1 PM Norsk O-Festival June 21-23, 2013 MEETING PLACE FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY Sørlandets Travpark. Follow the signs from E18, exit 88 Travparken/Sørlandsparken. PARKING Max 500 meters from the parking lot to the Arena every day. Parking attendants will direct you. 50 NOK parking fee daily. TERRAIN/MAP Friday, June 21 - Sprint Map Kristiansand Zoo. 1:4 000, 2 m contours, sprint map. New Course setters: Elisabeth Ingvaldsen and Jostein Andersen. Controller: Jan Arild Johnsen, NOF The terrain is an amusement park. Paved paths and roads, grassy parks and some open forest areas are easily run, while some wooded hillsides are more difficult. There are numerous out-of-bound areas, including many enclosures for zoo animals. The amusement park has areas of clustered small buildings with passageways and alleys, and details like a carrousel and playground equipment. Terrain: Hard surface: 75 90% Grass: 5-10 % Woods: 5 15 % Animal enclosures and flower beds are out-of-bound areas. Many of the flower beds are marked with tape. Please respect these areas and study the map carefully when planning your route. Studded shoes are not allowed within the Kristiansand Zoo. It is possible to run through certain buildings. This is shown on the map by the building pass through symbol and also marked with the purple sign crossing point. There are many benches in the park. As is common practice, moveable benches are not marked on the map. Symbol O X Description Climbing course where the obstacles are connected. Impassable fence indicates that the course is at ground level and cannot be passed Playground equipment Other permanent feature, for example a sign, cart, cannon, dinosaur etc. Olive green indicates flower beds that are out-of-bounds and animal enclosures Please be considerate of other guests visiting the Zoo. The area marked with the red arrow on the map is passable on the map. However, it is now planted and out-of-bounds. This is marked on the ground, but not on the map. The ground varies from easily run to more difficult with some undergrowth. Low-visibility mixed forest and open woodland. There is a lot of water in the forest! Marshes may be full of water and there may be strong currents in some streams. TERRAIN/MAP Sunday, June 23 Long distance Map Kvaase (Høvdingen IL). 1:10 000/1: m contours. Revised 2012 and NOF has given permission for use of 1: maps for Norgescup classes, long distance because of the amount of detail. 1:7500 for certain classes (see course lengths). There is a lot of water in the forest! Marshes may be full of water and there may be strong currents in some streams. The courses on Saturday and Sunday go through or near Røymyråsen nature reserve. Please do not pick or remove plants and flowers, including dead bushes and trees. Please alert the Event Office if you see any wildlife. Please do not litter. For classes with a chasing start, splitting methods (gaffling) will be used. The D E map is not printed off-set for Sundays race. INFORMATION/EVENT OFFICE The Event Office is located at the main entrance to the Kristiansand Dyrepark (Zoo) and opens Friday, June 21 at 3 pm. Participant packets will be distributed on Friday. Maps of all beginner courses, D/H-10, D/H11-12 and D/H13-16C for all days will also be available. The participant packets contain start number bibs, information, rental EMIT card (if applicable) and maps for beginners and runners up to age 12. Participant packets MUST be picked up before entering the zoo. Maps for beginners and runners up to age 12 will also be available in the Event Office on Saturday and Sunday. All participating clubs must provide the name and telephone number of the club contact person at the Event Office in case of emergencies. Information/Event Office is open Friday, June 21 from 3 pm to 8 pm, Saturday, June 22 from 9 am to 4 pm, and Sunday, June 23 from 8:30 am to 3 pm. ADMISSION TO THE ZOO FRIDAY, JUNE 21 Admission to the zoo is free for participants with their start bibs after 3 pm. Those accompanying participants can get an admission pass at the Event Office. Tickets must be purchased for entrance to the zoo before 3 pm. Participants in Norgescup classes are not permitted in the zoo until after finishing their race. CLASSES and COURSE LENGTHS See list of course lengths at the information board at the Arena and on the O-festival website. CONTROL DESCRIPTIONS Control descriptions are printed on maps. There are also separate control descriptions for all classes except beginner classes and N-open. There are no separate control descriptions for the chasing start classes on Sunday.
