2 KVITÅVATN FJELLSTOGE The Fjellstoge is situated in an area of dramatic natural beauty, only a few hours drive from Oslo. Throughout the year there are many possibilities for leisure activities, both organised and informal. The landscape is dominated by the magnificent mountain of Gausta at 1883m, whilst the nearby town of Rjukan has significant cultural and historic interest, especially as the location for the real Heroes of Telemark operations during World War II.

3 Summer in the mountains During the summer long days and light nights give plenty of time to enjoy many different activities including: Mountain walking, canoeing on the lake, swimming, fishing for mountain trout and mountain biking on the Hardangervidda. Beautiful all summer, the scenery is possibly most impressive in August and September as autumn approaches, with vibrant colours reaching their best at the end of September.

4 Downhill skiing, Snowboarding and Telemark Click your boots on at the doorstep: the Fjellstoge is right next to one of Telemark region s best alpine ski areas. Gausta Skicentre has 7 lifts and 20 prepared runs graded from green to black and a nursery slope for beginners and children. The pistes make the most of the beautiful scenery, with a highest point of 1150 meters they give impressive views over the valley, the mountain of Gausta and the Hardangervidda.

5 Nordic skiing The area is renowned for Nordic skiing, with a network of prepared tracks right next to Kvitåvatn Fjellstoge. The tracks run around the lake, through forests and up into the open hills, with a lit circuit for evening skiing. There are choices for all abilities and levels of fitness, as well as the weather of the day. The Red tracks are well known among dedicated nordic skiers as being demanding and varied, with impressive views.

6 Touring in the mountains Kvitåvatn Fjellstoge is ideally situated for off track touring, lying just below the tree line and with good routes into the mountains. The prepared tracks can be used to start tours: the Blue 23km track and is itself an ideal introduction to further ventures out in the mountains. It climbs to 1150m in dramatic open country and the trip can include a visit to the village of Tuddal. Many of the mountain tops can be reached on skis. Day trips include Ørnenipa, Heddersfjell and other peaks, whilst the ultimate challenge is a climb to the top of Gausta.

7 Acommodation. Kvitåvatn Fjellstoge provides a friendly, cosy and relaxed atmosphere. The range of accommodation is flexible to correspond to wishes and budget. Choose from spacious rooms with views and en-suite facilities, family or single rooms and traditional timber huts with charm and personality. During the winter we offer a range of tariffs from full board to self catering, and in summer bed-and-breakfast. Two well equipped kitchens are available for self-caterers

8 Rjukan Youth Hostel. Kvitåvatn Fjellstoge is connected to Hostelling International and opens as a hostel during the summer. We offer many options, from accommodation for the single visitor to rental of the Fjellstoge for groups of different sizes (subject to availability). Group rental can be self-catering or full board.
