3 The trip was extremely enjoyable and very educational due to an excellent instructor, good organization and a well-chosen list of diverse wineries with very interesting characters hosting us at each one. Evening on your own in town. MONDAY, JUNE 20 (B, L, D) CÔTE DE NUITS Visit famed négociant Bouchard Père et Fils in the beautifully restored 15th century Chateau de Beaune, followed by a tasting of their fine village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines. Join Gérard for a walk in the legendary Grand Cru vineyards of Vosne Romanée (Romanée Conti, La Tache, etc.). After a gourmet lunch, visit two of the top estates of the Côte de Nuits, like Clos du Tart, Domaine de l Arlot in Nuits Saint Georges or Chateau de la Tour in Vougeot, with extensive tastings. Welcome dinner at a Côte d Or institution, Ma Cuisine. TUESDAY, JUNE 21 (B, L) CHABLIS Walk in the Grand Cru vineyards with a representative of Domaine William Fèvre to see the Kimmeridgian terroir, then taste through their large range of wines. After lunch at the Bistrot des Grands Crus, visit another great producer like Domaine Dauvissat or Domaine Droin. Discuss Chablis vinification techniques at one of the best cooperatives in France, La Chablisienne, followed by a tasting of their highly-rated wines. Return to Beaune for an evening on your own with our restaurant suggestions. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22 (B, L) CÔTE DE BEAUNE Visit two great estates, like Domaine Jean-Noël Gagnard in Chassagne-Montrachet or Domaine François Carillon in Puligny-Montrachet. Enjoy a gastronomic lunch at Michelin 1-star Le Montrachet restaurant in Puligny. Join Gérard for a walk through the vineyards of Grand Cru Le Montrachet. Visit a top estate in Volnay or Pommard, like Domaine Michel Lafarge or Domaine Marquis d Angerville. The evening is yours to explore Beaune and dine on your own. 2

4 THURSDAY, JUNE 23 (B,L, D) MÂCONNAIS & CÔTE CHALONNAISE In Pouilly-Fuissé, the biggest communal appellation in Bourgogne, visit and taste at a top producer like Maison Verget or Chateau de Fuissé. We were fortunate to have Andrew Jefford as our instructor [...] Andrew is extremely knowledgeable, and insightful and intelligent. The background information and commentary that he provided were wonderful. Andrew is a true gentleman and a scholar. This afternoon, visit two great producers in the Côtes Chalonnaise, like Domaine Michel Juillot or Domaine Vincent Lumpp. Your farewell dinner is at the lovely Michelin 1-star restaurant Jardin des Remparts in Beaune. FRIDAY, JUNE 24 (B, L) CÔTE DE NUITS Back to the Côte de Nuits today, starting with a visit and tasting at an elite domaine like Clos des Lambrays or Domaine Bertagna. 5 GERARD BASSET, MS, MW, MBA YOUR TRIP INSTRUCTOR & GUIDE Gerard was born and raised in France. After education first as a chef and then as a sommelier, he moved to England for good in the mid 1980s. He then embarked on a very successful career as a sommelier. His sommelier achievements range from winning, on several occasions, the Best Sommelier in the UK title, as well as Best International Sommelier for French Wines in 1992 and Best Sommelier of Europe in He also finished three times second in the Best Sommelier of the World (1992, 2004 and equal second in 2007) and in April 2010, in Santiago, Chile, reached his long-held dream of becoming the Best Sommelier in The World, 2010 (The World Sommelier Championship takes place every three years). In 2013, Decanter Magazine presented Gerard with the prestigious Decanter Man of the Year 2013 Award and Harpers Wine and Spirits Magazine named him Best Ambassador/Communicator for French Wines. In addition, Gerard is currently the only person in the world to be simultaneously Master Sommelier, Master of Wine and Wine MBA. He is also President, Europe, of the Court of Master Sommeliers, Technical Director of the ASI (Association Sommelier International) and Honorary President of the WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust). An important aspect of Gerard s career is his skill for discovering young talents, mentoring them and inspiring them. The number of sommeliers and barmen who have trained with him are numerous and they have achieved great heights themselves, a fact that Gerard is extremely proud of. 7 ABOUT THE BOURGOGNE MASTER-LEVEL PROGRAM Included in your trip is access to the Wine Scholar Guild s Bourgogne Master-Level Program, a comprehensive study and certificate program on the wines of the Burgundy. The Bourgogne Master-Level Program is designed for the wine trade and is endorsed by the Burgundy Wine Bureau BIVB. The program has been created jointly by the Wine Scholar Guild and lead instructor Don Kinnan, CWE. It is, in scope and design, the most comprehensive wine study program on Burgundy bar none. Through this program, students will acquire a profound knowledge of the region and develop a greater sensory understanding of its wines. The final exam validates mastery of the course content. This exam can be taken online. The program is offered in an online and on-demand format, allowing you to study Bourgogne in-depth and prepare for your trip from the comfort of your own office or home.
