1, related to IEC/EN 00-1, is required, using the embedded SS1 safety function. 18 Schemes of cabling f ATEX applications Schemes Schemes suggested in this document f installation and commissioning of variable speed drive Altivar f ATEX applications include different types of thermal detects used with the ATEX mot. If the ATEX mot, installed in an hazardous zone zone, includes at least one thermal detect with an embedded switching system protected against the failures of the installation (as defined in.1. of the IEC/EN standard) then, the switching system of this thermal detect can be directly connected to the STO input of the variable speed drive. See Scheme f ATEX installation N 1 page 19 and Scheme f ATEX installation N page 0. If the ATEX mot, installed in an hazardous zone 1 1, includes at least two thermal detects with an embedded switching system (as defined in.1. of the IEC/EN standard) then, the switching system of these thermal detects can be directly connected in series to the STO input of the variable speed drive. See Scheme f ATEX installation N page and Scheme f ATEX installation N page. If the ATEX mot, installed in an hazardous zone,, includes at least one thermal detect without any embedded switching system (f example a PTC sens), then this one thermal detect shall be connected to a control unit (as defined in.1.1 of the IEC/EN standard). The control unit is a device which converts in a switching function the variation of the characteristic of a thermal detect. See Scheme f ATEX installation N page 1 and Scheme f ATEX installation N page. Note: The same requirement applies to thermal detects without any embedded switching system f mots installed in an hazardous zone 1 1. See Scheme f ATEX installation N 7 page and Scheme f ATEX installation N 8 page. ATEX periodic test The complete safety loop (which starts from the ATEX mot thermal sens up to the STO safety function embedded in the drive), shall be activated at least once a year f preventive maintenance purposes, in der to check that the electrical power is always automatically removed from the mot in case of excessive temperature. 18 S1A0 0/010
