2 HERION S HIGH PERFORMANCE POPPET VALVES For those applications requiring high Cv, fast response times, large exhaust capacity, and a valve that is dirt tolerant - poppet valves offer an excellent solution. HERION offers a complete series of Inline Poppet s - 3/2 (3 way, 2 position) solenoid and air-actuated in port sizes from /2 to 2 NPT. Standard models include solenoid actuated valves with internal air pilot, and solenoid actuated valves with external air pilot supply, and valves with air actuation. Note: Also available in a 4/2 (4 way, 2 position) version. See Brochure N-223A. STANDARD SOLENOID NUMBER 080 Specifications: The connector conforms to ISO 40 and the combination solenoid / connector meets the classification NEMA 4. All HERION solenoids are rated for 0% duty cycle complying to insulation class 5ºF (Class F). Features: The solenoids are attached to the valve with a solenoid retaining nut. The coil of the solenoid is a pressure molded encapsulation. The electrical connection is made through three prongs (2 power, ground) which attach to the mating connector with one screw. 4 INTERNAL AIR VERSUS EXTERNAL AIR PILOT The pilot valve requires an air supply, in turn the pilot valve delivers the air to operate the main valve. This pilot air is normally taken from the inlet supply pressure at port number one. There are times when it may be necessary or desirable to use an external source for the pilot air. SOME REASONS FOR USING AN EXTERNAL PILOT SUPPLY. s on vacuum service - the pilot air must be a positive pressure. 2. Inlet pressure drops below the minimum psig required for internal pilot supply. 3. The air supply to the valve may contain particles of a size that could safely pass through the main valve but might block the smaller passages in the pilot valve. CHANGING FROM INTERNAL TO EXTERNAL PILOT AIR (field conversion). For ½ to valves the 4 screws holding the pilot valve assembly are removed. The pilot valve is rotated 80º and reinstalled. Refer to Fig For ¼ to 2 valves the pilot valve assembly is removed, but it is not rotated. Install a threaded screw (M8 x 6mm long) in the tapped hole and seal it with a thread sealant. See part # 2 in Fig.#. The plug shown as part # 7 in figures 3. # 2, # 3, # 5 and # 6 must be removed. The plug hole is tapped with G ¼ pipe threads. It requires an adapter when converted to ¼ NPT threads to connect the external air supply. This screw and adapter are available from HERION. When the valve is ordered by the external pilot part number the adapter and screw will have been assembled.