3 Controls placed at a cliff or rock face are placed under the cliff or rock face unless otherwise noted. The control description will only show the symbol for cliff or rock face. Special symbol for Friday: - area with a hard surface. WATER STATIONS A water station is available 300m from the start Saturday. No water at the start Friday or Sunday. There will be a water/sports drink station in the forest during Sunday s long distance race. These are marked on the map and course description. In the event of high temperatures on race day additional water stations will placed in the forest, and will be announced at the Arena. Juice and water will be available at the finish every day. FAIR PLAY Runners may keep their maps after they finish. Please show good sportsmanship and follow the rules by not showing the maps to runners who start later. Breaking the rules may result in disqualification. Cultivated fields (yellow with black dots on the map), including running along the edge, and private property are out-of-bounds. Other out-ofbounds areas are marked on the map. START Follow the orange and white tape to start: Friday, June 21: 250 meters. Saturday, June: 1100 meters. Sunday, June 23: 400 meters. There are no toilets at the start Friday or Sunday. Toilets are available on the way to start on Saturday. Water station 300m before start on Saturday. No water station at start on Friday or Sunday. EMBARGOED AREAS FOR NORGESCUP CLASSES Special rules apply to runners in the Norgescup classes (elite classes) about being present at the Arena before the races. Runners in the Norgescup classes are not allowed in the Zoo before they start on Friday, June 21. Participant packets with start numbers and info must be picked up at the Event Office, and emit-tag and GPS (if applicable) must be picked up at start. Start is about 100 meters from the Event Office. Runners have the opportunity to wait in the outdoor pool area at the Quality Hotell & Resort Dyreparken 700 meters from the Arena. You can use the swimming pool, toilets, locker rooms and a conference room. (Please remove your o- shoes before going inside). Refreshments can be purchased at the hotel. Clothing and bags can be stored near the Event Office. Please remember to pick up your belongings after the race. Saturday, June 22 and Sunday, June 23: runners in the Norgescup classes who have not started must leave the Arena by 12:00 pm Saturday and 10:30 am Sunday, as the map and courses will be shown on the big screen. Runners may use the same area at the Quality Hotell Dyreparken on Saturday and Sunday. Bags and clothing to be placed in designated area. A flyer at the hotel shows where. Runners may also wait by their cars in the parking lot.
4 START NUMBERS/BIBS All classes must run with their start number bibs on Friday. They are in the participant packets. Elite classes, D/H 15 and D/H 16 pick up their bibs at the start on Saturday and Sunday. The remaining classes run without start numbers on Saturday and Sunday. START TIMES First regular start: Friday, June 21 6 pm. Saturday, June am. Sunday, June am. For big classes earlier starts may be necessary. The last start on Friday is 8 pm. First start N-open, D/H-10, D/H11-12 and D/H11-12N: Friday 5:30 pm. Saturday 10:30 am. Sunday 9:30 am. All N-, C-, B- and AK- classes have open start times. Officials at the start are in charged of this. Each runner is responsible for this. Notify the Event Office if there is a discrepancy. Any changes in start times MUST be approved by the Event Office at the Arena before start. Back-up tags are available at the start. Runners must note day and card number themselves. 3 min before start: Names are called, card number check. 2 min before start: Select correct post descriptions. 1 min before start: Proceed to the map box for your class 5 seconds before start: Place your card on the start control and run when the signal stops. Please make sure that you have the correct map for your course. Each runner is responsible for this! Follow the marked route from the timed start to the start post, meters. GPS (to be collected by the runner 30 minutes before start in the same tent as the EmiTag) Friday: D17-18E, H17-18E and the 10 last starting runners in D21E and H21E Saturday: D19-20E, H19-20E and the 10 last starting runners in D21E and H21E Sunday: The 8 best in all Junior classes and D21E, and the 10 best in H21E
5 Start procedure Friday and Saturday for Norgescup classes and D/H 15 and 16: 3 min before start: Names are called, EmiTags and card numbers are checked. 2 min before start: Select correct post descriptions, clearing of cards 1 min before start: The runner moves to the starting line Time start when signal is heard. The event official will control that the start is done in a correct way. The map should be picked up when starting. Norgescup classes plus D/H 15 and 16 have chasing start based on the results of the first two days. Runner who are more than 30 minutes behind or who do not have approved runs on Friday and Saturday start at minute start 30 minutes after the first start in the class. Runners are responsible for taking the correct map and control description list. For classes with a chasing start, splitting methods (gaffling) will be used. Start procedure Sunday for Norgescup classes and D/H 15 and 16: EmiTags will be distributed at the start for chasing start classes. You will use the same EmiTag all three days. Only runners who did not run on Friday will be given EmitTags on the way to start on Saturday/Sunday. Please remember to turn in your EmiTag on Sunday. Make sure you allow plenty of time at the start. The clock shows the time that the names are called. 5 min before start: Names are called. Runners are sorted into starting order, EmiTags and card numbers are checked. 2 min before start: Clearing of cards. The map is given to the runner just before the start. Runners in the chasing start classes have new start numbers on Sunday. Runners are responsible for collecting these at the start; safety pins will be available. FINISH There are two final controls and two finish gates each day. Friday, June 21; elite classes run to the right, other classes to the left. Saturday 22. June and Sunday 23. June; elite classes run to the left, other classes to the right. The runner is finished when they punch the finish control at the finish line. For Norgescup classes and D/H 15, 16 the finish time is registered when the runner crosses the finish line with the emitag. There is no finish control. Runners continue on to the goal tent where their cards are read. Directions will be given. If the punching is not approved the runner will be directed to the red zone. Back-up tags will be collected. Runners who do not finish their race must register at the finish, or they or their club representative must go to the Event Office to have their card read. Club representatives must ensure that all their runners are registered at the finish. Runners who disagree with a disqualification should go to the Event Office as soon as possible. If the situation is not resolved at the Event Office a formal protest can be made to the competition jury on the same day as the race. Deadlines to lodge a protest are: 8:30 pm Friday, June 21, 2:30 pm Saturday, June 22 and 1:30 pm Sunday, June 23. Print-outs of split times will be available to each runner. RESULTS Results will be continuously updated at the bulletin board at the Arena. Complete results will be available at Results will be posted at the Arena the following day.
6 EKT/LEIEBRIKKER The EMIT electronic time taking system (ETK) will be used for all races. Back-up tags will be available at the start and runners must note the card number and day. Rental cards will be placed in the participant pack. The rental cards must be returned at the finish or the Event Office after the last race. There will be a 600 NOK fee for each unreturned EMIT card. Chasing start classes may not use display cards. LATE ENTRIES Late entries are allowed at an additional fee in regular classes until 6 pm the day before if space is available in the class. Send late entries to kok@kok.no (include name, class, club, course and card number) or directly to the Event Office at the Arena by 6 pm the day before. Late entries by are only valid if you receive a confirmation. N-open classes may register on the day of the race. Other runners may register in the open classes on race day. Same day registration is possible in classes up to 12 years if there is space available in the class. OPEN CLASSES There are five open classes. Same day registration at the Event Office. Open start Friday, June 21 between 6 pm and 7:45 pm, Saturday, June 22 between 11 am and 1:45 pm and Sunday, June 23 from 10 am and 12:45 pm. Special times for N open. LITTLE TROLL/CHILDREN S O-FESTIVAL Friday during the O-festival there will be a Little Troll course starting from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. The cost is 30 NOK, due at registration. On Saturday and Sunday a separate area has been set aside for the Children s O- Festival. Activities include a treasure hunt, EKT-sprint, o-ring game, o-twister and a little troll course. The cost for one or more activities is 50 NOK per day. No advance registration necessary and everyone wins a prize! Hours are Saturday am to 1.00 pm, and Sunday 9.30 am to pm. EXTRA TEAM COURSE FOR YOUTH An extra team course for kids ages up to 12 will be held Saturday at 1.30 pm from the arena. Teams are made up of 3-5 runners. Each team will find the control points and solve puzzles within a 30 minute time limit. Teams can be made up of members from different clubs. This event is also open to runners who have competed in the individual competitions earlier in the day. Online registration deadline is June 17. Register in person by Friday, June 20. See separate flyer. CHILD CARE Child care is available every day from one hour before the first start until two hours after the last start. The children must be at least one year old. This service is provided so that parents can race. Please pick up your child as soon as you finish your race. There is no charge for child care. CLUB TENTS There is no opportunity to set up club tents at the Zoo on Friday. Dress appropriately for the weather and use the facilities available at the Zoo. There is space at the Arena on Saturday and Sunday for club tents. However, the ground is very hard so bring boards and sandbags. TOILETS AND SHOWERS Many toilets near the Arena on Friday. Indoor and outdoor toilets at the Travpark on Saturday and Sunday. There are toilets on the way to start on Saturday only. Showers available Friday at the water park at the Zoo. O-shoes and dirty running clothes must be removed before entering. The last entrance to the Water Park is 9 pm and the showers
7 close at 9:30 pm. Showers available in Sørlandshallen near the arena on Saturday and Sunday. No studded shoes allowed in the toilets and shower changing rooms. FIRST AID The first aid station will be located at the arena each day. Call (emergency room) in a medical emergency. PRIZES Classes up 12 years and N-open: A prize to every runner each day. Classes 13 and 14 years, and D/H13-16C/N: A prize to 1/3 of the starters every day. 15 and 16 years with chasing start: Prizes will be awarded to the six best Friday and Saturday, and to 1/3 of the best runners in the multi-race competition. Classes years with chasing start: prizes will be awarded to the six best runners Friday and Saturday and to 1/10 of the best runners in the multi-race competition. For other competition classes over 17 years: one - three prizes each day (depending on the number of participants). Prizes will be awarded daily at the Arena when the results are final. A list of approximate times for prize-giving per class will be posted and announced. Unclaimed prizes can be picked up at the Event Office the following day. Unclaimed prizes will not be sent by mail. The Norwegian Orienteering Association development stipend of NOK is awarded to the best Norwegian runner after the chasing start in classes D 17-18, D 19-20, H and H The stipend must be used in conjunction with NOF meets by the end of REFRESHMENTS SALES A variety of refreshments will be available for purchase. Trimtex and Sport 8 will be selling merchandise daily at the Arena.
